After the newest Will Ferrell movie, Land of the Lost, had a disappointing opening weekend at the box office last week, many in the world of movie punditry have been debating what went wrong. On paper, the movie seems to have a lot going for it: a major Hollywood star in the main role and a reportedly $200 million budget.

So why did it bomb so spectacularly? Some are arguing that Will Ferrell fatigue has set in and Americans are just not that into the comedian's shtick anymore.
But there could be other factors. Vulture points out the poorly executed marketing campaign, including an early preview of the movie that had some seriously junky-looking CGI. I myself wonder who was meant to see this movie. Kids? But with a PG-13 rating it's apparently too mature for the littler ones and it appears a bit too "young" for tweens.
So, can the Land of the Lost failure be pinned on Will Ferrell fatigue? Or something else?

Will is very hit or miss and this one looks like a major miss. I wish he would make more movies like Stranger Than Fiction.
1I can't stand him.
2I too think it was the target audience. I went to see it thinking it was a family movie, but there were some kinda adult jokes in it.
3Will. Ferrell. Sux.
4will ferrell is like jim carrey to me ... funny, but the joke gets old after a while.
5I can't stand Will Ferrell, but even if he wasn't in it, this movie looks lame.
6And Allyace, I agree that Stranger Than Fiction was great and he should do more films like it. I also liked him in Elf. Everything else he does is horrible.
7Land of the Lost, who watched the original series? People growing up in the early 70s. His usual brand of ridiculous appeals to younger people who go to movies they think are more "adult". Basically, it was bound to fail as a blockbuster.
8Yeah, it's Will Ferrell fatigue. It's ALL about the cast, nothing else matters. Certainly not the quality of the story. If Will Ferrell had played the Alan role in The Hangover, and Zac Glfifieetc. had played the lead role in Land Of The Lost, their results would have been reversed.
Sometimes people have a sense of quality, regardless of casting, and sometimes people can smell a stinker, regardless of stars and budget.
9Well... Will Ferrell isn't funny.
10I think it was a target audience problem...it didn't have one.
11i've never been a WF fan so i'm not going to say that it was his fault - but i will say that the idea for the movie just didn't do it for me. i'd rather not go to the movies then to go see it - and i know a lot of others that felt the same way. LOTL is just one of those shows that should not have been made into a movie
12Will has officially moved over into those actors that will do any movie if it makes them money. He needs to stop. Mike Myers was heading in that direction but pulled back possibly in time to have another hit.
13THe obvious is the only thing lost here...it was an aweful movie! IT was not funny, just vulgar and disgusting. I walked out and I told all of my friends with kids not to go and watch it...I'm sure other parents who saw the film felt the same way. F-bombs, groping, tea-bagging insinuations...total tasteless, especially when marketing to kids...PG-13 my azzzzzz
14Yeah as a Ferrell Fan I must say this movie didn't even appeal to me.
15Look at the bombs I make and idiots still go see them and I am not remotely funny anymore except when I am picking up transvestites.. will has worn thin now, how many nascar fans can there be.will's low brow humor has run its course.
16The movie was a piece of crap..It's that simple..it sucked. My 11 year old loves Will Ferrell and even he hated it. And it wasn't a family movie at all.I wasted 13 bucks
17Will Ferrell goes in the same catagory as Jack Black...Funny the first couple of times , but the schtick wears out fast.
18i love will ferrell and he has had a little down slope the last couple of movies but is still considered the funniest actor
