Is that a picture of Snow White next to a picture of some monks?
Why, yes. Yes, it is.
But why?
Well, because Disney is planning a live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, directed by Francis Lawrence of I Am Legend.
But ... the monks?
In this version, tentatively titled Snow and the Seven, a British girl in 19th century Hong Kong will realize she must conquer an evil force — and she'll train for her adventure with seven Shaolin monks. There's even a crazy internet rumor that Natalie Portman and Jet Li could be involved.
I'm baffled.
This project has been floating around for a while — Michael Chabon was supposed to write the script at one point, though he's no longer involved, and at least four other writers have also had their hands on the screenplay — but it looks like Disney's really going ahead with it now. I'm not sure why Disney would risk sullying a true classic with a remake that sounds a little ... um, far-fetched, especially when the project has already been this troubled. What's your take?

I just watched Ever After 2 nights ago. It is one of my favorite movies of all times and I was thinking it is probably the Disney story that is easiest to make into a real life or more realistic movie. I would be interested in hearing more about this movie...I definitely wouldn't count it out.
1oh goodness.
2Disney is a company who, IMO, teeters between making great and classic animated/live action films (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lion King, Toy Story, and all the other Disney Pixar/ animated masterpieces of old) and putting out utter crap (too many to list) just to make money. This looks like the latter. I think Disney could and should do better than this. They're basically flaunting the fact that children will see any movie, no matter how bad the trailer is.
3Sounds a little strange to me! I'm not even a big fan of the original animated Snow White.
4Weird!
5Monks?!?!?! I think it would be best to stick with the classic Snow White story line... make it sort of like a fantasy movie. I have no idea where they get the idea of "monks" from "dwarves." I'm a little leary of how this will turn out... but I will probably watch it at least once to satisfy my curiousity.
6Do they make dwarf moks?
Who knows. I remember going to the first pirates movie thinking "OMG, this is gonna suck" and only seeing it because of Johnny. I ended up going to it five other times in the theatres that summer.
7Not at all sure about this one.
8umm not so sure about this one.
9Booo! I wish they weren't doing this.
10Oh my god, I forgot all about this. Er, since I first read about it a week or two ago. But I'm sure it's gonna be horrible.
11Also, I pretty much agree with Mainly Obsessed. I'm disappointed that they'll put out such sucky movies, like those gosh darn decades-too-late animated sequels and things like Underdog.. -_- (no offense intended to anyone who's going to see it).
12..... sigh
13Huh?
14WHY CAN'T THEY COME UP WITH NEW IDEAS FOR CHILDREN'S MOVIES?!?!?! GAHHHHH come up with something fresh and new!
15August Fools?
16That sounds a bit crazy, but maybe it'll be a good film in itself once you forget that remake nonsense. I hope it'll be an adventure flick, like Pirates meeting Cruching Tiger? Otherwise it'll be just weird.
17get some new ideas, Disney.
18By today's standards of film, Snow White can be tough for kids to watch continuously.... I can see why they are "milking" the trademark potential franchise.... even if I don't approve.
19oh please no!
20weird !
21And it couldn't be an Asian girl could it? Jeez, I'm damn sick of seeing all these generic looking white girls, especially in an Asian themed movie.
22Oye...
