Robin Williams is bringing his comedy act back to HBO this Fall, taping his first stand-up special for the network in seven years and his fourth HBO special overall. He's just the latest comedian to book a special on HBO, which has long been a showcase for comedians including George Carlin, Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Dana Carvey, and many more. Comedy Central has also been a big outlet for stand-up over the years with its Comedy Central Presents series. I'm wondering: Do you like watching stand-up specials on TV? Does it depend on the comedian? Or do you think this kind of thing is best suited to live shows?

louis ck!!! i'll watch him do anything
1I love standup comedy and for the people I can't afford to see live or aren't coming near me, HBO specials are the next best thing.
2not really my thing. my husband watches sometimes and i think that i just don't have the sense of humor for it. the only one that i 1/2 enjoyed watching on TV was Dane Cook
3The first time I ever saw Kathy Griffin was doing standup on HBO and it was hilarious. It was MANY years ago, but it got me interested in her and I still find her to be very funny.
4It is not my thing, don't care for it. On a plane trip I did watch Ellen do standup and it was quite funny. But other than that nope.
5it does depend on the comedian, but i love to laugh. watched a couple on Netflix last night.
6i watch them late late at nights when there's nothing on and have been surprised by some good ones. recently saw paul mooney's stand up and it was brilliant. love chris rock and the best for me will always be the late george carlin.
