Back when this movie was a part of my tearjerker movies Fall Movie Preview post, there was no trailer available, but I was looking forward to seeing what the tone of this movie would be. Now, judging from the newly released trailer, it looks a little sappy, but also cute and endearing — if you're in that kind of mood. Plus, I recently learned that Swank injured herself during a scene in which Gerard Butler is stripping, and somehow that makes me like the movie more.
Opening December 21, the movie is based on a novel and stars Hilary Swank as Holly, a young widow who discovers that her husband wrote out messages for her just before he died. Some of the notes include unusual requests, and before long, Holly and her girlfriends (played by Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon, pictured) are going on a string of adventures that Holly's late husband planned for her.
I think the best parts of the trailer feature Lisa Kudrow's character's ill-fated attempts to pick up men (well, those moments and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's extremely adorable smile are my favorite parts), but you can see what you think of the trailer yourself if you read more

i love Gerard...
1Couldn't agree with you more, Buzz. The movie does look at bit sappy (and endearing) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's smile is absolutely adorable! Hilary Swank, unfortunately, might be the weakest link in the film.
2Aww, that looks cute, in a sappy yet endearing sort of way. I agree about JDM's smile and Lisa Kudrow's pick-up attempts.
3I read the book a few years ago and it was sad. It ended very nice though. I guess Ill have to see the movie to see how well it was adapted.
4I really liked the book this movie was based on. I agree with Linda about Hilary Swank's character, not sure I would have picked her.
5This is one of my favourite books so I really hope they do it justice. Fingers crossed JDM doesn't die in this....could not handle another death for him!!!
6oh my god, im teary eyed just watching the trailer...
7gerard and jeffery dean morgan....mmmm
8awww I think it looks soo cute.. I love sappy movies. I agree with ur_momm... haha!
9Ugh. Hilary should stick to being a man/tomboy/transgender in her movies. Somehow she doesn't scream "romantic lead" to me.
10Why is it that when a movie is based on a book, the writers seem to think it's ok to change characters and locations.
There's no way I can watch this anyway - Gerard Butler's accent is TERRIBLE!!!
11I thought Gerard Butler was from Ireland? I can't tell his accent is that off.
12This looks cute, and I have to admit that I now need to go find the hat and coat she's wearing in the picture above.
13No sumbum he's Scottish. And sounds like the "lucky charms" leprechaun
141. this looks soooo awesome!
152. my good god gerard is incredibly sexy!
2. gina looks great wonder if she had work done?
I agree that Hilary is the weak link. Ugh. But I'm going to watch it for Lisa and Jeffrey and Gerard and Harry and James.
16I really want to see this movie, even though I'm not a huge fan of Hilary Swank. But I love Gerard Butler! Lisa Kudrow and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are good additions to the cast as well.
174. gerard butler is sooo hot!
185. lisa kudrow rocks
6. love kathy bates
7. adore harry
8. had to watch this twice
9. did i say how hot gb is?
10. my favorite part is the girls trying to fish...too cute!
19spartaaaaaaaaaaannn... tonight... we dine... IN HELL!!!
20Yeah-ok, I'm convinced to give it a shot now. It looks cute.
21This movie looks so cute and i lovee Gerard Butler!!!!
22Gerard Butler & Jeffrey Dean Morgan? I will so put up with Hilary Swank for them!
23it actually looks a little too cute-sy for me. i loved how raw and emotional the book got.. i hope she can tap into that.
DENNY!!!
24I loved this book.. I am soo looking forward to seeing this movie..
25i love him but she makes me sick. i wont see it. i can get my gerard fixes from 300 still.
26Oh why did they have to pick her for the romantic lead, I can think of 10 other actresses (at least) who would have been perfect for this role! Despite that, I will definately see it for all the other characters.
27Gerry...stripping. I'm interested.
28looks like it'll be a good rainy-day movie. The costuming looks good and so does the scenery. I agree that a different leading lady would've been preferred, but she does look very cute in that hat/trench coat get-up!
29I can't wait to see this movie. BTW: Gerard is Scottish, but he is of Irish decent.
30I love Gerard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's the only reason I'd watch this movie.
31This movie was originally a book written by Irish author Cecelia Ahern who is the daughter of an tAoiseach Bertie Aherne (Ireland's answer to a prime minister) she's very young and it's a huge deal for her that it got a movie deal. Well done!
32I loved this movie. I love the fashion even more. I'm looking for that black trench coat Hillary is wearing in the picture above. Anyone have any idea who made it? I have googled my brains out for this coat.
