From Pushing Daisies to Dirty Sexy Money to Kings, this Summer has been a time for networks to show the final episodes of shows they canceled. The latest in that string is Samantha Who? which airs its final two episodes tonight.
I didn't expect to be writing something like that about Samantha Who? after just two seasons. The show was one of the strongest debuts of the year back in '07, getting a plum slot after Dancing With the Stars and capitalizing on it with the story of Samantha Newly (Christina Applegate) developing amnesia and slowly learning about her bad-girl past. The show nabbed two Emmy nominations for Applegate (including this year, after the show had already been canceled) and a win for supporting actress Jean Smart. And at least at first, its ratings were solid.
But then the writers' strike happened, and then Samantha had trouble drawing viewers without Dancing With the Stars, and then came the final blow: apparently the show could have been renewed if it slashed its budget, but in the end, a deal couldn't get done.
So Samantha joins the ranks of the other Summer burn-offs with its final two episodes tonight. The finale is set on Andrea's wedding day, with Samantha feeling torn between Todd and Winston Funk. Will you be watching? To check out a clip from one of the episodes (with guest star Angie Harmon), just read more.

i'll be watching! i think the 1st season was much better, but it still makes me laugh
1too bad!!! Samantha is so funny and i loooove the way Jennifer Esposito acts, i will miss her character. I also liked the wardrobe.
2So sad this show got canceled. The cast had great timing.
3The good always seem to die young!
Buzz, you left out "Eli Stone" which had it's finale about 2 Saturdays ago...if ABC didn't air "Lost" and "Ugly Betty" I would totally divorce that station!
4I love this show and of course it's cancelled. Better make way for the 27th edition of Dancing with the stars. Better off Ted was dumb, The Motherhood wasn't funny. Congratulations ABC you got rid of the only show I watched on your channel. Oh yeah I forgot Regis is coming back to save you again with that hack Millionaire. Good luck with that crap.
5I'm sad about this too - in the UK it had the perfect show time just after 90210!
with the show only being half an hour long too I was still in bed before 11pm
haha x
6This is a mistake. I think this show is hilarious. Another one bites the dust.
7Goodbye Samantha Who?....I'll miss you! The first season was hilarious (especially Regina and Dena - remember the episode where they got drunk together at Regina's house? Best episode to date), but season two was still good (although I did feel like this season had some inconsistencies with the storylines). Its disappointing that they're going to wrap everything up in just 2 short episodes, especially the whole Todd/Funk drama.
8I hate that this show got cancelled. It wasn't just the writers strike that killed the show. ABC didn't try to build a consistent audience, and changed the eps air time and night several times. It was bumped off their schedule in January for 2 hours of the Bachelor. Then in April it came on but it went against the top shows on the busiest night on TV, Thursday nights. The show had substance, loads of talent and always made me laugh. I miss it dearly.
