Well it's September, folks, and the summertime movie season is officially over. Now we have a whole new crop of films to check out in the coming chillier months, so in preparation for that, I'm giving you little glimpses of this fall and winter's must-see movies with my Fall Movie Preview series. Today I'm bringing you three titles from the bloody, fright-filled horror genre.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
In this film version of the stage musical, Johnny Depp plays Sweeney Todd, a barber who is wrongfully imprisoned and seeks revenge on the judge (played by Alan Rickman) who sentenced him. Tim Burton directs (naturally) while Sacha Baron Cohen and the ever-commanding Helena Bonham Carter also star. Sweeney Todd's story begins with these ominous words: "Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd./His skin was pale and his eye was odd./He shaved the faces of gentlemen/Who never thereafter were heard of again." The movie, of which some parts were rumored to be cut because they were too gruesome, opens this Christmas.

30 Days of Night
Josh Hartnett stars as the Sheriff of a small Alaskan town that naturally spends 30 days a year in darkness. As the last bit of sunlight fades, the town is overtaken by a gang of bloodthirsty vampires (I wonder if vampires are ever not bloodthirsty?). Hartnett and his Deputy wife are the town's last hope. Ben Foster stars as well, doing that creepy thing he does so well. 30 Days of Night opens October 19, just in time for Halloween, so in the meantime check out the scary-looking trailer.

Saw IV
And the Saw movies keep on coming. In this fourth installment, the plot description is this: "Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead. Now, upon the news of Detective Kerry's murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm and Agent Perez, arrive in the terrified community to assist the veteran Detective Hoffman in sifting through Jigsaw's latest grizzly remains and piecing together the puzzle. However, when SWAT Commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demented traps and save an old friend or face the deadly consequences. " If you're into these movies, check out Saw IV when it opens October 26.

Looks really good
1I'll see the first two, but not Saw IV. I saw the first Saw and regretted the loss of those 2 hours from my life.
2I am a huge horror fan, so I'm super excited. I hope that 30 Days of Night is good because we need a new Vampire movie that isn't hokie. I am really burned out on Saw. It isn't scarey anymore, just blood and guts. I'll wait till that one comes out on video. Sweeney Todd should be awesome because anything that Depp and Burton do are always great movies.
3Sweeney Todd looks fantastic- I just hope Burton's gotten his touch back with this one. 30 Days looks like another great addition to the "how to adapt a graphic novel" school of thought. How convenient is it that the police officer gets 90 minutes to figure out the riddle in Saw 4? That franchise was getting old after the first one...
4I've been looking forward to Sweeney Todd. I will watch 30 days, too.
5I will never watch Saw IV. Crap horror movie, I'm sure.
Sweeney Todd, Excited! Saw 102 not so much.
6CREEPY!!!!!!!
7i love johhny depp and all but edward scissorhands is still creepy to watch lol when i was younger i was more afraid of EDWARD than i was of CHUCKY (the doll
) ..this is probably why i can't tolerate john mayer cuz he reminds me of edward
scissorhands
8anyway back on topic i'm not gonna see Sweeney todd i did a report on that poem though last term lol
9i meant story ** aah not poem lol
10sweeny tood and saw.
11sweeney todd and 30 days sound good but no saw. i just dont think i can watch that movie. the first one did not look good and i have stayed away from the rest.
12For the love of God, why do they keep making Saw movies??
13YAY Sweeney Todd! Loved in on Broadway and I can't wait for Tim Burton's take on it.
14Anything with Johnny Depp in it is good enough for me
15Sweeney Todd is my all-time favorite musical and 30 Days of Night is a terrific book, so I'll be seeing those two. Not interested in Saw.
Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Timothy Spall? It's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: The Musical!
16Definitely looking forward to Sweeney Todd (love Johnny Depp!) and 30 Days of Night sounds interesting (if done right). I could care less about Saw...
17I can not wait to see sweeney todd - What a cast! And come on Tim Burton - who doesn't love his work?!
18I can't wait to see Sweeney Todd- (anythin w/ Johnny Depp
19i h8 saw movies and i just don't understand why guys love them so much. Argh.
20saw is so old and overrated
the rest look great
21I cant wait til Sweeney Todd!!!
22Unless they changed the name for the movie-- It's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." (At least that is what the musical is entitled... My FAVORITE musical!) Can't wait for the movie- Johnny Depp will be perfect in this role.
23i can't stand movies that are all gore, and nothing more (poetic? anyway...) so i hate saw... i only watched a little bit and it was a total mistake. anyway, sweeney todd looks interesting, and i think tim burton can bring a lot to it and him and johnny depp can make up for the atrocity that was charlie and the chocolate factory... hopefully given a more grown up platform they can make the crazy things work. the 30 days of night i'm not that interested in... it just seems boring.
24Looking forward to Sweeney Todd, I just hope it's not too horrific, I'm not into horror movies. Sleepy Hollow type horror I can handle.
25I didn't know it was a HORROR movie, but I'm still watching because it's Tim Burton.
26Sweeney Todd looks awesome.
Not so into Harnett and bloodsuckers and I too am burned out on Saw.
27Definetly Sweeney Todd and 30 Days. Depp and Burton are magic when they work together, most of the time, and I need a good scare.
30 days looks to be a fun vampire movie. don't know much about it but i'll check it out in theatres.
As for that filith that keeps on rolling out, Saw 434234 whatever it is now, i will not see. I had refused to watch anymore after the 1st one but was shanghied into seeing the last two. I won't let that happen again. Don't want to waste my money on crap movies with the prices at the theatres now.
28The cast sounds wonderful, and with Tim Burton behind it, it's gotta be good
29ANOTHER Saw?
So every year for the next 20 years, are we going to see a new Saw at
halloweentime?
30Sweeney Todd just has to be great. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton--what a pair!
31how many more saw movies are there i thought once jig saw and his sidekick were dead that was it wow
32I can't wait to see Saw 4 and 30 Days of Night. I love vampires and Ben Foster, and I love the Saw series.
33Yea Iam for it too with anything that have Johnny Depp I will go see them.
34Helena Bonham Carter in anything is scary.
35I just love the 'Johnny-Helena' tandem!
36i can't wait for the saw - i love horror movies
37You know I can't wait to see Sweeney Todd. Tim Burton fan ovaaaaaa hea!
Hahah.
38although I'm normally not into "horror" movies I'm definitely going to see Sweeney Todd. Can't miss my Johnny! LOL.
39I can not wait for Sweeny Todd and 30 Days of Night.
Saw...well... I'd rather be in one of those movies then watch it.
40Perfect casting - Sweeney Todd - Johnny Depp morphs into whatever character he plays (his roles are always much more than 'oh that's Johnny Depp playing' a character). Helena BC is all kinds of crazy. And Alan Rickman is very dark and mysterious.
41i can't wait for sweeney todd either. alan rickman & johnny depp are two of the greatest actors out there. it's sure to be amazing. i'm 100% going on christmas!
30 days of night also looks good. i'm a huge horror movie fan.
i'll probably end up seeing saw just because i saw (haha) all the others. the first one was good and the other 2 sucked. i'm sure the 4th will suck, but i can't watch just one or two movies from a series, i have to see them all. my husband's a horror movie fan & we like to make fun of sh*tty horror films together
42alan rickman is dark and mysterious and SEXY. you forgot that part
*major alan rickman crush here*
43I'm ridiculously excited for Sweeney Todd. I think I'm looking forward to it more than any other movie coming out this year. Sadly, I probably will see it Christmas day. Screw my family haha, that's more important. But I'd rather gouge my eyes out than see the new Saw movie.
44can't wait to see Helena & Johnny
45I can't wait
46I love horror movies
47cool, i love scary movies
48Sweeney Todd...i cant wait!
49Def going to see Sweeney Todd.
and since i have seen all the SAW movies now I will most likely see Saw IV.
yay for horror films!
