Melrose Place: Who's Who in the Old/New Continuum
Even though I knew it was coming, I gasped when Jane (Josie Bissett) was shown in the promo for next week's episode of
Melrose Place. Along with the announcement that
Heather Locklear will be bringing Amanda Woodward back to life for a guest role this season, and the Michael/Sydney flashbacks of this week, the new
Melrose Place show is sure feeling like old times. What else feels like old times? The fact that each new character seems somewhat . . . familiar. Every young resident seems to be inspired to be an original one, so I've paired up who I think coordinates with whom.

The show has been off the air not even 10 years, so how do these people have children that are my age? I mean, I know its a tv show, but that just is dumb.
Atleast on 90210 Silver would be like 16ish
1Briandiesel--the logistics confound me too (on Gossip Girl too). I do have a theory about David, though...but it might make me look like an old Melrose Place geek. As for Violet being Sydney's daughter, I'm betting she has no memory of it because it was some kind of shady situation that happened when she was young. Sydney had a crazy life, so I figure that's how they'll explain the age thing.
2Haha! I would love to hear your theory
3I was obsessed with the old Melrose so I'm sure I'd know what you are talking about!
Poor Syd probably did pop Violet out at the age of 12. haha
OK since you watched the old one too, here goes: Jake actually had a son named David that he discovered during the show (Note: I didn't remember that, I was reminded of it on 90210pedia). Eventually he left to raise the son with the mother, his ex girlfriend. Doesn't it just seem too coincidental that this new character, also a son of someone from the old Melrose, is also named David--and Michael, too, didn't know about David for a while? So my theory is that these Davids are the same, something happened to Jake, and Michael did Jake some sort of favor by posing as David's dad and supporting him. What do you think, am I totally crazy?
4Ooh that's sounds like a pretty good theory actually, I wouldn't have thought about it, can't wait to find out if it's right or not!
5I had actually forgotten about that! I hated the chick that played David's mom. haha
6That actually is a really good theory, Buzz! I wonder if the producers of the new MP even realized any of that!?
...although if something happened to me, and I was Jake, I don't think the first person I'd call to step in as the dad for my son would be Michael Mancini. lol!!
I LOVE the new Melrose Place. It's so fun. Then again, I was too young to appreciate the original series.
7This one has everything...20 somethings like me, playing 20 somethings like me!
Well not quite like me, but a soapier, more scandalous version!
See, I originally thought that the "David" character was Michael and Taylor's son (remember that whole debacle when Taylor was pregnant and she didn't know who the father was -- it was between Michael, Kyle, and his old marine buddy, Nick -- and Michael lied and told her the test results revealed that it was Nick's baby?), but A) "David" is too old to be that baby from then, and B) the picture David shows of his mom is not Taylor.
Either way, when the show first started, I thought it was way lame. But, the cliff hangers at the end kept me coming back every week. Some of my friends still seem to think that the new Melrose Place is bad. I feel otherwise. I love it! =)
Also, I definitely see the resemblances when it comes to the old and new characters as shown above.... especially with Jonah and Riley/Billy and Alison, Sidney and Violet, Auggie and Jake, and Amanda and Ella. It stood out to me right away.
I am SO glad MP is back! =D
