Apparently the rumors are true: NBC wants Jimmy Fallon to take over for Conan O'Brien when O'Brien makes his expected move to "The Tonight Show" in 2009. "I think he’d be terrific, and he is at the top of our short list," NBC's late-night chief Rick Ludwin told Broadcasting & Cable magazine.
Back in February, when it was first announced that NBC was pursuing Fallon, I said I hoped NBC would broaden its search a bit, maybe considering Jon Stewart — who later dined with NBC execs — or one of a number of very funny female comedians. But it appears all roads lead back to Fallon, so now I've got to ask you: Do you think he's right for the job?

Good choice for late night
1I like Jimmy Fallen's everyman quality, which also works for Conan. I think he could be really funny on this.
2i like fallon but Jon stewart would be awesome i might stay up more!
3Ummmm...YA!
4I think he could. Not to mention it would be great to see him on TV again!
To be honest, I'm still hoping NBC keeps Leno around. Conan isn't ready for the top spot yet.
5Jimmy Fallon would be a great choice...plus, I think he's adorable!!
6Nope. I don't think he's got what it takes.
7i think he would really be fun and much better than Jon Stewart who is doing better on his own show. I would love Jimmy as the new host.
8I think he'd be great! He's so funny!
9I love Jimmy Fallon!
10He's not funny.
11I think he would be a good choice. He's sweet and goofy but not that funny which I think can actually be an asset for a host- funny enough to lighten the mood and keep things going but not so funny as to detract from the guest.
12He'd be a better choice if the "Late Night" show consisted of talk about Boston-area sports, mainly centered on the Red Sox. I personally think he's a bad choice, there's finally something whiplashgirlchild and I agree on. He's gotten to be so damn annoying since he left Saturday Night Live.
13I thought Jimmy was a Yankees fan. Not saying that you have to be a Yankees fan and be a New Yorker, but... I thought it was just his character in Fever Pitch that was a Red Sox fan and not him.
I can see him on the show.
14Really? If that's the case, then maybe they should create a whole other show for him featuring his "Boston Teens" character, Sully. I could see him doing that. Hosting Late Night, I just can't fathom him doing that.
15YES
16Not a fan, and I cannot forgive "Taxi"
17The thing is, I can't stand Jay Leno. He may be an institution, but that doesn't mean I have to like him.
Now, I love Conan. And Jimmy. So that kind of combination makes me happy. I love Jon Stewart too, but I think he's doing too well at his current show to want him to move to another one.
And I dislike Carson Daly.
18So as long as he's not on the list. Hwahaha.
I like the guy, but I don't see that working out. I don't think he has late night host qualities. I wouldn't see his show lasting very long.
19I like him, hope he does great!
20Wow, you'd think they'd be interesting in having someone who is funny for that job. Fever Pitch and Taxi were both enormous bombs!
21it's a very good choice.
22I agree with Wynnkey.
23I don't really like Conan. I like Jay. Jimmy? I liked him in SNL, so I guess I'd have to see.
24the only way to know for sure is to watch!
