It's a sad day for the musical world as we bid adieu to one of the finest operatic singers, Luciano Pavarotti, who died today at age 71. His accomplishments in the realm of classical music are many, and not the least of these is how he made opera music more accessible to people who might not otherwise be exposed to it.
Indeed, the most bittersweet thing about remembering the big, sweet-faced tenor is how willing he was to collaborate with all sorts of musicians, combining his warm, booming voice with those of well-known rock, soul and pop artists. Everyone from Bono and Queen to James Brown and the Spice Girls have shared the stage with the legendary singer. He clearly had a love for music in all its manifestations and his presence will be missed.

He really made opera recognizable to everyone. People who weren't very familiar with opera could instantly note his voice on the radio. That is just testament to how popular and beloved he was to everyone. We will miss you Luciano.
1As a classical music and opera lover and as someone who has recently lost my precious father to this horrible, horrible cancer, I am deeply affected by this loss. I'm sure that Pavarotti is joining the choirs in heaven this day....the voice of an angel amongst the angels.
2I was so sad to hear of his death. My mom is a huge opera fan and passed on the love to me. I quite literally grew up listening to his voice.
RIP, Luciano Pavarotti. You are gone but never forgotten.
3My family is Italian, and I called home and my grandparents are torn up! He was a beautiful singer and a lovely person and it's sad to see him go so (relatively anymore, anyway) young.
4Such sad news. My dad had the pleasure of working with Pavarotti at the Kennedy Center on one of their Operas. He had such a commanding presence. My dad's father passed away from the same type of cancer, so this is very hard news. He will be missed.
5I LOVE the Barry White collaboration. That song is one the best songs ever.
6RIP

11So sad - we have lost a truly amazing voice and man!
12It is really sad. Besides having a great voice, he was an excellent man, always very fun.
