It's only just July, but things are already heating up on the Gossip Girl set, as the show has just cast another new love interest for a major character. First came news of Joanna Garcia's guest role last week, and now it's Hilary Duff's turn.
Duff has been cast as Olivia Burke, a movie star who comes to NYU seeking a normal college experience and ends up as Vanessa's roommate. But that's not all: She also may start to date a certain main character. I won't spoil it here, but if you want to know who might be hooking up with Duff's Olivia come Fall, read more.
Well, you might have already guessed given who else will be attending NYU: Olivia's a potential love interest for one Dan Humphrey. Apparently, Lonely Boy takes a shine to Duff's character — and, unsurprisingly, has no idea she's famous, which fits into Olivia's "just a regular college girl" plans just fine.
But how serious will this relationship be? Duff has signed on for multiple episodes, starting with the one that airs Oct. 5, but there's no word on just how long she'll be in the picture. Does that mean she could be gossiping her way through NYC full-time? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

but Dan sucks and go figure that he's oblivious to her famous-ness....and vanessa...that means we have to see more of her on screen, since she has the hot new roommate.
5well i think that it's a good thing for her - she did start off as an actress and she's been in a few movies that seem to be along the lines of a teenager...so i don't mind the addition and i might even watch the show for her
6I think this is a terrible idea, frankly. Hillary Duff is absolutely NOT a good candidate to fit into the lives of these upper eastsiders. I can't even remember something she's actually acted in that wasn't intended for any one over the age of 12.

20I liked not knowing any of the actors much before watching the show, it doesn't need a "star." Plus, I wish they would work with the seven main characters they already have. Why not a Vanessa/Dan matchup or Nate/Serena? And I don't mean for 2 eps. I mean taking the whole season or half a season for them to get together instead of killing the storylines so quickly.

27Please no. It would be too painful to watch her on GG. I cringe whenever I flip channels and watch a glimpse of her acting. Can't the casting director find someone else, an unknown, struggling actress perhaps?
28Shes a great addition to the show. I have to say, her acting has improved over the years as i've witnessed her guest appear in Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer. And shes been working on her indie movie cred which is ALWAYS a good sign of someone working on their craft. And I love GG so im excited to see what the new season will bring!! Oh and by the way, to those who complain about her acting, paha! its not like the entire cast can completely act themselves. I mean its a good show but theyre not exactly the best actors.
29Unfortunately, I think Hilary only appeals to a certain audience demographic (I did media), which is NOT the GG audience. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how she does.
30I have to say that When I was a kid I used to really dislike Hilary I thought she was really annoying when she was younger but in recent years I started to like when her too goody good disney image started to disappear. Not sure if she is that great of an actress but please most of the cast of GG is really bad!

Gossip Girl creators should stop wasting money for useless guest stars and improve the storylines and personalities of the original ones (especially Dan, Vanessa and Jenny)
