Some songs just play like the soundtrack for a movie scene waiting to be filmed. Case in point: the new tune from Montreal five-piece Stars, "The Night Starts Here." Listening to it, I can visualize the moment in the hypothetical film: After overcoming some type of adversity, a young woman (possibly played by Natalie Portman) heads out to a swanky nightclub, smiling as the lights swirl around her, and takes the first step toward reclaiming her moxie.
Ok, so I got a little carried away, but listen to the song and you'll see what I mean. Featuring enchanting boy-girl vocals from Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell (also of Memphis), the song will appear on Stars' next album, In Our Bedroom After the War, due out in September. Unlike 2004's Set Yourself on Fire — which, as the name suggests, was somewhat dark and eerie — "The Night Starts Here" suggests a poppier yet still very ethereal direction. i really anticipated this album! i got it the day it came out, and i'm still waiting for it to grow on me, like the rest of their albums have. they are one of my very favorite bands, if not the favorite. definitely give these guys a chance!
1Stars are one of the best bands around!! This song is great, though I have heard better from them. I can't wait for their next album to drop!
2I love stars.
3A little repetative-y techno-ish for my taste, but I COMPLETELY agree on the movie scene! This song does make me want to check out the rest of the album, I looove the girl-guy interplay on the vocals.
4i loved set yourself on fire... let's see how i do with this one!!!
5it's really good, i love personal, my favorite book, the night starts here and take me to the riot, although set yourself on fire is my favorite album.
