She's tackled pregnant teens, monster teens, and now Diablo Cody is going for . . . sweet teens? Yes, the dialogue diva herself has been tapped to produce and direct an adaptation of the Sweet Valley High books.
Even though the manufactured slang in Jennifer's Body started to get to me, I'm interested to see what Cody does with the beloved books. I read a lot of the series (and even watched the TV show), and I'm happy to see the books get revived in the pop-culture domain, even if it does involve Jessica telling Elizabeth that she's "Jello, so lime-green Jello."
UPDATE: Diablo herself replied to my tweet about made-up slang with "Thinking I might play it straight." There ya have it!

Loved the Valley high books but when will Hollywood start putting out something original. Now all it is, is: spin-off's, remakes, adaptations, sequels, and prequels. But I guess because people watch all these shows, they're keep turning them out.
1OMG, when I was younger, all I did was read about the Wakefield Twins. Can't wait!!
2man, those girls were crazy in high school ! I remember reading those books and feeling very ... scandelous ! the middle school ones were much more tame.
3I used to love to read those books
4I used to love those books!
5wasn't there already a show based on the books? i remember that my next door neighbor used to read all the books and i finally got into them later in the game, and well - i guess they had their place in society. just not sure about a movie at this point. it's like bringing back 'the babysitters club'
6ohhh I love those books (and the show), I can't wait!
7Wooh, I loved those books too! Is it a movie or a tv series?
8man you got me wanting to dig some out and start reading them again! I even had a Sweet Valley High board game! LOL.
9I loved these books and the babysitters club!
I loved this book too!! Yes there was a TV series, I think I saw one on youtube or something.
10I disliked this series I thought it would be like the middle school editions (I only read a few of those I think) and I picked one up the gay subject matter and it made me uncomfortable. Partly because I was so young...but it was sooo white too. I liked the show a bit and read a college one but I hate that I ever read them, I think they are pretty stupid and I don't think this Diablo Cody movie will do well. I almost hope it doesn't. Those books should die out!
11I will say they did alright matching up Diablo Cody to this particular series it suits her I guess, especially if it's as "scandalous" as some imply. Otherwise, I DO think she is overrated and annoying.
12i loved the girls who played them on the TV series
13they were so beautiful (or so i thought at the time)
Look right down in a crowded hall,
you see there's a beauty standing.
Is she really everywhere or,
a reflection?
One always calls out to you.
The other's shy and quiet.
Could there be two different girls who
look the same at
Sweeet Valley Sweeet Valley
Hiiiiiiigh
(Sweet Valley)
Sweeet Valley Sweeet Valley
Hiiiiiiigh
(Sweet Valley)
Sweeet Valley Sweeet Valley

(Sweet Valley)
Hey hey hey hey
(All from memory, might be wrong)
...Too young for the books, sort of watched the show. But man, was that one killer theme song.
14I LOVED Sweet Valley High when I was younger! I read all the books (middle school, high school, college, family sagas, the revamped high school books, etc.) and even watched the show. It will be interesting to see what Diablo Cody brings to the table.
15omg, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED those books!
This is the movie I never knew I always wanted to be made.
16Haha I used to read this series. I wonder what DC's interpretation of SVH will be like!
17Heck yes!!! I only read a few of the high school ones, but I read all of the Sweet Valley Twins (middle scool), Unicorn Club (spin off of middle school), family sagas, & secret diaries. I'll be excited to see how she takes this on
18I read the Sweet Valley Twins series, but my mother never let me read the high school series, and for good reason.
Hopefully Diablo will write a great script
19Actually I wouldn't mind them re-doing Baby Sitters Club while they're at it. I loved that series and felt very disappointed with the movie.
20I'd like to see them redo the BSC too. I didn't like the movie either, but I thought the TV show was a good adaptation of the books.
I'd love to see a Sweet Valley High movie. Although honestly, the book plots that stayed with me were the thriller ones like the one where a girl was trying to SWF Elizabeth and the histories of the twins' relatives.
21I loved these books and was so excited when they made a tv series. I am so excited about the potential for a movie!
22Hahah! The other day I was suddenly seized by a Sweet Valley insanity and started looking up the old book cover illustrations(like the one above) online and just lived out my youthful days of when I wished my world had been as awesome and beautiful as the Wakefields. I will deffinately see this movie!
23I'm scared. I hope she realizes that the made up slang is more annoying than anything else.
24I loved sweet valley high.I liked the books and even the show but seriously how are they going to make it into a 2 hour movie.I just don't see it.I think Diablo is overrated now.
25I Loved those books. I use to read them 24/7 when I was younger. I would stay up all night reading them, It got so bad that my mom would take my books away at night so I would go to sleep.
26I didn't know there were books but I watched the series on Sunday mornings when I was young.
27I loved Sweet Valley High! I was a big fan of the show and the books. That's all I can think of when I see either of the doublemint twin sisters in movies or tv (The Game, Ruby, Wayans Brothers Films). I'm excited about this.
28These were my Favorite books when I was young! I think I read all of them like 3 times. It is interesting that they are thinking about making a movie now though. I wonder what audience the movie will target... I wonder who will play the twins?!! Anyway, so excited!!
29I used to love reading the Sweet Valley High books when I was in middle school! Man, they were good. Like runningesq, I felt very "scandalous" reading about their exploits and adventures. I liked the spin-off series too, like the Unicorn Club and the Super Thrillers. I remember one of the thriller books, A Killer on Board, freaked me out so much that I couldn't sleep.
30I am excited about the movie...I loved the books too...My favorites were the family history ones. I didn't care for the show as much though. I wonder who will play the twins??
Now I'm just waiting for my Gilmore Girl movie to be made!!
