Director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem For a Dream) may be going from working with Mickey Rourke to directing Natalie Portman in the supernatural thriller Black Swan. Portman's delicate frame is well-suited for this story set within the world of New York City ballet. Apparently those who have read the script claim it's a "spine-tingler" that's not unlike The Others "in which viewers are left to discern what's real and what's imagined." Here's more:
Swan centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it's unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.
Done well, I can see how this could be dark and chilling, and I'm pleased that it's a lady-led thriller. I wonder who will take on the role of Portman's rival dancer. Any thoughts on who could play this graceful — yet menacing — villain?

I hope Portman and her co-star learn have better training than the non-dancer actresses in Center Stage did. There's nothing worse than watching an actress with poor alignment, shoulders hunched up when her arms are en couronne and looking like she's going to break her ankle while standing on pointe play a "dancer."
That said, the plot sounds pretty cool. I wonder who they'll get for the dance sequences. I vote for Ashley Bouder from City Ballet as Portman's double!
1That's a bad photo of Natalie, but the plot looks great.
2it may be too obvious, but Summer Glau can definitely pull off the dancing roles and she's a great actress who i think can pull off the villain role, but with grace.
3plus it would be cool to see her snag some big screen roles after her great work in tv shows.
i remember reading somewhere that natalie portman regularly takes ballet classes as part of her fitness regimen, so i am excited to see her take on this role!
4I don't know how good of dancer she would be, but i would love to see natalie portman and keira knightley do something together and this sounds like it would be perfect. keira can be very chilling when she wants to be. i'd love to see her in a villain role.
5Mia Wasikowska would be a great choice for the rival dancer. looks interesting!
6no question: it should be Summer Glau
7This is exciting! I love dance movies, and it looks like this one will have some big names behind it. I can't wait!
8Sara Michelle Gellar???
9Sorry if this is a double post: I vote Keira Knightley as the rival dancer. And for their doubles to dance the sequences, I have to say Alina Cojocaru for Portman (very petite, dark haired, AMAZING dancer!) and Polina Semionova for the rival dancer. Two of the best female dancers in the world right now. What a dance off that would be!
10the concept sounds great actually - and i can't wait to hear who they cast opposite her. i feel like she has variety in her roles and that's a great thing for an actor.
11Mila Kunis got cast for the role! I actually think she'll do a great job.
