It was just announced that Jon Stewart will return as host of the 2008 Academy Awards. The show airs Feb 24 and will be produced by Gil Cates, who also produced Jon's first time back in 2006 and must have taken a liking to "The Daily Show" anchor.
The only slightly odd part was that Jon's 2006 ratings were lower than both Chris Rock the year before and Ellen last year. Also, the reviews of Jon's first hosting gig were mixed at best.
I've always been a huge fan of Jon and his sense of humor, but it was definitely a toned down version of him on stage in 2006. I thought Ellen did an excellent job last year, but I can't wait to see Stewart's second crack at the gig. What do you think — good choice, should they have stuck with Ellen or found someone new entirely? (You know, Seacrest is always up for a challenge.)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! he was nervous and self-deprecating last time! i could barely watch! as much as i used to love this man i cannot get down with this decision.
1My favorite host was Steve Martin. He hosted a few year back... and he killed. I don't mind Stewart... and maybe the shows producers won't freak him out this time.
2bad choice. he was a fluke then and he'll be a fluke this time. he is normally funny and talented, but in that setting he just doesn't work. bring Ellen back!
3Ellen was made for this job!
4Ugh, Ellen was so boring! I fell asleep (twice!)
5What? Sarah Silverman is not available?
6I'm sorry i like Jon Stewart but he was horrible hosting. I liked Ellen last year- i will even go for Billy Crystal.
7Either way the Oscars will be boring and predictable
I like Jon. Maybe he'll be more relaxed this time since he's been there, done that.
8i echo the above commenters ... why? it was painful to watch the last time, so why put us through that again?
i'm praying he'll have better writers - or something!
9haha, vintage...i was thinking the same thing!
i like jon, so i'll give him another chance. hosting your first time has got to be ridiculously stressful - maybe he'll be more relaxed this time.
10Laaaaaaame!! Bring back Ellen, she was awesome! Best since Billy Crystal!
11Yikes. He's such a great host on his show, but his last Oscar gig was a little painful. I have faith though. At least I hope...
12Are you guys insane? Jon Stewart is soooo funny! I'm voting YEs and actually excited about the show now. YAY, JON!
13YAY for Jon. I totally enjoyed it when he hosted. I like his self-deprecating shtick. He's like that on the daily show as well...
I actually think that ratings are much more tied to what types of movies are nominated. I mean the year he hosted, there were not a lot of mainstream movies up for awards... Brokeback, Crash, Capote. And there weren't really expected to be any suprises. Last year, no one knew which film would win and there were more 'mainstream/hit' nominees... Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, Dreamgirls. I think there was just more excited about the movies - so I don't think that ratings are necessarily a good judge on whether the host was great or not.
14What!!!!!!!! what about Conon....................arghhhhhhhhh.........well, there goes the Oscars for me
15i LOVE jon stewart, but i thought he didn't do as well as he could have. i'd love some skits this time...although better jon than chris rock, that was just miserable...
16oh cool! he's so funny! very charismatic, too.
17As much as I love Jon Stewart, I think they should have gotten someone entirely new to host the Oscars this year. I feel it's too soon to get him back sice he hosted only the year before last. I was hoping they'd get Jerry Sinfeild to host the show.
18Anyone but Ryan Seacrust! Yuck!
19I thought he was good. Guess I was in the minority after reading all of these comments. Jeez.
20Come on guys he's gonna be great
21lol, Seacrust. I'd totally take Jon Stewart over Ellen, but I'd take _anyone_ over Ryan Seacrest. Think Oscar the Grouch is busy?
22Great choice!
Jon Stewart just slammed Cameron Diaz live at the Oscars Ha Ha Ha. Way to go Jon!! Nicely done
