Within about 20 seconds of watching this trailer for Shutter Island, I had chills. By the time it was drawing to a scary, climactic close (and this is just the trailer, mind you) I was fully spooked. More than most frightening things, the idea of being trapped in an asylum (or a prison) as a presumably sane (or innocent) person disturbs me right to the bone.
Shutter Island takes place in 1954 when "U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels [Leonardo Dicaprio] is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston's Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. Teddy's shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals 'escape' in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything — his memory, his partner, even his own sanity."
The movie opens Oct. 2. To check out the eerie-looking trailer, read more.

Man, I love that Scorcese loves DiCaprio so much!
Totally creepy. One of those movies I'll want to see, but be freaked out to actually watch.
Wow that does look scary! Can't wait for this. This is based on the Dennis Lehane book shutter island. All his books that have been made into movies have been fantastic.
WOW! This looks FANTASTIC!
This movie looks amazing! Can't wait to see it!!!!
Holy scary!
looks fantastic. I think Leo 's acting just keeps getting better.
Cannot wait to see this!. Scorcese/DiCaprio are and awesome film pairing. I hope they continue working together
Looks really good.
doesn't look like a scorsese film, but it looks really good. leo can get an oscar nod for this one
I'd definitely watch it. I like it because it's not your typical "scary" movie with gore, ghosts, etc. And Ben Kingsly is cool, too. Very creepy in Transsiberian.
I'm seeing this one!
Mariana, I was thinking the same thing as I watched the trailer. I think it kind of "looks" like a Scorsese film visually, but it doesn't seem like the kind of "picture" he would make. Either way, it looks fantastic. I don't do scary, and this clip scares the be-jeesus out of me, but I think I'll make an exception for Leo/Marty.
Well Leonardo has been my boyfriend since Titanic so I kind of have to go see it or it will hurt his feelings.
Read the book, hope the movie is just as good. Definitely a lot of "what the heck is going on?" moments.
whoa awesome!
How come no mention of Mark Ruffalo?!?!!? I was so excited to see him in the trailer; for him, I'm in!
sounds pretty awesome
Can't wait for this to come out looks great!
I read the book too! I could be wrong but I don't think Michelle Williams plays the missing patient. I think she is a woman who Teddy had a relationship in the past and he has memories of her or something.
I'm sold!
This book was amazing (same writer as Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone). This film is going to be amazing, too.
Ah, you're right, JCP — thanks!!
 )
i wasn't too sure, read it a long time ago!
Looks good! I love Ben Kingsley and Leonardo DiCaprio is such an underrated actor.
The book by Dennis Lehanne is fantastic.
Oh man, this looks insanely good. Do I smell a book of the month?
wow all star cast. i like the idea of Leo and Michelle together. But why are Scorcese, DiCaprio and Ben Kingsley doing a thriller?
Awesoooome. I like that they're doing a thriller #27, something different
this looks amazing, i am definitely seeing it
This looks so good. I'm definitely going to see it but will probably be gripping my husband's hand the entire time! I want to read the book also. Should I read it before or after I see the movie? Most of this was filmed in Massachusetts. I love Leo; I should have gone to one of the filming sites when they were here. Haha, I tried to get onto the set when they were filming The Departed in Boston. Didn't work!
i CAN'T WAIT for this. typically i don't care too much for leo - i feel like he does a lot of the same 'depth' in his roles but i LOVE LOVE LOVE MW so i'll def make the effort to see this one.
I went and checked this book out from the library yesterday after seeing this preview here. Fantastic doesn't even cover it. I literally could not put it down until I was finished, and after I was finished I wanted to pick it up and read it again. I'm beyond excited for this movie now!
Oh. My. God. This looks amazing!!!!!!!!
Finally Leo gets a post for his amazing talent and not Lakers or crazy Israelis! No paps - just pure talent! Of course - we see this amazing movie!!!!
This was an awesome book!! I would highly recommend reading it. Can't wait to see the movie!
Excellent.
