12 Great TV/Movie Performances by Musicians
Tonight marks Alanis Morissette's debut on
Weeds, playing
Nancy's empathetic obstetrician. Morissette got her start on TV (remember
You Can't Do That on Television?), but she hasn't done a ton of acting since. I've generally been a fan whenever she has appeared on screen, though, including as God in
Dogma. Morissette's
Weeds role got me thinking about other great on-screen performances from musicians, whether or not they're commonly considered strong actors. Read on for a dozen of my favorites.

Cher in "Silkwood", "Mask" and "Moonstruck"
Heavy D & Erykah Badu in "The Cider House Rules"
Still trying to think of more, but...Hmmm...what about actors who are surprisingly good singers? Any of those? Might take a bit longer to think about...
1ONJ as Sandy in Grease!
Bjork in Dancer in the Dark
Ice Cube in Boyz in da Hood and Friday...not crazy about him in those kids movies though
2Bon Jovi in Moonlight and Valentino
3What about the one and only Madonna? I know Swept Away and Body of Evidence sucked, but she was Evita (and in A League Of Their Own and Desperately Seeking Susan). My personal fave musiactress is Juliette Lewis - she's awesome! Or Milla Jovovich, didn't she have an album or two in the 90s?
4What about Prince in "Purple Rain"?
5or Eminem in 8 "Mile" or Cher in "The Witches of Eastwick"?
I also really thought Mos Def was great in Be Kind Rewind. Very funny.
6I'm kinda disappointed that Britney got a look in and Bjork didn't. Sure Britney was cute but Bjork gave a genuinely awesome performance in Dancer in the Dark
7I am the 1 and only person that enjoyed Crossroads!!
8I thought Queen Latifa was great in The Secret Lives of Bees
I just love a good slashie.
9Love Bowie in Labyrinth! Still. Had a huge crush growing up...
10also the horror movie made with Lordi.... was a pretty good movie
