Dude.
The LA Times brings us the news that Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is being remade for a straight-to-DVD release.
It's a joke, right?
Nope. Writers Gabe Grifoni and Suzanne Francis already have an outline for the script. Original creators Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson weren't asked to participate, but they said they wish Bill and Ted well.
What about Keanu?
From the sounds of things, this is going to be a straight-up remake, not a sequel focusing on the guys in their 40s (which, frankly, could have been pretty funny). So it looks like Keanu and Alex Winter are off the hook. But who else could play Bill and Ted?
Could it possibly be excellent?
I'm pretty worried about this one, guys. After all the outcry over the Footloose remake yesterday, I simply can't wait to see what you have to say about this.

Travesty! Absolute travesty! I agree that a sequel featuring the dudes all grown up could have been awesome. But a flat out remake? Come on Hollywood! I know there are tons of original scripts out there by screenwriters dying to get their break. Give them a shot! Stop remaking movies that don't need to be messed with. This was perfect the first time around!
1NO WAY MAN!!!! They can't remake Bill and Ted, no one can carry the characters like Keanu and Alex!!!! Thisis worse than a travesty. This is like a capital crime!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
2Why would they mess with something like this? Maybe they could do it around Bill and Ted's kids or something, but a straight out remake? Two thumbs down.
3i swear buzz you're killing me here. first i was disappointed about the Zac Efron/Footloose news. then got all excited that our prayers were answered that Dakota Fanning was not cast in the ryan Gosling/Rachel Weis movie. NOW THIS. It's like emotional rollercoaster.
That's it I'm postponing my career as a journalist and becoming a scripwriter right this minute. ARGH I didn't know Hollywood can make me this mad.
4At least they realize it's going to blow and are relegating it to DVD land.
5hahaha eaker that's true. so true.
6WHAT?!? I can't ever see this being a good film. Are they remaking one of the movies exactly or doing a film using the same characters? Either way it's a really bad idea...
7Ummm...NO! Why oh why do people try to do this stuff? There is only one Bill and Ted and Rufus! GAW!
8Boo!
9Why are movies being remade!!?? Just let them be...
10excellente
11haha can they not
12that SUCKS!! what a waste of money! I went to see that movie 3 times when I was 9, and they just can't make it w/o the original Bill and Ted... even then it would be pretty pointless, esp. w/o the original writers. WTF are they thinking?!!?
13
It sounds horrible, but you know I'm going to rent it.
14no wonder its going straight to dvd
15Has American creativity really come to this? Stop it...here's a most excellent equation:
Bill + Ted'S Excellent Adventure - Keanu Reeves - Alex Winter - George Carlin = BOGUS!!!
16Does Buss think it's April 1st?!? Ok, while this is not EXACTLY a classic - it sort of is. It's a modern classic that took stereotypes from its day and used them to great effect in these flicks. Alex and Keanu were spot on and hilarious, Carlin was great as the guide, and I am simply fuming that someone wants to remake this. WHY?!?! Again...I say....there ARE screenwriters that have original ideas...if not original premises(love conquers all, pride leads to a fall), at least original ways to tell the stories. Hollywood is making me angry.
What? Today's preteens are crying for a Bill & Ted of their very own with their own lingo? I can't see it, frankly. I wish I ran a studio!!!!
17Buzz* grrr. See how mad I was? =p
18I was already disappointed when I read a blurb reporting Keanu's agent had advised against his participation in another Bill + Ted sequel. This news of a "revisiting" is so much worse! "Bogus!"
19hmm. bogus...
20I have goosebumps, and I am afraid.
This shouldn't happen. I just watched the original again and then I read this and now I'm pretty sure I'm going to cry.
