Rumors have been swirling for the past week or so that Johnny Depp isn't as excited about Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides now that former head honcho Dick Cook has left Disney studios. Depp is still attached to the project for now, but supposedly Disney is already preparing to search for his replacement if necessary.
The character wouldn't be recast, but the new challenge will be finding an actor and fictional pirate worthy of Depp's Jack Sparrow. It's hard to even imagine someone else with the same mix of swagger and comedic timing, but hey — if Depp could create one memorable pirate, who's to say that another brilliant actor can't follow suit?
I could see Robert Downey Jr. as a pretty badass raider, and no doubt he'd have fun with the role. Who do you think should take Depp's place?

1NO ONE! Are you kidding? The movie would instantly bomb, no one else should replace Captain Jack Sparrow. If Johnny Depp wants out, I would hope they leave his character as a legacy and introduce a new, awesome pirate.
2They need to leave this franchise alone. Johnny or no Johnny the 3 movies are good, they should leave it at that.
3I agree that they shouldn't do another movie. Although, Robert Downey Jr would make a good pirate! It's just no one would appreciate it without Johnny on screen as well.

They didn't even need to make the 2 sequels IMO. The first one was great and I loved it, and then we got 2 way too long movies with stupid plots and stupid action sequences that weren't even entertaining. Just stop Disney!
7i think that they should just scrap the whole thing if he's not going to be in it. who else would do the character justice? no one really. either it would be a jim carrey type who would go overboard with it or someone that just wouldn't have the same penache.
8No one else can be Jack Sparrow. But I ike the Robert Downey Jr. idea. He just needs to be a completely different pirate.
9The 2nd and 3rd movies were too long and were not great, actually they should have stopped at the first one. Now I am just tired of them all. Johnny Depp should just call it quits and get out of it altogether. He's never going to beat the success and the love the fans gave to the first film. There is only so many times one should play a drunk pirate playing a baffoon. Johnny is so above all that now. The only other actor I know of with enough charisma, exuberence,stunt training, and personality to pull it off would be Robert Downey Jr. and he would never do it. He would already realize the role is Johnny and Johnny's alone. Robert Downey Jr. is too sophisticated and intelligent to do it, when it belongs to someone else. He might be willing to play someone else, but never Jack Sparrow. I think it would be great to see the two play brothers at some point-now that would be worth seeing.

11Ugh, it's a terrible idea to make the movie if Johnny isn't in it. The first one was great, but they deteriorated from there - the third one was terrible! Why are they making a fourth one anyway? I say scrap it if Johnny bails. No one can replace him. It would just be an imitation of his performance, and it would be awful.

No one! Johnny Depp is Captain Jack Sparrow. Disney should quit while they're ahead and keep the POTC movies as a trilogy.

20I agree, they shouldn't do it without him. I love him! The first movie was brilliant, the second two were good..Johnny made then brilliant.
21The only reason the Pirates movie were AS successful as they were was because of Johnny Depp. I don't another actor could fill his shoes, they just leave the franchise alone. Besides, the first movie is the only good one. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush made the other two movies watchable.
22No reason to waste time and money to replace an ICON. No one will see it without Johnny, not even the most die hard Pirates fans. Disney sure blew it by getting rid of Dick Cook...they lost more than a loyal chairman- they apparently lost their most profitable franchise as well.

24I agree with the first commentor here!. The movie should not be made if Johnny Depp is not in the fourth movie that is entitled as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides!. I mean thats just total common sense!. Everyone by now is aware of the fact that there is not point in making a Pirates of the Caribbean movie with out Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow!.
