What's a "House" without any team to torture? Why, if Tuesday's season premiere is any indication, he's the same cranky doctor as always. To check out my thoughts on the fourth-season premiere and share your own, just read more
With Chase, Cameron and Foreman all gone, House started off the episode by recruiting a janitor to help him solve the case of a woman who was crushed by a building and developed a mysterious illness on top of that. In no time, House went from describing medical cases to him in condescending terms ("so you have a favorite buffer...") to slapping a white coat on him and calling him Dr. Buffer. I'm a sucker for a good in-joke, and Dr. Buffer was good for that. "Or maybe lupus?" "It's never lupus." Heh. I'm glad that gag didn't last the whole episode, but it was a good setup for things to come.
Cuddy spent the episode trying to get House to admit he needed a new team to help him kick ideas around. But as negotiating tactics go, banning House from discussing cases with other people seemed a little pointless — I mean, if his bouncing ideas off every random doctor and nurse would save a life, shouldn't she be all for it? Still, though, it moved the plot forward enough and set up that great scene at the end, with House warning the prospective fellowship candidates that they have no idea what torture they were in for.

The antics between House and Wilson really stole the show for me in this episode. They have such great chemistry, and while I haven't always found their friendship believable, I'm starting to understand that they thrive on each other's weird energy. I love that Wilson would go through the trouble of making ransom notes after kidnapping the guitar (even if it was Cuddy's doing, I can't see her cutting out all those little magazine letters). And House kidnapping Wilson's patient? Genius, and typically unethical, revenge — especially because it shows that House really does equate that guitar with a human life, at this point.
Some other thoughts:
- I loved the anguish in Wilson's voice when he realized House was monkeying with his TiVo.
- We'll soon know if that one ER doctor who came up with new theories for House winds up being one of the fellowship candidates, but if she does, I'm already fearing for her. "I just care about people"? I sense another Cameron situation coming on.
- I really did not see the twist coming with the case of mistaken identity, but I totally should have. Otherwise, why even introduce the other woman's husband?
- My favorite House line of the night, after Cuddy accuses him of doing absolutely nothing since the team left: "In what twisted universe does mastering Eddie Van Halen’s two-handed arpeggio technique count as absolutely nothing?"
Your thoughts? Do you miss the team? Are you ready for House to start interviewing fresh meat?

Totally saw the mistaken identity twist. After that real life tragedy with the two college students, it seems every drama has been jumping on top of that storyline.
1i saw the mistaken identity thing coming too, but i still enjoyed the episode and i'm glad my favorite show is back
2I honestly really didn't miss the team whatsoever. I enjoyed the banter between House and all the members of the staff, the janitor included. I love this show because of the little things that they do as well, like naming the janitor Dr. Buffer. That was hilarious!
And the tivo scene had me in stitches. And the lengths of creating the ransom note.
I didn't see the mistaken identity thing coming at all, but then, I'm no good at predicting what's going to happen.
Either way, I loved it! Up there as one of my favorite episodes and I can't wait to see what happens next week with House's "hallucinations" about his former team and what horrible things he puts his new recruits through.
3Wilson's kidnapping of House's guitar totally made this episode for me. I think Wilson is very under appreciated and he was really able to shine last night.
4Whoa, wait! My cable went out with 11 minutes to go. So the patient was really the other guys wife? So they were treating the wrong girl with the wrong history? Ok, if anyone else can fill me in a little more I'd appreciate it!!
5I enjoyed the episode, but i still would like the old team to comeback!
6you got it, dh — they were treating the wrong girl with the wrong history. She had the same body type, hair color, etc., as one of her coworkers, and they misidentified her after the building collapsed. So the actual patient was the girlfriend of the guy who thought his girlfriend had died, if that makes sense.
7House is my fave drama, so I was psyched to see it back last night, and in true House form, it was awesome. I saw the mistaken identity thing coming too, but it was because they introduced the other guy for no reason. I can't wait for next week, when House "sees" the team around the hospital.
8last night was great. I enjoyed the show, even without his team. I am sure the new prospects will be jumping thru hoops I am really interested in seeing how it progresses. This has to be my favorite show on tv.
9I only got to watch the last 10 minutes, although my boyfriend filled me in (and gleefully told me about the lupus joke). A co-worker taped it for me, though, so now I have to find a VCR and watch it!
10i lovedddd it. what happened to his team? i ddidnt watch last year. oops
11I loved the Polaroid of the guitar with "I'm not dead. Yet."
Hysterical!
12I loved it I didnt miss the team at all though.. I have gotten into House last season and loved it, eventhough I was a devout Greys fan I am giving it up this season.
13lol, my favorite scene was when Wilson asked House, "Where's the restaurant?" .... etc... I thought that was funny...
14I loved it when Wilson was cutting out the coupon for Tide at the house they broke into. Also, I thought it was a subtle opening to the season, I'd rather get the best of the series as the show goes along not right at the beginning.
15I miss the team but I think it was a good start for the new season. It was sad at the end when they discovered the patient was not the right girl - similar to the real life bus accident with two students that looked alike, one died one in a coma and the hospital switched the two identities.
16loved it- I was just cracking up at all the jokes. didn't miss the old team at all. House (the character) is brilliant and just needs a sounding board for his thoughts. i was getting annoyed with the old team and their drama. It is all about Hugh Laurie for me and his dynamic relationship with everyone he encounters.
17so glad you get to see it Whip!
I loved it. I didn't miss the team, just more House for me to watch, lol.
18I didn't see the mistaken identity coming, and thought it kind of lame when it did. Wouldn't they have checked better? Anyways, loved the House/Wilson interaction, but I always have.
Loved the tivo too Buzz, and then when he threw Wilson's phone out the window when the call ended! lol
I did notice, the teams names all came up in the credits, is that forecasting, or an attempt to throw us off what might happen.
Jinx — from what I know, all three of those actors have contracts, so they'll be on the show at some point, but they may not be back in the same capacity.
Sarita — at the end of the last season, Foreman resigned, House fired Chase, and then Cameron resigned too.
19I didn't see the mistaken identity twist coming. I thought that maybe the guy's friend had gotten his girlfriend pregnant and THAT is why she got an abortion...to hide it from him.
It was an awesome episode. I love the 3 ducklings but didn't miss them much for this episode. LOVED the subplot with the guitar too. lol
20I love this show! I work at a hospital and I know a lot of docs that are like the house character. The janitor posing as a doctor was outrageous!!!
21Love love love Hugh Laurie!
22Definaltey a great start to the season. Totally didn't see the identity thing comming- creepy how that just happened here in Michigan a year ago... but GREAT House/Wilson banter.
23I miss the other 3 docs, i'm sure they'll be back at some point though-
I miss the team! I hope they are back on the show soon! even though i still love house's grumpy bedside manner
24I loved it and I did not see the mistaken identity twist coming. Also I do not want a new team, I want the old one back!
25oh I missed the team so much... especially when he was talking to the women dr. and said you remind me of someone
26What a great episode! Is the old team really out for the count or are they going to come back in later episodes or later seasons?
27I miss Chase terribly. Jesse Spencer lights up every scene he's in. Chase is just as interesting of a character IMO as House. He's charming, flawed, mysterious, and there's a lot left to learn about him. Last night's episode sort of dragged on with just House, Wilson, and Cuddy.
28what's up with people calling him cranky. he's got caracter, extremely sexy caracter. he reminds me of my history professor very much
29house has always stolen every scene he is in, so I don't really miss the team at all. okay, maybe a little just because i miss looking at omar epps.
30I didn't miss the team either, the banter between House, Wilson and Cuddy was good enough for me, it was a great episode.
31This was an awesome episode, I loved it! The janitor as the doctor was hilarious and then Wilson kidnapping the guitar was amazing. I'm also worried that the ER doctor will be another Cameron who got more and more annoying each episode.
32At first, I expected the episode to fall flat without them. but shame on me, I forgot that House is one of the most excellent actors today. I could've watched the entire episode but Dr. Buffer was an added plus, lol. I too felt genuine sympathy for the doctor whom House said "reminded" him of "someone"- as much as I love House, I don't think I can take another Cameron character. I want someone fiery and feisty to fight back! hope the writers agree with me
33Can't wait to watch the episode since I missed it (ugh!), but I miss Omar Epps. His relationship with House will be the most missed of all the team. Can't wait to see who will be introduced! House does dominate in most scenes.
34I have a bet going with a friend that says that on the last episode of the show, it'll be lupus.
Great episode, but I don't think the House/Wilson/Cuddy show could last more than one or two episodes. There need to be ducklings, whether they're the ones we know and occasionally love or fresh blood.
35I did not like this episode as much as I had hoped. However, House never seems to learn from his mistakes so I suspect that is why I have grown complacent.
36I miss the team! But this was a crazy episode.
