The new trailer for The Kite Runner has just been released, and it's already making me feel emotional. Having read the powerful novel by Khaled Hosseini, I've been waiting with a mixture of hope and fear for the movie version, directed by Marc Foster (Monster's Ball, Stranger Than Fiction, Finding Neverland). By the looks of the trailer, however, it looks like Foster might just be doing the book justice.
The story follows two childhood best friends: Amir, the son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul, and Hassan, the son of Amir's father's servant. Before Amir and his father flee to America, the boys' friendship is tested by a moment when Amir falls silent as Hassan is brutally beaten. Settled in California as an adult, this moment haunts Amir until he learns of Hassan's death at the hands of the Taliban, and returns to his homeland to search for Hassan's young son.
Opening November 2, you have plenty of time to read the book if you haven't already. To watch the trailer, read more

OMG, there's going to be a movie on this book. I love this book. Very excited for November now. Thank you!!!
This is why I like the Fall season: great movies with substance and quailty are out. With I AM LEGEND, The Golden Compass and now THIS MOVIE I think I'm going to make the movie theater my permanent home til Christmas, of course.
This book was so sad....made me feel incomplete in the end
I'm definitely looking forward to the movie. The book was so powerful; I hope the film manages to portray it accurately.
I really liked the book, but I wonder if they are going to clean up the brutal "beating"...
I had no idea they were making a movie of this. I just finished the book adn was surprised that I stuck with it and liked it since it is not the type of book I would normally read. It was so powerful and sad.
Whoa, could they have made the trailer more melodramatic? I think not. At least they used that one good line from the book, "There is a way to be good again", but I'm not too impressed.
I like the novel, but I remember reading an interview with Michael Winterbottom where he said he found the portrayal of Pakistan "bullsh*t". That made me wonder.
Kite Runner is such a phenomenal book. From the trailer, the movie appears to capture the emotional story well. Looking forward to seeing this in the Fall.
This is such a moving book!!
this looks like a really incredible movie with a lot of substance. its just the kind of movie i like to watch in the theatre.
i am always disappointed by the movies made from books i read.
I really want to see this movie! But I'll have to read the book before I go. The trailer made me teary already, I'm not sure I could handle the movie, especially since I cannot *absolutely cannot* cope with watching children (let alone adults) being harmed, emotionally or physically.
this book was amazing. it's one of my favorites. i really, really hope the film does it justice. hopefully i can watch the trailer later (damn bosses have to be in the office!)
I LOVE this book. I hope the movie does it justice
Wow this book was amazing, I am kind of disappointed that they are making it into a movie. Why do people feel the need to make every book a movie? I don't see how they could possibly come close to capturing the emotion of this book in a 2 hour long movie.
OMG! Just watching the preview makes me so emotional. I'm so attached to the book, it's at the top of my list. I can't wait to see the movie; I hope that it is as good as I hope it will be.
heck yea!!! brief mention of san jose... woooooooooooooooo lol...
Hm. I'll be interested to see how they make this into a film... it's a fantastic book, but a lot will have to be cut to make it fit into 2 hours. And let's hope they don't make it too melodramatic...
I must've missed this post a few weeks ago - I had no idea this was being made into a movie. I just read the book this past weekend and I thought it was amazing. I can't wait to see this movie now.
I saw an advanced screening of this a couple weeks ago, and it was GREAT. I read the book, and still loved the movie. I cried a few times, laughed a few times, and really enjoyed it. Remember they're two different medias, so it won't be exactly the same, but overall I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would.
I love this book. I really hope the movie doesn't disappoint...
