Some Summers have obvious anthems, the catchy songs that are completely inescapable. Take last year: "I Kissed a Girl" was everywhere, with several others close behind. And 2007 was clearly the year of "Umbrella," though it also had "Rehab" and "Young Folks" hot on its heels.
This year, though, I'm not sure there's a song that seems to be as ubiquitous as those were. The Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" seems to be the frontrunner, but I'm not convinced it's completely taken over.
So I'm going to put this one to you: What songs would you offer as nominees for 2009's Summer anthem?

5I'm kind of obsessed w/ Beyonce's Halo but it probably isn't pumped up enough to be the summer song. I'm not a big fan of the song, but "I Gotta Feeling" by the BEPs will probably end up being it.
6Oh and I love Kinds of Leon too, but alternative rock songs rarely "win" the summer.

9hTe BEP song "I Gotta Feeling" is used by my local radio station in their commercials on tv. That must be a sign that this is the summer song

11"I Gotta Feeling" is so much better than "Boom Boom Pow". It's the song of winter over here in NZ.
12I don't know about the US or the rest of the world, but here "when love takes over" by David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland is everywhere, it's actually a great song that makes you want to move, i love it.. can't say the same about "boom boom pow", this one is so irritating, i can't wait for it to disappear :/

personally, i would pick Kings of Leon but they don't necessarily scream "SUMMER!!!" to me......so maybe Lady Gaga's LoveGame, b/c who doesn't want to get up and dance when any of her songs come on??
15I agree with paperdoll in the UK and the rest of Europe 'When Love Takes Over' is huge. I Love it and it is such a Summery song!

16"When Love Takes Over" for sure!! That song is the hottest song I've heard in a while and yet it is NEVER played here. I hate US radio so much.

I live in the UK and "When Love Takes Over" is everywhere and I HATE it.
21Boom Boom Pow is pretty popular, but I think it should be "Bulletproof" by La Roux, it's my current obsession
oooh and "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga and "Waking Up In Vegas" by Katy Perry are GETTING really popular.

24The only song mentioned so far that I've actually heard of is the Kings Of Leon one. I should mention I don't listen to the radio and I have no idea what the popular songs are but the new Phoenix album with probably be my personal choice for my summer album of choice. I might pick the new Fiery Furnaces album too but I haven't heard it yet and don't even know if I consider it "summery".

27totally agree with 'i gotta feeling' by the BEPs but i really like meet me 'halfway', 'showdown' and 'now generation' also by the BEPs. and any of Lady Gaga's. the katy perrys are kinda old now.
