It's not as good as a second season of Privileged would have been, but at least it's something: Joanna Garcia has booked a guest role on Gossip Girl as a love interest for one of the regular characters — supposedly Nate.
Garcia will play Bree Buckley, described as "an irreverent, slightly evil Miss America type" who comes from a conservative Southern family but is politically progressive herself. She's going to appear in four episodes, starting with the Sept. 14 season premiere.
I'm glad to see Garcia booking buzzworthy roles — but I also think she comes off as a little too smart to date the Nate we know. Bree sounds savvy, and I hope Nate has to work a little to win her over.
Since other details of the story are under wraps, let's speculate: How do you think they'll meet? And even though Nate's technically single right now, will this new romance spark any jealousy for Blair or Vanessa?

Sounds a bit like a redheaded Blair. Hope she sticks around for a multi-episode arch because I think GG starts and ends relationships too fast.
I think they'll meet at school. Nate's the one going to Columbia, right? If you had told me two characters were going Ivy League I would not have picked Nate and Serena.
1Its premiering on Sept.14th In North America anyways
2I think they will obviously meet at school. I always too Nate to be smart- not as smart as Dan but still smart.
3I think they would be a good match and really like Joanna and hope to see her stick around longer.
i love that she's got something. i really like her and i'm sad that her show is gone. maybe this will turn into something more. we can hope right?
4Please let the next season of GG be better than the one that just finished
5On the face of this, it doesn't seem like she'd fit in this type of show. But I really enjoy watching her, and already watch Gossip Girl (of course), so to me this is a win-win.
Maybe she'd be a TA that Nate meets or something? That would make sense to me.
6I love Joanna so I hope it works out, but I just can't see it... I know she isn't really any older than the people on the show, but her last few roles have made her older than them so that is what I see her as. So maybe she will be a young professor or something?
7Ooooh I love her! Stoked that she'll be on GG!
8geez, that nate sure does get around
9YAY! I love her as well--so so sad about privileged! I just bought the book Privileged was based off of (How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls) to read when I'm done with the bar exam...just because I couldn't get enough!
10"she comes off as a little too smart to date the Nate we know" - seriously Buzz?! I find this comment so strange, as if Blair, Vanessa, and Jenny are stupid characters?! I may not like Vanessa or Jenny, but they both seem pretty intelligent and Blair is very smart. I don't understand that comment at all.
11as for this news, what I find strange about this casting is that Joanna Garcia is such a bright, bubbly presence and for her to be put in this fairly dark drama seems like an out of body experience. the other thing I dislike is that Nate's score of dating every single girl on the show! is getting it be a bit ridiculous. they really need to pair him with someone and just leave it alone.
however, I do love her and I do think she has a lot of talent, so we'll see...
she's so gorgeous too...
12DO NOT WANT
13cant not wait!
14i can only see her as Reba's knocked up teenage daughter
15Cute! She was really sweet when I met her at Fashion Week and the show could use a ginger.
16I do not see Megan Smith as someone as an "irrelevant, slightly evil Miss America type", end quote
17interesting....there sure are a lot of new characters on this show...
