From the time it was first announced last year, everything about Amelia, the Amelia Earhart biopic, has sounded good to me: the subject matter, Mira Nair as the director, Hilary Swank in the title role. Today, the first trailer for the film is out, and it's only increasing my excitement.

Like all of director Nair's previous work (The Namesake, Monsoon Wedding), Amelia looks gorgeous and incredibly well-styled, from the sweeping landscapes to the kicky aviator goggles and scarves. It's been reported that the movie will focus on Earhart's early career, and maybe that's still the case, but this trailer looks largely at Earhart's plans to fly solo around the world and the famous, fateful outcome of the flight.
Swank plays Earhart with an appealing mix of determination and sass — exactly how I always imagined the pilot would be. We'll get to see the whole movie on Oct. 23, but to check out the trailer right now, just read more.

That looks really good. I'd go see it because I'm so fascinated by Amelia Earhart. But I wish they could have come up with a more creative name than just 'Amelia.'
1Hmmm, visually it looks stunning... the acting not so much. But Ewan is in it, and that's enough for me.
2Oooh it looks intriguing, especially since Ewan McGregor is in it! I usually can't stand Hilary Swank, but she is a good actress so I'll give this movie a shot.
3boring. If this chick would have just lived on and not disappeared she would not be so "fascinating" to people. I have to admit Hilarys ugliness fits Amelias well.
4well - i get why they are making a movie of her - i just don't know if i care all that much to see it. i feel like hilary sometimes tries too hard to find these 'serious' movies - when it's ok from time to time to just do something light and funny.
5I guess I will wait for it to come to TV. I cannot take Hilary's acting but love Mira's movies.
6ilanac13, she did P.S. I love you and we all know how that turned out.
7I am not a fan of Hilary either- not sure why. I also feel like you learn so much about Amelia in school that there is no point in watching it all on film.
8I like those movies that are based on true stories of people that did something extraordinary and you never heard about it! Those are the ones that grab my attention.
Hilary Swank has grown on me over the years, I quite like and yes this movie looks very beautiful (over course Mira Nair is a great director). I don't think Hilary is trying for a third Oscar, she is just drawn to these roles and she is a credible actress...what director or movie studio wouldn't want her to be a part of their project?
9This looks really good to me!! Hilary Swank is underrated. I think its because she does not stay in the tabloids. She's about to receive her 3rd Oscar with this one. I hope Mira Nair does too!
