Earlier this week, Pop had pictures of some of the ladies from "The Hills" in New York for an event in which MTV filmed the Broadway stage musical production of "Legally Blonde". The show will air next Saturday, September 29. This whole thing got me thinking about the whole concept of making movies into stage musicals.
There have been plenty of these in recent years, from High Fidelity to Young Frankenstein and, soon enough in New York, Dirty Dancing.
What do you think about taking successful films and adapting them for musical theater?

it works with some. but i just find it odd to be honest. I'm interested in how they are going to make Spiderman into a musical.
1It works with some. If Dirty Dancing is going to broadway, I'm booking a flight to NY. That is my favorite movie and I would love to see it on stage.
2Nooooo!
3do not know about this but some it has worked for
4I'd rather see something fresh on stage.
5I think like most areas of the entertainment industry if something worked well once suits think the most superficial aspects of it are a formula for success and then beat the idea to death.
6i dont know..but i love broadway!
7Well said, kelleylocke, well said!
8I'm intrested in seeing Legally Blonde the Musical, on tv. I just hope that it'll turn out right. I've always wanted to see Wicked with the original cast, I think it would make an amazing movie, especially for those that haven't seen it yet.
9I agree that it takes the right kind of movie, but more importantly, (as with anything) it takes the right creative team.
10Sometimes the result is magical - anyone remember that The Producers stage show was based on the 1960s movie (not a musical)?
11I was also skeptical about Mary Poppins because I'm such a huge Julie Andres fan, but I had the best time at it!
Of course, sometimes it's not so great - Tarzan, anyone? Don't think so.
Singin' in the Rain also works better as a movie.
I could go on...
Not all movies would work as Bway musicals. But sometimes producers feel safer with adaptations.
12I saw this when it premiered in San Francisco last Winter and it was amAzing! The music is so fun, and the dancing and the costumes. I'm a huge fan of the movie, and of course, Reese... so I was worried, but it turned out spectacular. I listen to the CD all the time and LOVE it!
13The Lion King was one thing....but I just can't get into the whole Legally Blonde thing.
14In theory, it sounds like a really bad idea. I saw Legally Blonde this weekend and it was fabulous. You have to give it a chance, and most broadway productions are so mesmerizing, the story is in the background.
15i believe it only works with some
16Legally Blonde the Musical was awesome.
17It seems like a bad idea....
18Hate it! They are planning to make Harry Potter into a musical. Can you say awful? What would the songs even be about? But I guess certain movies could work.
