In its second day of release, New Moon has already broken two box office records. It set a new high for midnight ticket sales, and yesterday it became the biggest single day earner, taking in over $72 million! The record was previously held by The Dark Knight, which earned $67.1 million.

Now the question remains: can New Moon go on to have the biggest opening weekend of all time? Will it land on the legendary list of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters?

Good job!!!!! I will be watching the movie tomorrow!!! yeah!!!!
1I saw the movie last night. And I absolutely loved it. Great job on the special effects. Didn't look low budget or cheesy. The werewolf transformations awesome. The acting so much better than Twilight. Great job. Well worth the box office $$$.
2Loved it! saw the first showing yesterday morning and had a chance to go see it again at the drive in last night! lol
3Just saw it today and loved it! Everyone did amazing and Dakota Fanning impressed me so much! She is growing into quite the actress!
4so happy it's breaking records. I saw it yesterday and loved it.
5Seriously, why does everyone think Robert Pattinson is so dreamy? That man is fugly.
The Twilight hysteria is why I'm avoiding movie theaters this weekend. Maybe we'll see the Blind Side next weekend, but it's not worth it this weekend, fighting the crazy lines of Twihards. It'll probably be crazy next weekend too. Sigh.
6So your mad cuz you can't watch a movie this weekend?? Seriously.. Sorry if us twihards really like this movie.. and want to watch it as many times as we can.. but dont go hating on us.. no one is asking for your opinions..
7Was as close to the book as can be in the allotted time movie wise, with the exception they really need to consider finding a new director! Too slow in some parts, too brief in others. The acting seemed borderline authentic,Edward was too brooding and Bella was almost comatose,Jacob was up and down...but I guess if I'd just found out I was a werewolf I'd be a little freaked too! Too little time spent on making the new characters more in depth. The make-up was over done, the contacts they used were horrific, the wigs in Twilight were harder to spot, but in New Moon the wigs looked as though they were purchased from the clearance bin at the Halloween store the day after Halloween! People complain that Twilight was too dark, hard to see scenes. New Moon was too light in parts where darker would have been better, the sense of things in the dark or dimly lit areas were lost. The darkness had been a great part of creating ambiance in the movie Twilight. The beauty of the characters was lost in this movie. In Twilight Edward looked like a real person,a little on the pale side, but had the most beautiful eyes you could just possibly lovingly stare into for hours, it made him sexy in an untouchable sorta way. Even the bloodthirsty vampires looked better with the darker red eyes from Twilight than this brilliant red crap they substituted in this film. Poor Dakota Fanning! Jane in the book was ominous and could inflict pain on anybody and she enjoyed her job. Dakota did a great job in the acting department her lines, though a small amount were direct and she has the Jane stare down pat. The "Little Red Riding Hood" cape, white tights, and little black shoes and those AWFUL contact lenses turned the book character of Jane into somewhat of a joke! Now Goth her out a little with knee-high leather boots, a darker longer cape with a hood, and the original "thirsty" eyes and you have a force to reckon with! All the vampires this time were overdone badly, and looked like psychotic escapees from a bad zombie movie! I guess they decided to play up the werewolves this time, because with the exception of the bad wig on Jacob, the wolf-pack (for lack of a better word) was buff, tan, and looking good! I don't know why they made the vampires so fake and ugly looking, hidden agenda maybe? I'm sure all the Twi-hards as they put it,(once again for lack of a better word),blinded by their undying love for the fantasy of the actors or their characters thought this was the best movie ever, but as far as I see the director and whoever else approved of the new character looks should be unemployed. I read all 4 books in 3 days and even though New Moon was close in content to the book on screen, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are way longer and detailed,so as each movie goes on, re-creation and staying true to Stephanie Meyers books is going to be a true cinematographic challenge. At the rate it's going now, I'd be mad if I was her! The vampires in her books had a beautiful, almost seductive, quality to them. That image was all but trashed in New Moon. With all the money they spent with the CGI werewolf transformations,I was truely expecting more. I heard Eclipse is already finished and due out in June. I think the same director was directing that one too, which makes me fearful that it will be the same thrown together bunch of mess New Moon was. They have turned this whole Twilight thing into a teen sensational franchise. But the thing is they are making these same teens look like idiots if the quality of the last movie in the series doesn't improve. Trends change, teens get bored and sooner or later if something keeps on sucking, they lose interest. They are feeding off the idea they got the teens hooked on the sensationalism of Twilight, they will watch it crappy or not. That is pitiful, but also the way big business goes nowdays. It will be interesting to see if this comes back to bite them in the butt, with mostly empty theaters by the time Breaking Dawn releases
8They have the media and every celeb site to thank for the big lines at the box office. If this fugly guy wasn't shoved down everyone's throats for the last year as if he was some kind of fugly god to be idolized by all tweens, not as many would care about this movie. I hope they paid the media well.
9I would definitely agree that the look of the vamps did not equal Twilight (the wigs were horrendous). But of course it didn't, Twilight had a FEMALE director...we pay attention to stuff like that. Overall the movie was good, it had more action, a better flow, and was closer to the book. BUT they could have done better!
10I feel for the kids in these movies. Kristen Stewart was already doing movies so she knew what was going on. Robert Pattinson had done some films and Taylor Lautner is so new to this I don't think he had any idea of what was gonna hit him. The part about the media is right,it is pretty sad when you have 30+ aged hosts of these nightly entertainment gossip shows telling a 17 year old boy to pull up his shirt and showoff the abs and then pets on the said abs with her hand then gets all giggly about it! Puke! Poor kid,now he's been seen with a 19 year old celeb, that the media told him she had a crush on him. As for Robert he says himself he doesn't see what the girls see in him to go all crazy, back home he was just normal average didn't have a girl Rob. If people will notice back before he became Edward he was clean cut and all that. Now people rag on how he is ugly and doesn't shave and probably smells, poor guy is just trying to be just Rob. He knows and has said the girls are in love with Edward they call him Edward, they want the character you play, not who you really are! Gotta be a big hit to the psyche! These kids do have feelings and who knows how bad all this negativity affects them. Media created all this hype and the kids get all caught up in the middle. What kid wouldn't want to go from nobody to somebody in the blink of an eye. I think in the industry these are the kids that get chewed up and spit out, dumped in the dirt when the franchise or the media deems your career is over. Some kids get an ego,go all crazy and act untouchable. The kids in Twilight poor things, just want to be kids.
11NEW MOON IS PRETTY F*CK*N AWESOME!!!!!!!!
12ROBSTEN REALLY DAMN GREAT! GREAT ACTING KSTEW!
YEAH AND TAYLOR LAUTNER IS DAMN GOOD!
CHRIS WEITZ YOUR THE MAN!!!!
SUCK IT HARD HATERZ!!!!
i'm not at all surprised by this - i think that everyone's been so excited about this movie for such a long time. now if only it had fulfilled my expectations - i would see it a 2nd time like i did the first one but nope - 1x for now is good enough for me.
i can't wait to hear about the records that it breaks for opening weekend.
13I'm sorry I really dont understand the hype behind all of this. I hadnt seen Twilight nor did I have any interest to, but one of my girlfriends wanted to see it and didnt want to go alone so she paid for my ticket and I went. We watched the first movie beforehand so I could be up to speed, but fast forwarded through most of it (watched the whole movie in about 35 mins) because she was saying it wasnt that important. THe acting was terrible and it was totally cheesy. Then I saw New Moon last night - got about an hour into it and fell asleep. This story is nothing new...its just that it has to do with vampires now. The acting in the 2nd one was better than the first, but Ive seen Kristen Stewart in many indie movies and she is actually a good actress, where you would never know that from these movies. I just dont see the appeal to the whole saga at all.
14Suziryder, just go to an art house cinema.
15i think new moon was better than twilight. i mean dont take me wrong i love the both of them but i feel like chris weitz offered more for new moon than catherine hardwick for twilight. oh and for the ppl that dont like it at all why are you reading this post or even on this website????
16As Rachel Zoe would say, O-O-C.
17hey #18, FYI personal attacks are not cool.
18To No. 18: Personal attacks are not ok.
19I wish all the people who paid money to see the movies and the books realized just how rich they are making the Mormon church (The author has to give at least 10% of her earnings as a member of that faith). If you support them and their political agenda (i.e. up to 40 percent of donations for California's prop. 8 came from the church) that's fine, otherwise, I'd consider waiting and borrowing the DVD from a friend.
20fantastic OMG fantastic
21Yeah, I don't really care too much for the movie/series, but and I'm kind of annoyed that's it's breaking records because it's will go down on the books, yet it's still a bad movie with bad actors. I just don't it's that deserving.

23@cordata: I guess you also boycott Tom Cruise and Will Smith b/c they donate their earnings to Scientology. Good for you. Your $10 will make a huge difference.
24I'm happy that they broke the box office records, they worked hard and they deserve it! I absolutely loved the movie it lived up to my expectations, so I'm happy! Congrats to the cast!
25I watched the movie yesterday and I absolutely loved it. I liked all of it and the best part was Rob as Edward, he was exceptional, I could really feel his pain.I am not surprised the movie did this good.
Good job!! I can't wait for Remember Me now and Eclipse yeahhh!!!
26Umm, actually that's correct Mrs. Johnson. I'm just saying people should be aware of who they're giving their money to. But thanks for the lovely sarcasm.
