"The Office" is back! I loved seeing all the old familiars, though I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't like "The Office" as an hour-long show. Everything even wrapped up all nice and neat at the half-hour mark during this week's season premiere, so it easily could have just stopped there.
Still, some unnecessary scenes aside, I love this show and am thrilled to see it back on TV! There were some big things in this week's episode (you probably know what I'm talking about!), so let's discuss (spoilers ahead) if you read more
Here are some parts of the episode I just have to highlight:
- Oh my gosh Pam and Jim! That moment they shared in the car made me gasp. I'm not sure how I feel about how they accelerated their relationship so quickly (last we knew they were just going to dinner and now it's a lot more than that), but I have to say, they are so darn cute together.
- Michael hitting Meredith with his car was horribl…y funny.
- Dwight: “It’s only Meredtih.”
Michael: “Yeah, it’s only Meredith. Thank God.” - Pam: “Can’t your other cats keep her company?”
Angela: “There’s bad blood! Jealousies. Cliques.” - Michael: “Yes, it was on company property, with company property. So, Double Jeopardy. We’re fine.”
Ryan: “I don’t think you understand how 'Jeopardy' works.”
Michael: “Oh, right. ‘What is, we’re fine.'" - Michael: “Guess what, I have flaws. What are they? Oh, I don’t know. I sing in the shower. Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I’ll hit somebody with my car. So sue me. No, don’t sue me. That is the opposite of the point that I am trying to make.”
- Dwight, trying to comfort Angela about the death of Sprinkles: “She’s in a better place. Actually, the place that she is in is the freezer. Because of the odor.”
- Michael: "I need to get rid of the curse that hit Meredith with my car. I’m not superstitious. But I’m a little stitious."
- Kevin: "I thought they’d be good together. Like… PB and J. Pam… Beasly and… Jim. What a waste. What. A. Waste."
- Can I just remark on how gorgeous Pam's hair looks?
- Michael turns over a large picture of Meredith’s face, asking people to take a look into the face of rabies. “That should scare you.”
- I have a problem with the part when the camera crew show Pam and Jim the video of them kissing in the car. Why would they do that? The crew — or anyone behind the camera, really — has never been involved like that. It seemed so weird and unnecessary. I know it was just to make them say out loud to the camera that they're dating, but it seemed like a major stretch.
- Pam: "Also, there is no such thing as a rabies doctor.”
- Michael: “I’m fast. I’m very fast! I’m like Forrest Gump. Except I’m not an idiot.”
- They are so clearly in California and not Pennsylvania when they're running the Fun Run. Just saying.
- Dwight offers to have Sprinkles stuffed. “Or we can have her buried out at the East Field, by mother!”
- Andy's bleeding nipples made me feel queasy.
- Michael: “You don’t know me. You’ve just seen my penis."

I thought it was great!! And I agree Buzz, they should keep it to a half hour.
I screamed when I saw P&J kiss in the car!!! While I am happy I wish they would have kept us guessing for a few episodes. And yeah, it was really weird that the camera crew followed them there.
The whole Dwight putting Sprinkles into the freezer was hilarious!!
I laughed so hard when
she said her frozen french fries were torn to shreds, poor kitty!!
The part that made ME quesy was at the end when Michael puked up the Alfredo, yuck!!! Other than that, the whole episode was great! So happy The Office is back!
1Michael: “Yes, it was on company property, with company property. So, Double Jeopardy. We’re fine.”
Ryan: “I don’t think you understand how 'Jeopardy' works.”
Michael: “Oh, right. ‘What is, we’re fine.'"
THAT cracked me up too!!!
2oh, i kind of liked the tape thing to make jim and pam confess. the way that i read it was that the documentary people were just as invested in this as we - the audience - were. i think i'd do that, too, to be honest.
the covert hand-holding as they were walking was just a little bit amazing.
michael scott will never cease to amaze me.
i love the dwight/angela stuff. always have. always will.
i *heart* dunder mifflin.
but i agree, i *heart* it stronger when it's in 22 minute increments.
3Super funny, but i am with you on the hour thing. Was a little too long but still not complaining.
4I said this on another thread, but I was a weensy bit disappointed. I didn't guffaw nearly as much in this double eppy as I usually would in any single episode.
It was still funny, though. All the parts you highlighted were awesome. I also loved how Creed, Stanley, and Oscar hopped in a cab and went to have cocktails.
The camera crew has sort of been involved before. When Pam suspected that Dwight and Angela were doing it, she asked the cameraman to let her know if he saw anything. Then, Angela bought two candy bars and then the cameraman showed Pam how Dwight was eating one of them.
I was surprised to see that Karen was gone. I thought she'd stick around as a foil for PB&J.
5I wanted to see this but I dont have TiVo. Buzz is the episode available online?
6Oh. And Ryan all scruffy? Kinda hot.
7Hey tatti, last night's episode is on NBC's site. If you click here it should take you to their video page.
8LOVED IT!
Loved the "it's only meredith" comment, loved the jeopardy comment, loved Jan and her ridiculously low self esteem and giant boobies, LOVED how RIGHT Pam and Jim are together! Writers-please no crazy JAM drama...just leave them together and happy and hiding it from everyone!
Also more Andy! All in all JAM and Dwight were the highlights of last night's show.
9Sweet!! Thanks Buzz!! So nice!
10Yesterday's episode was the sweetest episode for me in terms of PBandJ! Loved it so much and how cute were Pam and Jim together in an actual relationship, holding hands!!! I think I just died of cuteness:)
11It was a great episode, so much happened! Can't wait to see what happens with the office romances! My favorite show is back... hooray!
12I love how Dwight calls Angela "monkey" ... how cute!
13I keep wondering what people think is gonna happen with Dwight and Angela. I really don't think she's going to forgive him, and i think andy is gonna try to come in on the rebound...
14My favorite line of the night was from Creed (and I will paraphrase as not sure I got it exactly right): "I've been in cults. I've been both a leader and a follower. The big difference is you make more money when you're the leader"
SO FUNNY!
15I agree with you Buzz- it wrapped up so nicely at the 30 minute mark- why did it keep going? I did love the episode, though! As long as PB&J stay together and don't be all make up/break up I'll be happy. And Kevin's investigating was hysterical! Plus I always feel so bad for Toby!
16This was a great episode. I didn't mind that it was longer than usual.
17I LOVED IT!!! I am glad they got Jim and Pam together because they were too cute!
18My husband thought the begining was so funny, he rewound it about 4 times. Meredith's face as she rolled up on Michael's hood was hysterical! That actress must have a great sense of humor because they make a lot of jokes at her expense.
19It was a fun episode but all the Dwangela just broke my heart! Why, Dwight? And then Angela cried so much, it broke my heart. WHY IS MY SHIP FIGHTING?!?!
20Last night was actually the first time I have ever seen the show and I was hooked! Great characters. Funny lines.
21I love that when Michael see Angela crying and Pam told him that Angela's cat die, he says "sprinkles?" he knew her name, and he was sad...
I was like, he knew the cat's name???
and, yes, how ridiculously funny was Meredith rolling on the car?? I want to see how they made that scene, it was a doll??? because they got me.
22I really like Toby. I just want to give him a big hug. I'm glad he won the race! And I think Kelly is hilarious too...You know it's a great show when even the minor characters make you bust out in laughter.
23Funny funny funny! But I agree a half hour would have been enough. I LOVE i'm a little sitious
24Although Jim and Pam getting together may have seemed a little fast, it was a long time coming, plus the show doesn't exactly pick up immediately from where it last left off. I think there's at least a few months in between...
I agree with the hour thing not being the best format for the Office. They're sooo good at packing a punch within the 22 minutes...stretching it out seemed forced. And while it was in no way an instant classic like Gay Witch Hunt (best. premiere. ever!), it still had enough laughs. Of course, the Jam moments helped =D.
25Can I just say THANK YOU NBC for letting me watch this show in the same week as everyone else this year!!!
I'm just veery veery excited about this.
26Two thoughts regarding some of the rules regarding the premise of the show:
It's a real-time documentary, so over the summer their lives keep happening off-camera. Jim and Pam have been dating for four months.
Also, Jim and Pam have never really admitted to liking each other to the camera crew. Part of their characters are what they don't say in those interviews with the camera crew. Some of the best comedy comes in the way the characters misrepresent themselves. But the point is, I was really sulking all summer about how Jim and Pam would act in front of the camera if the were dating, and I think trying to hide it from the camera crew that is supposedly actually in the office is exactly what they'd do. They're not gushy people. But the camera crew are theoretically documentarians, so they'd try to get the truth out of them. I laughed the hardest I've ever laughed at the show when they showed them the tape and called them out on lying to the camera.
But I very much agree about the hour thing. Should always be short.
27why do you get to write on here?i think i would do a much better job at re capping the episode.
28Love, love, love this show. The Jeopardy thing had me laughing out loud along with the "little stitious" comment. And I could not be happier with Pam and Jim. Ooh, and I agree- there has to be more Andy. It's so great to have this show back!!
29I'm from Pennsylvania and I didn't notice anything that was glaringly California about the fun run scenes. It looked pretty much like eastern PA looks.
30jah I just don't see where it says that this is a recap
I though we were... how does it says.. o yeah.. discuss it
31sorry... discussing??? Dear Lord I don't know how to write it.. sorry, not my first language
32greenleafbella: This is not a recap. I "get to write here" because I'm a part of the Sugar staff. If you'd like to write a recap of an episode of "The Office," I encourage you to do so on Team.
33i didnt see the whole pisode cuz i was watching greys! i saw the part where they were all running tho
34i second that whiplash... ryans kind of gorgeous with facial hair. he's not so 18 year old esque anymore.
35Ryan was hot with the scruffy face
BTW Buzz did an AWESOME job at pointing out the highlights of The Office. She always makes good points and remembers the funniest lines plus she is paid to do it....Im jealous. I wish I was paid to watch The Office and report on it
36I couldn't have expected it to be any better. AFter the first 30 min, I was SO HAPPY that there was going to be another 30 minutes. PB&J got me through this rough week at work. I've waited all summer for this. The writers did a great job.
"I'm just a little stitious." HAHAHA!
I vote for more 1 hour episodes. More JAM/PB&J.
Grey's doesn't interest me anymore. It makes my head hurt these days. Too much drama. Comedy for me.
37I believe in the re-runs, this episode is going to be split into two separate half-hour episodes. There are three more full hour episodes before going back to the half-hour. It's more or less a tactic from NBC because they're putting The Office at the 9pm slot against Grey's and CSI.
And the camera crew has been involved before in showing the Office people things. The other example would be in E-mail Surveillance when Pam asks them to keep on a look-out for something that would help her with figuring out if Dwight and Angela were together.
Greg Daniels pointed out previously that the camera crew would be involved a little more this season so I didn't really have too much of a problem with that.
I do believe that the conference room scene dragged a little bit, but I think that was the only downside of the entire episode. And maybe a couple of Michael's THs.
38Awww to Pam & Jim. They're so cute together!
39juju,my husband as well, repeated a few times and was still laughing about it tonight. I loved the bit where in the fun run dwight spiked Toby w/ immodium instead of ex lax and Toby said that usually by now I have to go the bathroom but not today. Haha!
40I love TOBY. I want him to triumph over Michael somehow this season.
41Also for some reason I really really want to see more Daryl. I love his character and I love that he was feeding a squirrel in this episode XD
It was a good episode but for some reason I was expecting more from the season premiere. And yes, the bleeding nipples was an unnecessary detail, but Andy is totally my favorite character now. I think that Ryan is going to cause problems for the Scranton branch, and that will make for good tv. And I really like Angela now! I am kind of hoping she will dump Dwight - maybe an Angela-Andy-Dwight love triangle?
My favorite line of the night:
42"Sprinkles is in a better place now. Actually, she's in the freezer." Dwight
I loved it! I'm so glad The Office is back, Yeay! My favorite line was when Micheal told Ryan that he ran over Meredith:
Ryan: Did you do this on purpose?
43Michael: No, I was being negligent.
no no no NO pam and jim! the show is always ruined when two people that are trying to hook up actually hook up. i'm totally bummed
44Loved the entire episode, and loved that it was an hour! yeah, Pam and Jim~ together at last! And I loved when Jan warned Pam to stay away from Michael because "he's mine" or something like that. Pam's facial expression was hysterical!
45I love The Office but they have to go back to the half hour episode!!!!! Usually I'm left wanting more! But while it was still good, I was done at the 30 minute mark. I think that kind of humor is better in smaller doses! I really am a fan!!!!!But go back to the perfect way it was please!!???
46I loved The Office!!! it has such a different feel to it this season but i love it and think that it was needed because they should keep changing things up. I loved in the first five minuts you see how scary jan is now and then michael randomly hits meredith. That was so hilarious. I was so mad when Jim said he was single and i almost turned it off but then *the car scene*!! It is so great to see them without any obstacles to overcome but i don't want them to hide it the whole time. I also really wanted to see their date
and i am so glad Karen is gone..she was not funny, her and jim had NO chemistry, and i just didn't
think she was half as pretty as Pam. I love how we are seeing more of dwight and angela as a couple. the cat scene was so hilarious "the frozen french fries were torn" hahaha I just thought
the writers did what was expected but really made it fresh and did not have a Pam and Jim couple overkill. The writers are amzing and they wrote a great premiere episode and hopefully a great
season.
