Stop me if you've heard this one before — Katherine Heigl is going to be leaving Grey's Anatomy for the second time this season. Though Izzie returns to Seattle Grace/Mercy West on tonight's episode (just in time for the arrival of Kim Raver), Heigl is set to take a belated maternity leave next year to spend time with her newly adopted daughter.
I'm all for spending quality time with family, but this seems a bit suspect — especially given how many times we've heard rumors of Heigl's desire to leave the show. At this point, I feel like Heigl should just call it quits and keep her focus on her movie career; it would also be a perfect time for Izzie to make an easy exit from Grey's now that she's been fired.
Do you still love Izzie or do you wish Heigl would just let her go already? Sound off in the comments and be sure to check out the Grey's Anatomy McAddicts Group in the Buzz Community!

This is ridiculous, and terrible for the story. All of these phone calls to Izzy to try to keep her in the mix - please! It's terrible. Just cut her loose, already.
1I love her, but yes, I agree...it's time for her to leave Grey's.
2Honestly, the show has been better without her the last few weeks. It is time for her to move on.
3Buh-bye!
4See ya later, Izzie. Personally, I don't think she's a fantastic actress (she plays the same character, basically, in every movie), so if KH disappeared herself I would not be too upset.
5I am sure she would leave if she had a choice - but she is contracted and that decision is ABC's. She is a big name and no way do they want her to leave which is why they have compromised and she has been allowed time to film her movie etc. I think the show can only suffer as a result of her absence as she is a wonderful actress. But it will survive without her for sure.
6Shonda, isnt it about time you did a "killer" patient on the loose storyline? cmon its a good one, Man gets brought in, injured from a car accident, there was a DOA on the scene "thought" to be his passenger but IT WASNT, she was IN THE TRUNK already dead and before everyone realized it he pushes Izzy down the stairs to her death.....its plausible.
7Even if she wanted to quit - which she has never said she does - the press have been going on about it since Season 2 - when Denny died and Heigl had her first big movie success with Knocked Up. Yet 4 seasons later she is still there. Get over it folks - she isn't leaving. I think now she probably would move if she had a choice but like MillyN said she is contracted and ABC will not let their star name go.
8I think they have let other characters go and they wish they could come back at times (Burke, George,Denny etc.). I think they should get rid of Izzie and focus on other characters maybe bringing her back from time to time for soem episodes. I mean she isn't a doctor at the Seattle Grace anymore but she has close ties to those who are and just like we only see the Cheif's wife from time to time couldn't we just see that with Izzie?
9At this point, she can go...now they have enough other characters to concentrate and spread storylines on. More Christina! yay!
10Of course she should be allowed to take a parental leave! Family bonding is more important than a storyline. Everyone here seems more concerned about the show than a mother's right to take care of her young child. No wonder Americans have such crappy parental leave. Yes I know I'll get nasty comments for that but that's OK. I'll read them on my one year mat leave that starts in a couple of weeks.
11Lately, I've kind of missed seeing Izzie..but meh.. we'd survive if she left for good. Besides, I'm not the hugest fan of Katherine Heigl.
12CaterpillarGirl - I like that idea.
13It's time for Izzie to go. Yeah KH should spend time with her daughter. But there, gone, there, gone, it's too much. They should get let her go, that way they could focus more on the show drama and storylines, rather than Izzie/KH drama queen stuff.
Just funny how people will make excuses for a woman that has gotten pregnant and is on mat leave as opposed to one who adopts. Would it be different if KH had gotten pregnant and was taking maternity leave?
KH has said multiple times that she and her husband expected the adoption to take years, so it was just a coincidence that she got Nayleigh this year when she's already taken some time off.
14Still really love Izzie! Alex needs Izzie - there is so much potential story to explore for both characters individually and together! Both actors are amazing, whether they are enacting a dramatic moment or portraying subtle nuances of character and relationship.
15The chemistry of Alex and Izzie together is electrifying!
Still really love Izzie - her presence makes the show for me!
izzie is why i watch the show so seeing her leave would be sad but eventually they all would have to go. i read ella and patrick are renewing their contracted at the end of season 7
16See ya
17I'm sure there would be some backlash if she left the show, but I agree. The show would survive without her. I mean it did ok with that guy who played Burke and it seems to be doing ok without George. I'd miss her but the show would survive.
18I would like to see her stay on the show, but the writers need to come up with a better explanation for Izzy's absence. Missing her treatments and ignoring her husband's pleas are terrible storylines. Alex is suffering with no word from her and this is how their marriage is starting?? She could be away but treat everyone with respect while Katherine does her mommy and baby time!
19If she left wouldn't miss her.
20Peace Out Katherine Heigl. I love your movies but Izzie is annoying
21Agreed with Zivanod. I don't think it's suspicious at ALL that she would want to spend time with her newly adopted special needs little girl. Wasn't she filming on her original hiatus? She hasn't taken a real break yet, and an international special needs adoption...she needs to connect with her child now, not doing long TV shoots. Seriously, not suspect timing at all. If her and her daughter don't bond in the first few months, it's going to be rough going her whole childhood.
22I am also liking the show a lot better without her!
23I don't like where the writers are going with the Izzie storyline. At this point, I think all the fans knows she's essentially no longer a part of the show and they're struggling to keep her in it.
24Izzie was my favorite character until season 3. After Denny died, it seemed like the writers didn't know what to do with her character, and she spiraled into weird situations that were very 'un-Izzie'-like. Sleeping with George? And he was married? Totally out of character. The Denny hallucinations, crazy as well. I loved her, but the character has been destroyed.
25annebreal, this is KH's second leave of absence this season — the first was to film a movie with Josh Duhamel, but it wasn't during the regular hiatus, that's why she was missing in action for like five episodes after she got fired.
26I always liked Izzie but I haven't missed her once since she's been away. I just wish they would sort Alex out with someone who love him & not break his heart!
