Hey, "On the Lot": You could take some lessons on how to make an interesting finale from "So You Think You Can Dance." This week, we got two hours chock-full of dancing, with a ton of strong routines that I think will make it very hard to predict the winner.

The weakest couples routine of the night, I thought, was Sabra and Neil's hip-hop — and even that was hardly "bad." It just seemed a little dance-recital-ish, especially Neil with his funny smiley faces. My favorite, on the other hand, was Lacey and Danny's waltz. I typically don't enjoy watching waltzes or any of the slower ballroom dances on TV, but this was an exception; it seemed so dynamic, and Lacey shocked me by being toned down and almost demure.
The other two couples performances fell somewhere in between for me. Lacey and Neil's lindy hop was fun, but there were a few places where I could see them struggling with some of the lifts and tricks (and was anyone else missing the crazy lindy hop couple from the auditions during that? I bet they would have been great). Meanwhile, after getting my hopes up that the Sabra/Danny pairing would be a dream, I was a little underwhelmed by their cha cha, which seemed to go to a weird, dark, 1980s sort of place during the strobe light section.
But I was more intrigued by the solos and the Lacey/Sabra and Danny/Neil pairings, so read more
The thing that surprised me most about the Lacey/Sabra and Danny/Neil routines was how differently the judges reacted to them. Lacey and Sabra's "foxes in the forest" dance was weird, it's true, but I thought it was beautiful and oddly moving. Their dancing was completely in sync, and every one of their moves was in character. Yet the judges said the routine didn't show off either one of them at their best, and Nigel was particularly harsh, saying he couldn't say much about them besides things like "Sabra nuzzled well." Meanwhile, Neil and Danny also had a character-filled routine that found them sitting in chairs for a good portion of it, and the judges were much more enthusiastic. I thought both routines were interesting and challenging, and I'm not sure why there was such a rift in how the judges saw things.
As for the solos, Lacey showed a drastic improvement over her other solo outings, proving that she can really hold her own on stage without a partner to flirt with; even her mugging for the camera was minimal (though I thought the stage-faint into the crowd was a little much). Neil pulled out his normal tricks, but I agreed with the judges that his dancing in between the tricks was much better than we've ever seen it. Danny was Danny, stunning as usual. Sabra, though, disappointed me somewhat; I expected to be moved by her solo performance, and instead, I thought it was merely good.
So where does that leave us for picking the winner? I wouldn't have said this a couple of weeks ago, but I think the title could be Danny's. We got to see so much personality from him last night, and his dancing is spectacular. Sabra was my pick up until last night, but I don't think she was up to her usual standard in the finale. Lacey, on the other hand, moved up several notches for me, showing some more dimension than what I was expecting. And Neil ... is Neil, and I like him, but I'd be surprised to see him win.
What do you think? Favorites of the night? Least-faves? And who's your final pick to win?

Sabra seriously got shafted in the two routines with the boys I'm sorry but I wasn't impressed by any of the dances. I was disappointed especially after all the brilliant dancing of last week. It had the spark of a damp squib. Frankly it was LE SUCK!!!
1Lol nyaradzom...I agree with you in that this finale wasn't as amazing as last week's completely strong performances. I still thought it was fun to watch and what not, but I could totally see how tired they were and even some of them mentioned it in the interviews. Each of the 4 had to learn 4 dances w/a partner and also don't forget the opening routine dance as well. I felt all the dances were a bit rushed b/c of this, but I really did like the Lacey and Danny pairing. Also I liked Lacey and Sabra, and although odd I found it really beautiful. I totally disagree with the judges on that one. Lookin forward to tonight!
2As much as he has improved, I don't think Neil stands a chance, unless every twelve year old in the country voted. I don't want Lacey to win just because I don't think she's really proved that she deserves to be at the top. Her solos seem generic and I basically see her as a female Benji (I also don't think he should've won either but whatever...). I've loved Sabra since the very beginning and would love for her to win. Before last night, I would have most definitely pegged her as the winner, but like Buzz stated, Danny moved up on my list after last night. There was just something, I don't know, different about him. I think all the crap about calling him arrogant and whatnot was pointless jibberjabber that just took the focus away from his dancing and caused unnecessary drama. I think he's a fantastic dancer that was just lacking a little bit in the personality department. Not anymore, though.
3And I think it'd be fantastic to Travis' brother win, and beat out Benji's sister. Sweet, sweet revenge!
I think Lacey is going to win.
4If not is bet. Neil and Danny
i thought the finale was ehh.. compared to last years finale. the routines didn't seem as dynamic or exciting this year. but i digress. i was shocked during sabra & neil's hip hop routine. i thought it was pretty bad. they didn't look sexy at all, they were smiling the entire time! and they def. were not hitting it very hard (mary murphy's fav line) and like the judges said, i was disappointed sabra didn't bring it.
i too thought that sabra/lacey's wade routine was odd, but i thought it was really interesting. they moved so beautifully together. i thought the judges were totally harsh on the girls and wade (nigel totally ripped wade a new one!).
lacey and danny were the 2 that really did it for me last night. their solos were great (major points for danny on all those amazing turns) and their partnering performances were awesome. but if i had to pick a winner based on the entire season, the winner would definitely be SABRA!!
5I think Sabra should definitely win. She has proven to be the most versatile and strong WEEK after WEEK. I think she got the short end of the stick with the choreography this week but she still managed to shine. I agree, Danny is fantastic, technical God, but this is about shining in every aspect and that is Sabra.
6I sure hope it'll be Danny, if not then Sabra
By the way, I also found the fox dance
to be beautiful...
7I'm starting to think that maybe Danny might win, and it kills me, because then there will be disappoint if he doesn't. Oh why do I get emotionally involved? :S
I also was disappointed by the judges' harsh responses to Wade's fox routine. The "I don't get it" reaction was similar to how they criticized Mia's futuristic goggles dance to "Let the drummer kick," which I loved. I really really hope that this won't mean that next season choreographers will be discouraged from experimenting with their routines (Nigel being executive producer and all). I love it when Mia and Wade are brave and push the boundaries into artistic territory- it makes the show so much more interesting.
8I can't wait. I would like to see Lacey to win.
9LACEY ALL THE WAY!! =D
10i hope sabra wins, but i can definitely settle for danny. i really don't want lacey to win. she just bothers me for some reason...
11i agree with everyone here except for the whole "lacey for the win." i kid i kid, actually i was very surprise of her last night, she won me over and in the beginning i didn't like her merely because she already had a huge fan base coming from her brother, benji, which i thought was unfair to the rest of the contestants.
i was also disapponited at how harsh the judges were. i hope that mia and wade don't get discourage by the judges' "stupidity" and continue to experience dance routines. i say stupidity because hello there were other ways to judge the routine instead of "oh i didn't like it so i'm not going to say anything." PLUS HOW DID THEY DON'T GET IT! the red clothe in lacey's mouth was obviously meat or a dead rabbit in how she carried it and presented it to sabra. i though the wardrobe, movement and music were beautiful.
lastly...danny did impress me the most. i can watch him twirl/dance all day so i do hope he wins, if not sabra. the whole arrogance drama was just taking away from his performace. and adam, director of hairspray and the judge who brought it up, should know better considering he does deal with great dancers in his profession who i'm sure are genuinely arrogant than danny.
AND IM DONE. LOL.
12I blogged on this a bit, but here's my take on last night's show...
Group routine: Hated the song, but the dancing was great.
Solos: Lacey's was okay though I hated her outfit, Sabra's was good but didn't show the range she has, Danny's was a joke (I know that it can be hard to do all those jumps, but not for him, and that's really all he did), Neil's I don't even remember so that's how much it impressed me.
My favorite couple routine was Lacey/Neil: LINDY HOP IS HARD! I don't care that Lacey knows swing. Lindy hop is an 8-count and she does 6-count. They are way different dances and for her and NEIL to pick it up and do those moves well (I did notice slip-ups, but only because I knew how a lot of those moves were supposed to look) is just awesome. The lifts were well executed, the partnering was exactly what Nigel demanded, the costumes were cute, and IT WAS FUN TO WATCH.
Second favorite was Lacey/Sabra: Those judges were on crack, because the girls were so on-tempo they looked like they'd been rehearsing for months.
13Danny or Lacey. That waltz was so pretty! Sabra is a great dancer but her personality seems a little less engaging than the others.
14The judges comments on the fox dance totally bugged me. It was different, but I thought it was really good. Actually, I thought it was much better than Neil and Danny's. They were sitting for much too long.
Sabra has been so good the rest of the season, I think she still has a good shot. If she doesn't win, I think it will be Danny.
15Danny is a BRILLIANT dancer.
(Also loved the foxes routine.)
16Completely agree with pinkflats! But Adam Shankman is a douche who came across from the first moment to me as the arrogant one. Somewhat of a non-sequitur, but: Did anyone else notice he was clearly out of his head on drugs when he last guest-judged? His hands were shaking and his whole demeanor = I do cocaine and I do it a lot. It really irritated me because these kids are working so hard and there's a lot at stake for them but he couldn't be a professional about his responsibilities.
17i'm glad other folks liked the fox routine too! =) i hope the judges comments didn't influence any of the voters. i still voted for Sabra!!!
18I think that Wade's foxy jazz routine would make an excellent ballet, performed in clothing from Jeffrey Sebelia's winning collection on last season's Project Runway. Both seem to be heavily inspired by Japanese ghost stories, and I love them both far more than most people.
19The fox routine was amazing... I actually teared up at the end. I'm pissed at the judges for being so dismissive about it. I hope they watched it back and apologized.
20is it just me, or does Lacey look cross-eyed in the picture?
