The beloved '80s toy turned movie turned TV show, My Little Pony, is getting resurrected with a series set to air on the new Discovery-Hasbro kids channel.
Makes sense since My Little Pony is a Hasbro creation, but I have mixed feelings over this news. I was nutty for the toys growing up — I even had a tiny plastic pony tent that I used to pitch in my living room. And while I'm glad to see an old familiar friend make a comeback, I hope they don't turn it into some newfangled 2.0 version meant to look more slick, like so many other cartoons nowadays. Don't mess with a classic, people!
What's your take on My Little Pony's TV update? Were you a fan of the original?

I'm completely in favor of this!
1I don't know. I worry about them trying to make some newer, slicker version too. I LOVED LOVED LOVED Strawberry Shortcake when I was little, but I HATE HATE HATE the way she looks now in the updated version. Every time I see something Strawberry Shortcake related, I just think WHYYY DID THEY MESS WITH A CLASSIC!?
2I think they should turn it into a live action horror TV show where the My Little Pony's come to life when the children aren't looking and cause mayham.
3haha me and my best friend in primary school used to run around the playground pretending we were riding characters from my little pony.
4I think they should only bring it back if they stay true to the original version. I agree that they totally Ruined Strawberry Shortcake with the "update." It's really depressing when they change something so drastically that you used to love.
5i loved my little pony!!!!
i also hope they don't update it, but i'm guessing we'll be seeing some slutty looking ponies soon. sad.
6They already make a ton of My Little Pony Movies, my nieces used to be obsessed. They definitely look updated compared to the 80's show. So I am sure the new show will resemble the 2000's movies more than than the 80's show. They aren't terrible though. The movies usually follow one pony per movie, Minty's Christmas etc.
7For Christmas 3 years ago I got Escape from Catrina* on VHS from my father. It was my absolute favorite when I was little and he remembered.
(I still love it!) haha
*A magical cat forces the Bushwoolies to work to make Witchweed potion, the source of her powers. When they escape, she tries to make the Little Ponies her new slaves.
8Wait, is this the one with Clover, Starlight, Melody etc etc? If so HELLS YES. Oh my god. Any ponies from the good old days is freakin sweet by me.
9oh wait! They're re-doing it?! Umm
.
10I'm with you Buzz, I loved the original and really hope they keep it the same.
11i love my little pony!!!
12ahhhh the Bushwoolies!!!!!!! Brian-you are lucky!! i loved the movie about the Smooze, but the name escapes me at the moment!!
i was THE biggest MLP fan when i was little (i have close to 100 ponies up in my mom's attic + Paradise Estate), but the new movies/ponies just don't compare. they don't even look the same anymore!
13I LOVED MLP!!! I still have several of the toys
I remember watching them on TV. . .
:sings: Something's starting right now. something's starting, oh wow!My little pony, my little pony, my little pony tales! . . . bon bon's baking cookies girls, hurry up on over!
With their recent movies, haven't they all been computer animation?
I also don't like the new
Strawberry Shortcake and I am praying that the new Rainbow Brite pictures were just jokes. Brite was right up there in my faves with MLP, Carebears, JEM, Thundercats, GI Joe and of course
TMNT.
