The Facts:
- Jodi Picoult's novel My Sister's Keeper is being adapted for film.
- Cameron Diaz will star as "a former defense attorney who returns to the courtroom to defend herself and her husband when they are sued by their 13-year-old daughter for emancipation."
- Nick Cassavetes, who directed The Notebook, will direct the project.
Ms. Diaz is one busy lady.
What with the Ashton Kutcher comedy What Happens in Vegas... and then the suspense-thriller The Box, My Sister's Keeper won't go into production for a while. Cammie's rather in demand these days, no?
The Book:
I enjoyed Picoult's Vanishing Acts, so I should probably get to reading Keeper before it comes to the big screen. Anyone read the book already? Thoughts?

Hmm...I wonder if she can pull this off?
1It's a moving story, but Cameron seems too young for the role.
2No, no, no, no, no! I'm sorry but after reading this book and feeling connected to the characters and being emotionally torn throughout the entire story, I do not feel that she is right to the play the mother. Or, at least, she is not the type of woman I pictured as the mom. I'm not sure who but it certainly wasn't anybody like Cameron. I am not a fan of hers and seeing what she's done to other roles ("In Her Shoes" which was also adapted from a book, by Jennifer Weiner), I'm not looking forward to this one...
3My Sister's Keeper is my all time favorite book like ever!!! I feel that Cameron is way too young to play the role of Anna and two other children's mom. what is with hollywood and casting younger startlets to play older women!? I could def see her as playing Julia though, the gaurdian and litem of Anna, the main character.
4I completely agree with what everyone has said here. When I first read this headline I could not for the life of me figure out who she would portray in the film. She's too young to play the mother of three teenagers. I wonder what they're thinking...?
5I agree. I love this book and can't see Cameron in the role. I always imagined Joley Ricardson of Nip/Tuck would be good as Sara if made into a movie. We'll see I guess.
6cameron just doesnt fit =\ i read the book a number of years ago but from what i can remember...cammy just wont do!
7Excellent Book. Do be ready to cry! As for Cameron... not sure that I agree w/that but I'll keep an open mind and will likely still go to see it.
8I can't stand Cameron Diaz!! And I love this book so it's really disappointing to hear that she'll be in the lead. She's way too annoying and actor-lite to carry that role.
9Oh my goodness. I absolutely love this book, as well as all of Jodi Picoult's books... Cameron may be a bit too young, and it kinda worries me about her being the mom, being as it's a very emotional role that I don't know if she can handle... Either way, I'm excited to see it happen.
10wow...i think i might read this book, sounds awesome
11I not a Cameron fan; I'm more impartial to her acting.
12But I don't want to judge until I at least see the trailer. She might pull another 'Being John Malkovich' out of her!
The book is wonderful. It is one of my favorite Picoult books. However, I just don't see Cameron in the role. She's too young for it and she doesn't have the right...gravitas for it. Bummer.
13I really liked the book, it's one of my favorite Piccolt's.
I'm not so sure about Cameron. I think she does fine in a comedy but not sure how well she will do with this, hope she will step it up!
14Buzz - Definitely read the book!! It's her best work (IMO).. a moving, surprising story every step of the way. I can't seem Cam playing the Mom either.. I pictured a stern, obsessive woman.. Cam is too goofy.. I just keep picturing her in little boys undies dancing around.. haha. I dunno, I'll see it anyways because it's an amazing book and I bet the adaptation will be great thanks to Nick Cassavettes
15wow, cant wait
16oh mannnnn i am so madddddddd i LOVED LOVED LOVED the book. (also check out 'The Pact'). Cameron Diaz is so not the mom. The mom is like a distressed Julianne Moore or Renee Zellweger (brunette Renee though) or I could totally se Robin Wright Penn in the role. NOT CAMERON DIAZ. PLEASE NOOOOO! ugh okay. yeah i loved the book.
17This is my fav Picolt book. I cried like a baby.
18i haven't read the book.
19I've read the book and everything else jodi picoult has written- she really knows how to move you. her books are some of the rare few that I've ever cried over. My Sister's Keeper was great, just like EVERY other book of hers, and I guess I'm excited that cameron diaz is in it, because she did another book I love- In Her Shoes- and I think she did justice to the character. and if you haven't read the book, get on it!
20That is hands down my favorite book ever. I love Cam and hope she can pull it off but she has big shoes to fill because I do think the people who have read the book already love the characters! But I hope i hope i hope she can because i cannot wait to see it!

22Have you guys read lovely bones? What do you think of Ryan Gossling as the dad?!
23this is one of my all time favorite books and i DO NOT see cameron playing Sara. no way!! maybe julia but def not sara. i hope this adaptation is successful because i love the book so much but it's not off to a good start.
24i LOVED this book. it was the first of Picoult's i read, and the ending will shock the hell out of you. DEFINITELY read it.
however, i am more than slightly peeved that Cameron is going to be playing the mom. i'm not seeing it at ALL.
25Wow, I am so intrigued to read this book now! Alright, you all have convinced me — I'll get it this weekend.
26Cameron is way to young to play the mom. It will be interesting to see how they make this a movie, knowing how the story wraps up. I will still see the movie for sure and will bring tissues for sure.
27I can overlook Ryan Gossling has the dad in Lovely Bones since I like him and he is totally hot.
28OMG, this is so my kinda movie. I'm there.
29I just scanned and read previouse comments. The lovely bones was my last favorate book and no i can not see Ryan Gosling as the dad?!Unless their going to make the girls seem younger than they are in the book.Love Ryan Gosling but as the dad?
30I agree that Robin Wright Penn could pull off Sara. Cameron Diaz maybe as Julia, but how can she play a mother of 3?? This sounds like very poor poor casting.
31Yeah I have no idea why she's playing the mom. I loooove this book but I just don't see it as being a really good movie. I dunno, it just seems like it could be a movie of the week if they don't do a perfect job on it. Cameron makes a lot more sense as the mom's sister, actually, the kids' Aunt Suzanne. Of course that'd be a really small part if they even wrote it into the screenplay. But I think who's playing the girls is really the most important part.
32It's a very emotional story that will move you to tears. Cam will need to glam it down, as the mother is emotionally distant. I wonder who will play the father?
33Ugh. I agree with you all. My sisters keeper is my favorite book of all time (closely followed/tied with PS I love you by Cecilia Ahern) Cameron is SO not the person I would have pictured for the part (just like Hilary Swank is going to ruin the story of PS I love you when it comes out as a movie)!
34I don't think Cameron Diaz is right for the part at all I would have thought Maura Tierney or Sandra Bullock or even Rachel Griffiths would be great for the part actually i think everyone they picked for the cast is so wrong... like alec baldwin being Campbell I would picture Keanu Reeves or Milo Ventimiglia they took what could have been a great movie and already ruining it with their casting choices
35i just finished reading the book..i cried so much i have a head ache right now..
36i highly recommend anyone who hasnt read it to go buy the book and read it..!!!
I'm guessing that the people who have posted about Cameron Diaz not being able to handle this role forgot about her in 'Being John Malkovich', 'Any Given Sunday', 'Gangs of New York', 'Vanilla Sky', 'She's the One', 'Feeling Minnesota', etc. I think most of the people posting on here are fairly young and therefore don't know her entire repertoire - check her out. Before she was burping and farting in all of her films, she was quite the indie film actress and could definitely hold her own. I haven't read this book, but I saw a preview of the film while waiting for Angels and Demons - It looks good! I was convinced; Once I finish Michael J Fox's book, I'll be picking this one up to read on vacation. Don't judge Ms. Diaz on her most recent films, go check out some oldies! Enjoy!
37I cried and cried reading this book. I just can't help it! (Oh yeah, The Pact is also a good novel - it should become a movie too!)
I have no problems having Cameron Diaz as the mom.. She doesn't even look that young anymore! Plus, I've just seen the trailer, and I already feel like crying, lol.
I can't wait for the movie to come out!!
38My absolute favorite book - very well researched and written. Cameron Diaz as the mom... seriously, it was awful. Julia Roberts, Robin Wright Penn, Helen Hunt, for goodness sake!! Cameron is NOT who I pictured. BUT, Hollywood ruined the movie anyway by completely changing the ending of the book, so it doesn't really matter anyway.
