They're baaaaack! This week on Grey's Anatomy, Meredith, and Izzie make their returns to Seattle Grace/Mercy West, though only Mere is back in scrubs. Izzie heads back to the hospital with her favorite high-school teacher in tow, a sweet guy who's suffering from what appears to be dementia and is constantly referring to Izzie as a pregnant teen. Meanwhile, Hunt brings in a new "cardio god" (Kim Raver), though Cristina isn't exactly thrilled that her "gift" is a hot leggy blonde that already has a rapport with her boyfriend.

Plus, Mere and Derek have a few adorable moments while Sloan becomes the show's new gossip girl. There's a lot more to talk about, so to get into it just read more.
- Izzie strolls into the hospital like she never left, but of course her friends have lots of questions. Meredith and Cristina are both curious and a little hurt while Alex ignores her completely. Izzie doesn't exactly explain what she's been doing, but immediately starts making demands for her friends to take care of her teacher. She even blackmails Dr. Percy when he sasses her about being fired (though I kind of cheered when she threatens to tell Reid his secret). Izzie even squares off with the chief, but in the end she gets her way.
- Poor Alex doesn't know how to handle Izzie's return, but Mere finally encourages him to talk to his wife. Izzie accuses Alex of getting her fired, but Karev bites back and points out that Izzie didn't even ask him about it. After seeing them square off like they have so many times before, it's almost hard to believe they were ever married in the first place. When Alex tells Izzie that he can't forgive her, he heads to the bar to drink the pain away with Mere. Love the friendship between Mere and Karev by the way — if she and Derek weren't so cute together these days, I'd almost root for a new coupling.
- Kim Raver makes her first appearance on the show this week, as new doc Teddy Altman. At first Cristina is psyched to welcome a new cardio surgeon but her enthusiasm wanes when she realizes that Hunt and Teddy have a past together. Teddy takes a liking to Cristina, even when Yang gives her lip — that is, until Teddy realizes that Cristina is Hunt's girlfriend. When Teddy learns that Hunt brought her in as a "present" to his lady love, Teddy kicks into serious mode which earns Yang's respect. The ladies turn out to be a pretty good team by the end of the episode.
- I have to say that I really liked Raver as the new doctor. Yes, her moment in the rain was a bit too cheesy for me, but overall I think she'll be a good addition. While she's clearly carrying a torch for Hunt, she doesn't seem like the type to go for the jugular and try to steal him away from Cristina. The real question is whether or not Hunt runs into Teddy's arms when he inevitably learns that Yang swapped a little spit with Dr. Avery.
- When Adele comes into the hospital wondering where her husband has been sneaking off to for the past few nights, she quickly accuses Bailey of being his mistress. The idea is completely hilarious, though Bailey doesn't exactly do the best job of calming Adele's fears, and Callie only makes it worse by calling them "work husband and wife." Bailey immediately starts a witch hunt to figure out which doctor actually is having an affair with the chief, but things take a serious turn when Lexie and Reid discover that the chief has made a serious mistake with one his patients. Bailey covers for him, but when she tells the chief what happens, he decides to take a break and gives his surgeries to Bailey. Then he heads to the bar to drink, where Mere catches him in the act. The final scene where the chief is playing out all the recent bad interactions with his co-workers mixed in with his memories of his alcoholism is depressing to say the least. I have to say though — I thought it was sort of silly that the chief chooses the closest bar to fall off the wagon. He's clearly embarrassed when Meredith sees him, but was he really expecting the bar to be deserted? It's like he wanted to get caught.

I was right about Kim's role as a Cardio God-haha. But then again, it wasn't that hard. I also really liked her and Christina working together. I like Kim's addition, and I don't mind seeing Hunt be with her because I think Avery and Christina are better suited. It may just be because I find him so hot and he needs someone lol. I'm also quite over the Chief and his antics though it was hilarious for his wife to suggest him and Bailey were having an affair-I can't even imagine it lol-it's more brother-sister lol.
1"Izzie strolls into the hospital like she never left," No she doesnt, she doesnt even want to come in there, Mere makes her.
I could see Heigls hair clipped up in the back to make it look like it was super short, lame attempt if you ask me. I really wish they would kill her off, for good.
I didnt like this episode all that much, the new cardo doc, a possible wedge between Hunt and Christina, Chiefs alcoholism....
2I was so glad that Izzie mentioned the EIGHT MILLION dollars she gave the hospital, how irritating that they fail to see this when they first bill her and then chose not to do pro bono surgeries in her own clinic. I feel so bad for Alex though--I can't stand Izzie.
I was kind of shocked at the chiefs story line, so sad.
And Teddy isn't the first cardio surgeon since Burke, they even mention how Yang scared them all away, and then Callie says she scared Hahn away, so there was Hahn and then I think the lady with asperger'swas a heart surgeon. Chief even says to Christina he keeps bringing in heart ppl. for her.
3Happsmjc, you're right about the Dr. Burke comment, thanks for catching that
4Love Mark being the gossip. They really should incorporate him more!
So tired of the Chief, i just wish he'd quit already and I never enjoy Adele's visits to the hospital. And Baily thinking he's having an affair with Izzie? Puh lease, like Bailey would ever think that.
i thought Izzie was acing like a child while dealing with Karev. he has every right to be pissed about her antics. And I'm also liking the dynamic between Karev and Mere. They seem to have a good friendship
5I really liked Kim's addition. I'm glad to get a hard ass back in there, Sloans all soft now and Hunt isnt exactly hardcore like he was either...
6Squee!! I'm so excited that Grey's is taking a turn for the better. I had gotten to the point where episodes made me cry just because I thought Grey's was going downhill and would be dead soon. But, this episode was great I thought!! I'm really hoping they are working towards getting rid of the Chief, and that's the only reason why I tolerated his storyline.. he seems like he is spiraling out of control and this would be a good time to say Farewell Chief Webber! I'm ready to be done with all of the Ellis Grey talk, and the odd little connection he and Meredith have because of it too. It's played out.
I was glad to have Izzie back, glad she brought up the 8 mill, but I hope they eventually have someone tell her just how hard her being gone was on Alex. Time for Izzie to feel like crap for what she did.
Love Derek and Meredith! I'm so glad they are letting them just love each other without any drama coming between them.. we needed a break from the on-again off-again with those two.
There have been a couple of scenes lately that feel like the old Grey's greatness.. like the scene in the lunchroom. So yay for that.
And FINALLY Christina gets some genuine heart surgery time! I'm just glad they brought in someone who wasn't going to be a jerk to Christina from day one for one reason or another. It's time she gets to shine (although,I must admit ever since she said she missed Burke I've been hoping he would come back.. but Kim was pretty great too). Also glad to have her be attractive, like Hahn and Dixon soooo weren't.
Was the thing about Sloan's daughter in the preview for next week? (I missed that). If it wasn't.. please quit posting spoilers popsugar! and if it was, i apologize
7Oh, one more thing.. I really dislike the inconsistencies with cardio they have had.. Clearly they haven't had a cardiac surgeon at Seattle Grey's.. they even point out that Christina has run them all off.. but yet last week's episode they paged cardio and were upset with Christina for not waiting, AND no way could a hospital that size not have a cardiothoracic surgeon on staff. NO WAY.
alright, I'm done now
8"Looking forward to next week's episode where Dr. Sloan's daughter comes in?"
Did that really have to be added in here? :/ I don't watch the previews for upcoming episodes so I didn't know about this before reading it here. Didn't really appreciate that.
9They have cardiac surgeons, but the haven't been able to find a good cardiac attending like derek, mark, owen, and addison were for their fields. It's not like she is the only cardiac doctor at the hospital.
10I really enjoyed this episode- I was happy to see Izzie's return short lived but she does owe Alex an apology she was very wrong and he was just protecting her.
11I was totally caught off guard with the Chiefs issue being that he has a drinking problem.
As for the previews- I don't really think it spoils anything for you. They get your mind running. Like last week they made us all think that Izzie was possibly pregnant but it was just her sick patient making stuff up. So I don't think they do much to spoil anything I actually enjoy them because it gets me excited to tune in!
If the Chief steps down like we all think he will do we all think that Derek will take his place or do you think they will bring in someone else?
12i hope they hire derrick as the new chief, care. i think he would be great in that position and he should be a shoo in after that surgery on Issac (the guy w/ the masive spinal tumor).
izzie is making me not like her anymore. i used to be a fan until now!
13the chief goes to that bar all the time, just to hang out i guess. and i think by the flashbacks, it shows that he hasnt just fallen off the wagon, he's BEEN drinking for quite some time...under the guise that it's club soda....
14The whole Izzy thing is getting old! Katherine should just leave and make movies, her character has been completely destroyed in the past few seasons! As for Karev I give him about a week before he's jumping into bed with new girl Reid, seems like this is where the story is going. Katherine's taking another leave of absence so no Iz for a while again, perfect for Alex to move on! Should have known their marriage wouldn't last five minutes, this show has no respect for the sanctity of marriage. Infidelity, adultery and the lack of morals seems to be what this show is all about!
15I'm kinda on the fence about this episode. Izzie definitely became a bit bossy EVEN though she was the one that left.
I'm really tiring of the Chief. He's definitely become so sour since the merger with West and Seattle Grace. There are times when I've hated him but no where near as much as now. It's his own damn fault his hospital is a wreck and he needs to quit projecting it onto Derek or Bailey or even his patients.
16aw man! I didn't know about sloan's daughter! that would've been a nice twist....
17I don't really know if it's actually sloan's daughter- that is what the previews want you to believe but if you saw the previews this "daughter" looks like a woman that is close in age to Lexi. The previews for Grey's are always a bit cloudy.
18Was anyone else kind of sad to see the chief's story take the turn that it did? I'll admit he's been pretty unbearable for awhile now...but in the beginning he was kind of fatherly and likeable Oh well...I'm hoping greys can get their groove back. So far some of the new characters have been great and others...not so much! I just wish this show could be consistently good and not just rely on 2 or 3 really good episodes each season!
19My fave part has to be the cafeteria scenes - both attendings and residents...that might be the first attendings cafeteria scene...very funny and entertaining!
20Ok first off i would like to say that as soon as they mentioned the Chief making a mistake with the surgery i was thinking "well, guess hes gonna be leaving soon" i just knew it was coming up. Didnt think it would be in THIS episode but oh well...LOVE LOVE LOVE . the new cardio doctor. I had a feeling that her and Hunt had "history" together..im interested in seeing how this storyline is going to go.
21I thought that the chief had fallen off the wagon a while ago and that is why he has been so odd the past 5 episodes or so. With all of the flashbacks it makes sense bc he has been off his game due to the drinking/hangovers, etc. Makes sense why he clipped the person's bile duct.
22izzie pissed me off to no end in this ep. she acts like she's entitled but she sooo isn't. ugh!
chief- blah. kim raver- yay!
i need more cafeteria scenes. kthxbai!
23Does anyone know who sings the song at the end of the episode? I think it is absolutely beautiful and I can't find it on google.
24The song playing at the end of the episode is 'Poison and Wine' by The Civil Wars.
