It's a party on this week's The Vampire Diaries for Stefan's birthday, but it's hardly a cake and merriment fest. Our broody hero finally gets a chance to smile, but of course, it's taken away from him quickly.
Ready to chat about the good, the bad, and the bloody? Watch out for spoilers when you read more.
- The Good
- Stefan's girl BFF Lexi comes to town to give Stefan a proper 162nd birthday party, and she's a tough-talkin', sexy badass of a vampire. Can you believe that Arielle Kebbel is the same girl who played Lindsay on Gilmore Girls? In the preview, she seemed like a rival for Stefan's affections, but that's not the case at all; she's his (literally) oldest friend and apparently brings out the fun-loving beast in Stefan (hey writers, can we please get some flashback scenes of the good times with Lexi? That would be awesome). She also talks some sense into Elena, encouraging her not to ignore her real feelings for Stefan. Amen. Did you catch that very brief shot of Stefan with his shirt off? Elena could have just seen that and been convinced, but I guess Lexi's soul mate talk works too.
- Bad boy Damon proves that he's not softening like I thought he was; his diabolical master plan includes pursuing Caroline's sheriff mother and pretending to help in the vampire hunt. He also engineers the demise of yet another character (more about that in The Bloody rundown), which is heartless and shocking, to say the least.
- Bonnie and her awesome Grams make an appearance, apparently having had a sleepover/feather floating lesson. Grams explains that her necklace is her talisman and it chose her, which becomes even more obvious when it also shocks Caroline when she tries to snag it back for Damon. I was disappointed when I thought that was the extent of what we'd see of Bonnie and her witchery this week — until the very end, when Bonnie has a disturbing nightmare featuring her ancestor Emily Bennett and then actually wakes up in the cemetery near the Salvatore family grave. Spooky.
- The Bad
- Are we supposed to be rooting for Caroline and Matt to get together? I thought it was sweet and all for Matt to take care of Caroline and cuddle her when she's drunk, but I feel like we haven't been given enough to be invested in Matt. Sure, I feel for him losing his sister, but he and Caroline are still side characters to me, so I'm not excited about their pairing quite yet.
- The Bloody
- I knew something was up when Damon briefly leaves the party and attacks two amorous teens so blatantly; turns out, he pins that attack and all the previous ones on Lexi, supposedly to get the hunting squad off of him and Stefan.
- I gasped audibly once again during this episode when the second vampire was killed in as many weeks. Even though Vicki was a more prominent character than Lexi was, I was still completely shocked that Damon stakes her so mercilessly. I really liked her character and loved that for once, someone could overpower Damon. I have a feeling that her little domination of him in the beginning of the episode had something to do with how easily he kills her, but it's still such a horrible thing to do to Stefan. I thought that the small part of Damon that's still human harbors a love for his brother, but I can't believe how deeply he's willing to hurt him.
- Heartbroken over the murder of his friend, Stefan tells Elena he has to kill Damon. Which means: vampire fight! But Stefan can't do it; he just sticks the wooden stake in Damon's torso to hurt, but not destroy, him. Well, yeah, he's a star of the show. He can't go anywhere! And Stefan wants to spare him, blah, blah, blah.
From the looks of the preview, I definitely thought this week would just be a filler episode, but it managed to keep up the pace of last week's super intense and amazing "Haunted." A couple more things to think about: Lexi brings up an interesting point — Katherine and Elena look so alike, they could be related. This is a small town with residents whose roots go deep; could they be related? It's an interesting thought. Also, the best way to end an episode is a ghostly Emily Bennett telling Bonnie "It's coming." What's coming? Ack, it's so ominous and exciting, I can't wait to find out what it means! Another phenomenal episode! They keep having these shocking endings that make this show SO amazing! I'm really sad they killed Lexi cause she was so awesome, but I'm glad to see a Bianca Lawson (a Buffy alum)!!!
1It was incredible! I'm seriously loving this show a lot. I literally gasped out loud when Damon stabbed Lexi. That was intense. I think Vampire Diaries was really underestimated as it began the season, but now it is really starting to pick up. I hope to see some earlier scenes with Stefan and Lexi.
Also I had watch the trailer over and over to finally realize that it was Arielle Kebbel, why does she look so different?
Looking forward to next week
2So in order for Stefan to over power Damon during their fight... did he have to drink some real blood?? Something to think about.
Glad there was less Jeremy this episode!
I've read the books, so its interesting to see the characters they add or how the back story is changed. I'm happily surprised to see where this show is going.
3This show jest gets better and better! It makes my Thursdays. I was so sad the Damon staked Lexi! She really brought out the fun side in Stefan. And can we PLEASE get more shirtless Stefan!?!?! From what I can gather, he really needs to stop trying to cover up! LOL
4i knew that damon wanted to frame lexie after he didn't kill the girl in the alley, but i thought the police would lock down the place until day light and make every come out and lexie burns in the sun. i thought this because lexie mentioned how stefan and damon are the only ones with the rings that protect them from the sun lol.. but this ws good too
love vampire diaries ! characters are more interesting than twilight and we get it on a
weekly basis wooooot
5This show is incredible! I will definitely be buying the DVD as soon as it comes out! I love the scene where Damon brings the vervaine to the sherrif, and his eyes have that crazy glow! I was definitely surprised as well when he staked Lexi - it was so soon for her to die! I didn't care for Matt and Caroline getting together, but I guess it was sweet. It was so creepy when Damon said that he taken away all of Elena's brothers "suffering,"does that mean he's just a shell now without any deeper emotions? At first I thought he was doing something beneficial, but I guess it's part of his diabolical plan. I liked seeing Stephan smile, and the way he talked about Elena was really genuine. I'd love to see how Elena and Katherine are related, and maybe get some more information on how Stephan "found" Elena. I've always assumed he saw a picture in the paper about Elena's parent's death, and immediately came back to Mystic Falls because Elena looks just like Katherine.
I'm so involved with this show and so impressed by the writing!!
6I just can't get enough! I definitely can't wait to see some flashbacks of Stefan and Damon turning into vampires, and what happened to Katherine.
Also, I'm not sure why, but I'm really not that interested in Bonnie's story. I guess it will be much more interesting once we find out how the witches relate to the vampires (hoping next week's episode includes that), but for now I just want to see more Damon, Sefan and Elena.
7And by the way, who else thought the scene where Stefan realized he loves Elena was absolutely precious! Man, I almost cried.
8my damn cable company changed channels and my dvr did not record! AWWWW! I hope they replay it on Wednesday so I get a chance to watch it! It sounds like it was good!
9Another great episode!
10@care0531 cw.com has full ep's avail so you can catch last night's ep
i am way more into this show than i'd like to admit... also really pissed they killed off lexi so soon. i enjoyed her character and definitely liked how she overpowered damon. the whole feather scene was plain cheese though. good grief.
and YES MORE SHIRTLESS STEFAN PLEASE. my jaw dropped when i saw that. cw, why tease us?!
11Why Damon why! I liked Lexy.
12OH EM GEE! This episode was one heck of a ride indeed!
Damon unleashing his bad side again, killing of a character I started to like but first hated because I thought she was a rival for Stefan. (Guess not anymore)
Then there's Stefan revealing that he really truly loves Elena. AWWW that was dang sweet indeed!
Anyway, I think that they did put a great point on whether Elena might be realted to Katherine, I'd be glad to see some more of Katherine, I like her feistiness hahaha!
In total: Vampire Diaries is turning out to be one of the best shows I've ever watched for quite a while! It's on a weekly basis too and the characters are all spunk and hot and somehow manipulative in capturing out attention.
And the writers? Talk about geniuses!
This episode was also sharp and surprising, so unpredictable I get annoyed sometimes, in a good way of course:D
13SO yes, let's bask in this episode and hope that it'll get better and better.
P.S: I do not care whether Matt and CAroline get together, they are just side characters to me. And with Bonnie, well what the heck just go with whatever she has now, just as long as its good enough to be realted to the Salvatores and Elena!
I meant related instead of realted
14cheers!
I also love this show. It keeps getting better and better which is great. It was kind of tame at first and I feared it to be a little to immature, but the last two episodes have shown that not to be the case. It's funny though, I see a lot of similarities between Edward Cullen and Stefan in how they act and speak. They both have those tortured/pained eyes and expressions that seems to come from loving a human girl.
I think they might be putting Matt and Caroline together to sort of wrap them up and put them to the side as they really aren't needed much. I don't care either way. Caroline is annoying.
I was completely shocked when Stefan staked Vikki, although I knew something was gonna happen when she attacked Elena.
As for Damon, I can't help but hate and love him at the same time. He's pure evil and I hate how he continually hurts Stefan, but he's just so darned charming and handsome. I really thought Stefan was going to kill him, but I can see how hard it is for him even with how much he hates what Damon is doing. I'd really hate to see Damon leave the show, so maybe something will happen to him that will make him curb his evilness.
