Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix just opened yesterday, but it is already breaking records at the box office. The film made $12 million for the midnight showing alone, beating out Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as the No. 1 Wednesday opening midnight run ever. Still with me? Order of the Phoenix doubled the midnight revenue of Goblet of Fire, which opened up on a Friday night back in 2005. Basically, what this all means is that the Transformers are in for some stiff competition at the box office this weekend.

i'm really excited about this. i just read an article on msn.com that compared all 5 harry potter movies and they said that the box office profits weren't consistent. for example the second movie didn't do so well than the first or something like that. in other words unlike lord of the rings where each movie did better than the previous movie, harry potters movies would go up and down.
yay for Harry Potter!!!!!!
Oh and considerig that i enjoyed thge fifth harry potter movie so much i'm glad that it's beating records in the box office.
I'm going to see it on Sat eve with my friends, and I'm soooo excited!! We're planning to celebrate Saturday by having a Geek Day (since we all have our books and DVDs left at home, we had to come up with something that wasn't really a Harry Potter day) heheh.. And of course the non-British of us are required to talk with an English accent!
i went to the midnight show . . . it was packed. i loved it. not enough snape for me though. if i had it my way, all snape scenes from the book would be in the movies.
I saw it at 5:30 yesterday (didn't want to miss Top Chef at 10!), and loved it, but would've liked for a couple of different things from the book to have made it into the movie. Otherwise, it was fantastic!! Seeing it again this weekend!
I was the midnight show. I thought it was fantastic!! Imelda Staunton who plays Umbridge was brilliant.
yeah I went to midnight too! but here we only have it in Spanish (darn... they think it is a kids movie, so they don't bring it on English) but anyway... it was packed with a lot of people and kids that fell asleep. IT WAS GREAT!!! i CANT WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN (IN ENGLISH...THIS TIME)
i can hardly contain myself...i'm gonna see it on IMAX on Sunday....
saw it last night and enjoyed it - go see it!
i msut be the only one who won't go see it ! i stopped after the second one.
I saw it last night. Definitely amazing, but Ron had like 2 lines. The 3D part was GREAT though.
i agree ron didn't have enough lines. but i was already expecting that when someone commented yesterday that some characters like ron didn't have bigger roles in this movie. i was still sad though because i like Rupert Grint. now i'm going to get my Ruper Grint fix with one of his other movies called driving lessons.
i cant wait to see it!! I think I will go this weekend and help with the weekend sales..lol
This film looks great! I can't wait to go see it.
nadioz - you stopped when they started getting good! the first two movies are boring to me, very kiddie fodder, the third is still the most beautiful (artistically) this one was fun, but not as good as the previous two, but I think that's mostly because the book is the same way.
I agree that the third one is definitely much better directed, it's really amazing! And the atmosphere is also closer to the book's imo, even though they cut a lot of scenes.
Strangely, all my friends disagree with me on that one!
We're going tomorrow morning, I can't wait!!!
i have just seen this movie twice in one day! oh yes, and it is the best movie i have ever seen!
I saw it last night, and I liked it, but didn't love it. Like someone else said they cut out a lot of things that I think they should have kept in, or changed the way they happened. My favorite is still the third one.
Saw it last night. Really liked it. Agree with dmblauren that there wasn't enough Snapes (secret crush!). And I really miss R. Harris as Dumbledore. Have heard that the last 20 minutes in 3D is pretty amazing.
I can't wait to see this movie I'm sure its wonderful like the other ones!
can't wait!
I JUST saw it! I really liked it! The little girl behind me got really scared during the "fighting" bits at the end, which was cute, but I can understand how some parts would be scary for little kids!
Going this Saturday. I'd love to see it at IMAX, but we're going to be up to our eyeballs for the next three weeks and don't have time to make the drive.
so many good looking summer movies!
every person i know has seen it already or will this weekend!
Sigh, I loved it because I'm a huge Harry Potter fan... you know, read/have all the books the day it came out, have all 4 DVDS. But this movie didn't do the book justice. I mean, I knew how dark the movie was going to be after reading it but I don't know... it could have been the director or something else that made it only likable not lovable for the Harry Potter readers.
I AGREE WITH BIZZYBEE!!!! I MISS THE OLD DUMBLEDORE R.HARRIS!!! this new dumbledore doesn't do his character any justice AT ALL!
I loved loved loved it! It's the best yet, and the acting is better than ever.
Can't wait to see this movie...but I think I need to reread the book first.
The only thing HP5 got right was the atmosphere. I found it heaps better than movies 3& 4, but so far, none of the movies have captured the emotional intensity seen in the books. Plus, despite my liking of her as a person, Emma Watson's portrayal of Hermione has always grated my nerves.
I thought the movie was just OK - i have to say that i agree that the movies just fail to capture the emotional intensity you get from the books!
