This week, in the Springfields of America, a great battle is raging: Which town will prove it's worthy of hosting the premiere of The Simpsons Movie on July 27? Fourteen of the nation's Springfields have submitted videos about their towns for a USA Today contest; voting, which is open now and closes July 9, will determine which town wins the premiere.
I have to give these towns some props: While the videos are obviously amateur, they're made with a lot of heart. The Illinois and Oregon Springfields took the tactic of using clips from the show to justify why their town is the "real" home of the Simpsons, while several of the others created fake news reports (often featuring a Kent Brockman-like anchor). And apparently, some Springfields have more in common than just their name: Over the course of the 14 videos, I counted quite a few scenes with Disco Stu look-alikes, prank calls to the local tavern, and Bart-like characters writing sentences over and over on a chalkboard. Springfield, Kentucky, even had someone write a bluegrass-tinged theme song for their film. (Springfield, Minnesota, on the other hand, declined to participate, saying their town was nothing like Homer's stomping ground.)

2my aunt called my mom last night and told us both to vote for their springfield (missouri). they got a meet joe black premier b/c that's where brad pitt is from so i told her i was voting for a different one. she didn't tell us about the videos...i'll have to check them out.

4It should be Springfield, OR that wins. I believe Matt Groening says that his inspiration for much of the Simpsons came from his youth in Portland, OR (Oregon is my home state, so that's where the pride comes from).
5It should take place in the actual Springfield the writters had in mind way back when. That way we can all finally know which one it really is.

8Vote for Illinois! Shelbyville is a nearby town, it's got its own city power plant, Abraham Lincoln is strikingly similar to Jebediah Springfield. "Capital City" is very similar to Chicago (which many people think is the capital of Illinois anyway). And Springfield, Illinois, is average in just about every way -- the perfect Springfield for the Simpsons!

17It HAS to be Oregon. It only makes sense, since Matt Groening is from Portland and there have always been tons of references to Portland and Oregon on the show.. anyone else from Porltand probably picks up on all those.
