I will never understand how Cate Blanchett didn't win the Best Actress Oscar for "Elizabeth" over Gwyneth Paltrow in "Shakespeare in Love." I like Gwyneth, but there is NO CONTEST between the acting in these two movies. Cate was robbed.
1I can't wait!
2I'm more excited about Cate in "I'm Not There", where she plays one incarnation of Bob Dylan. I've seen pictures of Bob and she looks strikingly like him.
3Ek, I meant to say pictures of her as Bob. You can fidn them on IMDB.
4Wow! Looks amazing! And I agree - Cate was totally robbed.
5Thirded, mwmsjuly19 and HistoryGeek913! Cate was incredible in Elizabeth. With her, Geoffrey Rush, Clive Owen, and Shekhar Kapur involved, this could be great.
6RE: Oscars 1998
I think Gwyneth benefited from the fact that she is god-daughter of one of the Weinsteins, riding high then with Miramax (producers of "Shakespeare in Love"), and they pushed and pushed and campaigned for her.
Hollywood is all about connections . . .
7I loved elizabeh and i'm dying to watch this one, it looks so good.
8I can't wait to see this!
9why you should really watch this trailer:
1) clive owen
102) clive owen
3) clive owen's voice
This looks really good. I guess I'll have to see the first one first, but I have until October to do that.
11Clive Owen is gorgeous.
12Can't wait to see this - I loved the first one!
13I had no idea about this until now - thanks for enlightening us, Buzz!
I *so* agree with others that Cate should have *TWO* Oscars on her mantel. I do think that Gwyneth is a good actress, but she did not deserve the Oscar that year!!!
14Dang Cate didn't win for Elizabeth but Gwyneth did!!! That's madness, right there. Oh how I disliked the Weinsteins, always pushing actresses who they think is excellent down our throats, like Sienna Miller for Factory Girl. And look at the results for that movie. And nepotism sucks. i admire actors and actresses who have made it because of pure talent not connections.
15Cate rocks, love her in everything, she is one of the best actresses ever!
16OOOOOO I can't wait!
17Thanks, Buzz. This sequel looks amazing. And what a wonderful cast. Can't get much better than Cate, Clive, and Geoffrey Rush.
18Not really a Cate fan (I know, I know everyone love Cate), and I'm rather partial to Anne Marie Duff's portrayal.. But as previous History student I was fascinated by Elizabeth I's romantic relationships. Plus. I ♥ Clive.
19I love Cate and I agree with mwmsjuly19 and the others. I saw her do Hedda Gabler relatively recently, and she was awesome! Can't wait to see this movie.
20Oh no, not Clive Owen. Now I GOTTA SEE IT! AH!
Seriously, I saw Cate in the first movie.
Clive Owen is so totally slamdunk, it vibrates in the key of FINE!
/Fans self
Cant' wait.

21mwmsjuly19- I completely agree with you. Shakespeare in love was nice and all but Cate was incredible in Elizabeth. I've been waiting for this film to come out for so long- I can't wait!
22I can't wait. Cate totally should have won that Oscar. I really cannot wait for this!
23I bow at the greatness of it all...but Clive, Lizzie History, Clive, purple majestic robes of royalty, Clive...too much...ODing just thinking about it.
24Too damn exciting. Love the first movie and I'll probably die of excitement watching Cate and Clive. Just saw Elizabeth I with Helen Mirren, this is one fascinating queen.
25I'm fascinated with Elizabeth I. I still haven't seen Helen Mirren's version though.
26This is exciting. The trailer makes every scene in this movie look absolutely gorgeous. I love this time period and I think Elizabeth I is one of the most interesting leaders ever. So much world history transpired in this era, so much to think about; can't wait for the movie to be released!
Cate and Clive have so much talent, they are the treat that we get to watch!
27oh this looks so good! i love the costuming, and of course cate blanchett!
28MWMS, I totally agree. I nearly cried when Gwyneth won Oscar. It's not that she wasn't great. It's just that Cate was superb. Just because of the gimmicky male/female role, I think that's what made Gwyneth win. I adored the first Elizabeth movie, and hope the best for this one!
29Being a Cate/Owen fan and a History Ho, I can't wait to see this movie. I agree that Cate was robbed of an Oscar for Elizabeth. She has given (besides Helen Mirren) one of the most passionate and honest portrayals of Elizabeth I that I have seen.
30The first one was really, really good. My drama teacher showed it to us in high school. I'm excited about a sequel!
31D@mn! I cant wait. Elizabeth was such a good movie. : n e r d g i r l : (geek moment)
Plus, an Elizabeth movie w/out Earl of Lancaster and their
relationship?? Maybe it takes place after his death?.. Clive Owen? ppffftt. Im about Geoffery Rush.
Dont ask me why-but Ive always been in love with him. Something about him....Plus, one of the best and under-rated actors in the world, and so intellegent. Anything with Geoffry
Rush gets my vote!!
32Plus, I've always had this fascination with the Tudors and Queen Elizabeth. My only complaint about the original (and Im sure this one too) was that it was reeeaaaly factually inaccurate. It nailed some things but alot of major things were screwed around with to make more interesting...which kinda sucked. The Elizabeth mini-series w/Helen Mirren was pretty much right on. But this one-beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Excellent director. Excellent cast. Excellent writing. My only problem? Where the hell is Joseph Finnes!!???
This looks like one of the best movies of the year! I can't wiat for this to come out. It looks Soooooo good. I LOVE Clive Owen!!! Cate Blanchette is wonderful and Geoffery Rush is fantastic. What a great cast!
33I haven't seen Elizabeth but Cliveeeeeee Owennnn
34I soooooo can't wait to see this!! Love Cate, and yes, she was totally robbed!! >:( I also loved her in 'An Ideal Husband'! Rupert...droooooooool!
35The music seems cheesy and it seems so hollywood in its production. The first one was great in that it had that indie tone, even though some of the plot points were completely historically bankrupt (hello, Robin plotting her murder? Nope).
36i will definitely be watching this. can't wait. i loved the first elizabeth.and i so agree, she was robbed with that oscar. she deserved it more than anybody else.
