For me it's definitely between Big Love and Dexter. Both third seasons were so much more outstanding than the previous on these already stellar shows. I preferred the first season of Mad Men
to the second, as the second felt too pedantic and rambling compared to the taut, revelatory pace of the first. However, it would be basically impossible for me to choose between Big Love or
Dexter because they are both my favorite shows on earth. I don't envy the Emmy judges making that choice. I almost have to say Big Love because it achieves the same accomplishment as Dexter
(pitch perfect acting from an ensemble cast) but Big Love does it on an even larger scale, incorporating actors of all ages from the fabulous Bruce Deer to the young and luminary Amanda
Seyfried.
