The new trailer for The Kite Runner has just been released, and it's already making me feel emotional. Having read the powerful novel by Khaled Hosseini, I've been waiting with a mixture of hope and fear for the movie version, directed by Marc Foster (Monster's Ball, Stranger Than Fiction, Finding Neverland). By the looks of the trailer, however, it looks like Foster might just be doing the book justice.
The story follows two childhood best friends: Amir, the son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul, and Hassan, the son of Amir's father's servant. Before Amir and his father flee to America, the boys' friendship is tested by a moment when Amir falls silent as Hassan is brutally beaten. Settled in California as an adult, this moment haunts Amir until he learns of Hassan's death at the hands of the Taliban, and returns to his homeland to search for Hassan's young son.

1This is why I like the Fall season: great movies with substance and quailty are out. With I AM LEGEND, The Golden Compass and now THIS MOVIE I think I'm going to make the movie theater my permanent home til Christmas, of course.

6Whoa, could they have made the trailer more melodramatic? I think not. At least they used that one good line from the book, "There is a way to be good again", but I'm not too impressed.
I like the novel, but I remember reading an interview with Michael Winterbottom where he said he found the portrayal of Pakistan "bullsh*t". That made me wonder.
7Kite Runner is such a phenomenal book. From the trailer, the movie appears to capture the emotional story well. Looking forward to seeing this in the Fall.

11I really want to see this movie! But I'll have to read the book before I go. The trailer made me teary already, I'm not sure I could handle the movie, especially since I cannot *absolutely cannot* cope with watching children (let alone adults) being harmed, emotionally or physically.

14Wow this book was amazing, I am kind of disappointed that they are making it into a movie. Why do people feel the need to make every book a movie? I don't see how they could possibly come close to capturing the emotion of this book in a 2 hour long movie.
15OMG! Just watching the preview makes me so emotional. I'm so attached to the book, it's at the top of my list. I can't wait to see the movie; I hope that it is as good as I hope it will be.

17Hm. I'll be interested to see how they make this into a film... it's a fantastic book, but a lot will have to be cut to make it fit into 2 hours. And let's hope they don't make it too melodramatic...
18I must've missed this post a few weeks ago - I had no idea this was being made into a movie. I just read the book this past weekend and I thought it was amazing. I can't wait to see this movie now.
19I saw an advanced screening of this a couple weeks ago, and it was GREAT. I read the book, and still loved the movie. I cried a few times, laughed a few times, and really enjoyed it. Remember they're two different medias, so it won't be exactly the same, but overall I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would.
