Welcome to the first installment of BuzzSugar's monthly must-haves, where I show off a handful of the things I'm most looking forward to watching, buying, renting and reading. Here are six goodies that I'm looking forward to in August:

To hear why these six things are at the top of my list, read more
- "Friday Night Lights": The Complete First Season — one of my favorite new shows of the past TV season comes to DVD Aug. 28. The five-disc set is priced at an almost scandalous $29.99 — and many online retailers already have it for less.
- Before the spooky-looking movie The Invasion (starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman) opens in theaters August 17, I'm definitely going to re-watch the 1978 zombie fright-fest on which it's based: Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Just thinking about this film gives me goosebumps, so I hope the remake does the original justice. Be sure to check out the DVD's excellent commentary by director Philip Kaufman.
- The New Pornographers: Challengers — This Canadian supergroup creates some of the most perfect power-pop tunes around, and I'm looking forward to strolling through the city on a late-summer day with their latest album (out Aug. 21) on my iPod.
- Are you ready for the August 3 opening of The Bourne Ultimatum?! Well, with this 3-disc collection, you can say you were Bourne ready. I know that pun was hilarious, but it's time to focus: the special edition set includes both The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and a whole separate disc of extra materials.
- Rilo Kiley: Under the Blacklight — My girl crush on Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis is well-documented, and it doesn't hurt that I've liked everything I've heard so far from the band's new album, out Aug. 21.
- This month boasts two major movies that were based on books: Neil Gaiman's Stardust and The Nanny Diaries, co-written by Emma Mclaughlin and Nicola Kraus. If you haven't yet read these, check them out before Stardust opens August 10 and Diaries opens August 24 so you can see how the film versions stack up.

Stardust is a great GREAT book- can't wait to see the movie. it is so well-cast.
1The New Pornographers are fantastic. when they played at the folk fest here a few years ago, they pretty much trumped anyone who had ever even thought of playing here.
2We just bought Bourne so I can cross that off my list!
3Just ordered Friday Night Lights from Amazon. Cannot wait!
4If you are excited about Invasion and liked that Invasion of the Body Snatchers, you should absolutely check out the 1956 version (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049366/) on which the 70's movie is based. It's incredibly scary.
5kdevinney: Yeah, I still haven't seen the 1956 version but I definitely should. Good call!
6Buzz can I please add a couple more dvds to that list:
Ugly Betty Season One - 21st August
Heroes Season One - 28th August
I've only seen the first two episodes of Heroes so very excited about getting it on dvd. No waiting a week for each episode!
7I completely agree with kdevinney, I took a film adaptation class in school and we read Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which is an awesomely scary little book, and then watched the '56 version and the '78 version. The '56 version ROCKS, the '78 version was pretty good, but I just don't see how this one can improve on what's already been done. Definitely see the originals before you see the new one!
8I definitely agree with Friday Night Lights being on the list. The first season was nearly flawless.
9Rilo Kiley and New Pornographers! Bought a ticket to see Rilo Kiley the other day; very excited. Ive heard 2 songs from Under the Blacklight and theyre much more produced-sounding than previous albums so I had to get used to them, but I still like it.
10Oh, anyone know when The Office DVD from this past season comes out?
11i'm really looking forward to the new pornographers album (i heard it and it is really good!) and the rilo kiley as well. i agree that those two dvds (ugly betty and heroes) are also ones to look forward to!
12I love Bourne- BUT, aren't they going to do a three disc collection down the road including ultimatum?? I might wait for that one.
13Stardust is so amazing, it's one of my favorite novels of all time.
I can't wait for the movie!
