Having read Jodi Picoult's novel My Sister's Keeper, I am going to see the movie this week fully prepared to leave with puffy eyes and a fistful of soggy tissues. But then again, what if I don't cry?
Have you ever anticipated crying at a "tearjerker" movie so much that you aren't moved at all? I had about six people tell me I would "bawl my eyes out" at A Walk to Remember, but that movie left me cold and most certainly dry-eyed. And a friend of mine told me that the first time she watched Beaches, it didn't affect her at all — perhaps because she'd had so many people assure her of her future weepy reaction to it.
Have you ever watched a supposed tearjerker and failed to see what all the fuss was about (literally)?

Cold Mountain. I was actually annoyed that it was so depressing.
1I know this is isn't exactly a tearjerker, but my sisters cried at the end of King Kong (the 2005 version with Naomi Watts) when he is killed. I did not have any reaction it...I guess I don't really get emotional over CGI gorillas.
2The Notebook. I just couldn't get into that movie and was really, really unmoved by the whole frame story with Alzheimer's. That bit was too hokey to muster up any feeling for.
On the other hand, I will cry about anything with a dog. Cue me weeping through most of Wendy and Lucy. And Bolt. Seriously, from the minute they picked out Bolt from the animal shelter, that movie had me teary-eyed. Iron Will? That ending wrecks me.
3I didn't cry at Titanic. Or Ghost.
But, like fireyelectra, I bawled through most of Wendy and Lucy as well.
4This isn't really a tearjerker, but I had no emotions when watching "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." I actually brought tissues with me to that movie because I cry really easily when watching a film, but Benjamin Button did nothing for me.
5I cried so hard when watching Titanic. But I was 11 when I saw it first, so, ya know.
A walk to remember didn't make me cry, nor did the notebook. I do remember a tear watching Beaches, I think.
6Definitely a long walk to remember. People definitely hyped that up too much for me to cry.
I find this with dramas and comedies. I hate when people repeatedly tell me I need to see this movie because it is so funny/sad/crazy. I usually end up feeling totally neutral in those movies.
7I think there are multiple movies I've seen that apparently make others weepy, but it didn't happen with me. I don't remember what they were though. I know I watched Beaches as a kid and didn't cry through that.
8I didn't cry watching A Walk to Remember but I cried when I read the book.
9titanic. it just didnt do it for me!
10Too numerous to name but a few are Steel Magnolia, AI, Field of Dreams, My Girl, and Beaches. I do not like sappy movies in general
11You know, the movie step mom made me cry.
I was told I would cry at Terms of Endearment, but I didn't.
12Walk to Remember was apparently supposed to be sad, but I didnt feel that way. No tears or anything.
Notebook, EVERYTIME
13Titanic - I was about 16 I suppose when it came out in theaters. It did nothing for me. But now I cry at a lot of things, even commercials.
14My mom and I got into such a fight because she was SOoOoo moved by The Notebook, and I thought it was just so formulaic and contrived. Mom & I were in a big group at a church retreat and she started flinging personal insults at me so I flipped her off. HA!
15The notebook...I watched the film with a group of girls in my dorm and everyone was in tears but me!
16The Notebook. Every girl I know thinks this movie is amazing. It makes me question girls in our society.
17The Notebook. I did not cry. I rolled my eyes.
18I didn't cry at Titanic.
19How could you not have cried during A Walk to Remember? I went into that movie with a bad attitude b/c I thought it sounded stupid and Mandy Moore was in it. But I bawled my eyes out!!!!
That said, The Notebook left me cold-hearted. Everyone around me was grabbing at the tissue box, but I just thought that movie was annoying.
20p.s. I'm so glad to read that other females felt the same way I did about The Notebook!! I'm not alone!
21ET: When it came out, everyone was moved over how touching it was ("I'll be riiiiight here.")
22Nope. Couldn't stand it. Shed not one tear. Still don't like it.
titanic didnt do it for me either...and i didnt even see the notebook because i read the book and thought that was really cheesy.
23I really can't think of a movie that I haven't cried at. I squalled during a Walk To Remember because I had just lost a friend to cancer... so it hit the heartstrings.
I cry at everything though. I even cry during that ASPCA commercial with the abused and abandoned animals... yeah, I'm weepy.
24I cried from the very beginning of A Walk To Remember till the very end. BUT, it was only b/c of the book. If I hadn't read the book, I don't think I would have cried b/c the movie was way
25oops...i tried to make the "less than" sign and say the movie was not even nearly as good as the book.
lesson learned
26LOL. Same here -- Titanic, The Notebook, Steel Magnolias, My Girl, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, etc. had no sentimental effect on me.
However, I did cry my eyes out over "Ghost." Go figure.
27Def A Walk To Remember. I just remember feeling annoyed I'd wasted two hours of my life watching a crap DVD and not even think of doing something else instead.
28The Notebook. Not only did I not cry, but to this day that movie and it's surrounding hype makes me a little stabby.
29Starangel - I cry at the ASPCA commercial too. Every single time. I have to change the channel.
30Marley and Me, and Titanic. Sorry, but how can you not know what's going to happen?
31See I was the opposite for A Walk to Remember--I went into thinking it was a comedy (I had not read the book, and the previews showed all the "funny" or high school scenes) Well I had NO idea it was going to be so sad, so I left sobbing! I was not prepared for it at all.
Same with The Family Stone, I thought it was a comedy as well (all the previews showed the funny scenes) and it was so depressing--def. took me off guard as well!!
I'm with a lot of those above about the Notebook-- I was not that moved the first time I saw it, but now I love it (I just really thought the ending was so terrible the first time!)
32tls! hahaha - "makes me a little stabby." that is hilarious
33Titanic. I refused to watch Marley and Me because my dog was dying when the movie came out so I couldn't tell you if I cried.
34hahaha, i think all of these made me cry. A walk to remember was just so terrible, i really only cried b/c of the book.
ANYTHING with a dog makes me cry....aspca commercials (i can't watch them either tlsgirl!!), lady and the tramp (when i thought Trusty was dying)....i refuse to watch Marley and Me b/c my childhood dog just died 2 wks ago!
35the dog DIES in Marley and Me?? WTF!!!! That's horrible and now I know I will NEVER watch that movie (even though I wasn't planning on it anyway). I'm with all of u who cry during the ASPCA ads.... I have to change the channel or leave the room.
36The Notebook didn't make me cry. I thought it was pure horse manure. The only redeeming quality to that crap fest was Ryan Gosling (HAAWWWTTT!).
Almost all movies make me cry though.... Even movies that aren't even sad. I mean c'mon, I cried in Cape Fear after the dog died.... I'm a big baby
The only movies I've cried at are Changeling, The Sea Inside, and The Fall..but I've cried watching tons of TV and reading books..
37I had a friend tell me I would cry in Stepmom because my parents are divorced and she felt like I could relate to the characters in the movie, but when I saw it, I sort of hated it and got more angry than sad.
38kea, in case you aren't kidding, the marley and me film takes place during many years. FYI: Dogs don't live as long as humans.
39The Notebook and Love Actually - overhyped and overly sappy. Also didn't care for Changeling, Ben Button, and Atonement.
40Walk to Remember was too cheesy to be a tearjerker...
41Steel Magnolias and The Notebook... And Titanic, though I do get a bit misty eyed.
42It takes a lot for me to be moved to tears for some reason. I'm not a cold person - I just have to be touched in the right way I suppose. The ASPCA commercial I can't even watch anymore I just turn the station and I have never owned a pet due to mom's allergies.
Offhand I cant think of any movis that made me cry - although the scene in Will Smith's "I Am Legend" when he has to strangle the dog...yeah I broke down. Otherwise it has been a while.
43I am a crybaby when it comes to movies no matter how many times I watch and its always on cue the same scenes.
44I really like The Notebook, but it never makes me cry...all my friends think I'm weird.
45I never really cried for The Notebook.
46I can't believe so many people were stoic during A Walk to Remember. I really like that movie (I don't think it's a masterpiece or anything but it's a cute chick flick) and I shed a tear a few times during that movie, especially when Landon cries and thanks his father for paying for Jamie's healthcare as "Dare you to Move" plays in the background.
I don't remember crying when I first saw Titanic or Ghost, but I would probably cry if I saw them now. I get emotional at commercials, movie trailers, etc. Depending on what is being advertised of course
47The Pursuit of Happyness - only thing weepy about that movie was the previews.
48The Notebook; I only cried a teensy bit and not at the ending even, but I think everyone telling me "OMG YOU'RE GOING TO DROWN YOURSELF IN TEARS" was a bit of a of an anticlimax. Also, Seven Pounds.
49Titanic, I actually laughed in parts I shouldn't have.
