Doubting the thirst for vampire entertainment? The evidence is against you: last night's pilot of the The Vampire Diaries was the CW's most watched premiere ever. I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed it, but I'm not completely sold yet — I need a few more strong episodes to see if it can earn a permanent spot on my TiVo. Here were a few of my love-it-or-hate-it moments:

The Good: The guys. Though Paul Wesley's Stefan is as introspective and sensitive as Edward Cullen, his self-loathing isn't as annoying. But it's not just about Stefan; Ian Somerhalder is literally killer as his bad boy brother, Damon. He's so gorgeous and charming already that I had to remind myself that I'm not supposed to like this guy.
To see the bad and the bloody, just read more.
The Bad: That fog. And the crow. The creepy thematic elements are so heavy handed that I thought the cheesiness factor might turn me off. I hope that now that the fog/crow's origin has been revealed, it'll be abandoned. The "dear diary" stuff also needs to be toned down. I know that it's a cornerstone of the books (and hello, in the title), but it's such an overwhelming plot device that I'm worried that Elena's (Nina Dobrev) every emotion will hit us over the head.
The Bloody: I was surprised at the level of gore on the show. It's certainly no True Blood, but I'd assumed that the bloody stuff was going to be akin to the immaculate biting of the Twilight vamps. Not so, as evidenced by some pretty gnarly bite marks. But even for a gore-hater like me, it's still easy to stomach.
So, if you were one of the many who tuned in to see the latest spate of vampire/damsel players, which parts did you think were the best and worst? Where do you want to see the story go this season?

loooved it!!!
1I really enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of Twilight and this just gave me more of what I wanted. I love vampires. I would watch vampires if they were on CSPAN.
2The show was decent...I definitely thought the first half was boring. I'll watch a couple more episodes before deciding whether it deserves a season pass.
The Good:
- The actors...no cheesy acting, so far
- Little bit of violence, little bit of gore
- Humor
The Bad
3- Corny dialogue here and there
- the FOG! and the use of the cemetery...too obvious and I laughed
Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to this Twilight/Degrassi mash-up but I just couldn't get into it.
4Ok so I was also getting ready for the midnight premiere of Jennifer's Body where I got a nice hug from Adam Brody (gotta gloat a bit LOL) but I couldn't help but laugh at how much the good vampire seemed to be channeling Edward Cullen.
I'll give it another chance but if it doesn't pick up next week, I'll drop it.
I loved it as well. I was wondering which direction they were going to take with the vampires being out and about in daytime but I like how they went the buffy route with the special ring that protects them from the sun.
5I enjoyed it, definitely will give me a weekly Twilight fix to hold me over until Nov.20 when New Moon comes out. It's a cross between Twilight, One Tree Hill and Buffy. Works for me
6i watched it waiting for Supernatural to come on and i gotta say i was pleasantly surprised. damon definitely got my attention. the fog is definitely cheesy and the "dear diary" stuff just reminds of Roswell. i'll give it a chance though.
7I was surprised. The pilot was really good.. definitely tuning in next week
8I really liked it! Better than expected.
9didn't watch me. can someone explain to me why a vampire would go to high school? if i was immortal and lived for hundreds and hundreds of years, I wouldn't be still going to high school.
10I liked the fog element.
11I enjoyed it more than expected. It was a bit on the corny side but I can see this becoming a guilty pleasure...
12Watched, it was surprisingly good. Never saw or interested in seeing Twilight or True Blood, so I can't compare them. This show howerver reminded me of Roswell.
The cast, except for the slutty girl, is great looking. The dialogue is ok, the music I love. Hopefully the cheesy fog and crow was to introduce the a-holeness of the Damon character. I'll give it a try.
13I enjoyed it
14although it is different from the books
I was a bit disappointed that the commercials had pretty much given most of the episode way, but I will definitely be tuning in again next week. Random thoughts... the way they styled Ian Somerhalder's hair was awful, I'm already annoyed by that blonde chick, but I loved Paul Wesley & Nina Dobrev.
15i agree w/ PoshBride....its a good combo of several of my guilty pleasure-shows.
16loveeeeeeed it
17Really liked it!! Made my friend watch it with me, and we both though Stefan and Damon looked hot (love Damon's smirk in his first scene! even if I'm not supposed to like him lol). But I agree with what everyone else is saying, the fog, the crow, and the somewhat cheesy dialogue were kinda annoying. I'll keep watching!
18It was better than I expected. I will keep watching for a while & hope it gets better. it's no True Blood but I need some vamp show to hold my attention since TB doesn't come back til next summer and New Moon is not out til November.
Damon is no Eric Northman. hahaha
19I liked it. It was a great, interesting show. Plus I'm loving the hot guys lol. And I liked the main actress, Nina. Never watched "True Blood" and haven't watched "Twilight" yet. I'm a little slow getting into "Twilight" lol. I just now started getting into it and I haven't seen the movie yet and just started the books recently lol.
Anyways so "The Vampire Diaries" is my first vampire show/movie and I like it alot. And both Stefan and Damon (Paul and Ian) are both hot and better looking than Robert Pattinson. The only thing I didn't like was the violence and creepiness. Eww.
20The story is your usual vampire storyline... meh.the 'dear diary' thing is so cliche and was a crack-up. The only good thing about this show is Ian Somerhalder. Drool....
21I gave it a shot, cause I love True Blood, and a couple of teen dramas are my guilty pleasures. But my god, how awful this one is. It's even worse than Twilight [I didn't think that was possible]. Something for 12 year olds maybe. There's nothing smart, nothing funny, nothing interesting here, and as far as acting goes, in comparison to these young actors, Pattinson and Stewart seem like Paul Newman and Meryl Streep.
22I can't believe that Ian Somerhalder, after starring in Tell Me You Love Me, moved on to this sh**.
The best thing about the first episode was Ian Somerhalder's Damon... I'm definitly going to give this show a shot.
23I read The Vampire Diaries books by L.J. Smith when I was in middle school. The books were awesome themselves. I was disappointed by how much they changed for the tv show, especially making Elena a brunette instead of a blonde. They also changed her personality. If I hadn't read the books, maybe I'd be more into the tv show.
24The bad:
- Stefan guy is kinda boring. I really don't like the goody ones. They are all the same in all shows, movies, etc. No personality, not funny at all, just introspective and "mysterious" Zzzz
- Like someone said above, the diary things reminds me of Roswell. And Liz girl was boring with her diary entries, same here;
- The lead girl. I didn't liker her on Degrassi, don't like her now. The character is not helping either.
The good:
- The soundtrack. Playing Placebo wins points with me;
- All the hot guys (except Stefan). The girls are cute too, but I didn't like them. I miss a geeky, or fun girl, smart, anything other than the usual pretty girls.
- I liked the darker aura of the sets and cinematography.
- Damon - at least someone with a sense of humor in this show (although a deadly one).
25I went into it with low expectations, and left unimpressed. Brooding teenagers, what a concept. I think I must be psychic, too, since everything was so predictable. Then again, high school dramas are not my thing, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway since there was nothing else on.
I did like the music.
26Two thumbs up!
27Surprisingly I liked it!
28Good enough to convince me to watch the second episode, but that's about it. It will need to be a little more compelling in episode 2 to keep me as a viewer.
29Surprisingly, I really liked it. I think the main actors were fantastic, especially Paul Wesley, who played Stefan
. The supporting actors, however, were dreadful and extremely annoying except for the guy who played Jeremy (Elena's brother). I enjoyed the story, though, and I
loved the music that they used. Plus, there was just the right amount of gore so I was creeped out but not grossed out.
30Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder are sooo SEXY!!! Honestly, they make Robert Pattinson look like a peice of sh*t(in looks and in acting). And Damon was so awesome, I think he's my favourite character on the show, I'm like in love with this, but the things that annoy me are that jerk that always picks on Elena's brother and Mr. Tanner and kept feeling that Stefan was throwing all these Edward Cullen vibes @ me.
PS: Paul Wesley+Ian Somerhalder=HOTNESS
