In a turn that sounds an awful lot like the rebirth of Family Guy, the animated series Futurama is being resurrected on Comedy Central. Creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen are back on board for a whopping 26 new episodes of the series, which should start airing in 2010.
Since Fox canceled the series in 2003, it's lived on through four straight-to-DVD movies. Apparently, those movies — and the series' performance in reruns and on DVD — made Comedy Central think there was a market for some all-new Futurama. So now I'm wondering: is there? Or does this news just baffle you?

I never got that show
1Loved the show!
2I'm not a super fan, but I enjoy it from time to time
3I'm not sure about the timing, but I'm happy it is back.
4I loved this show, I still watch the reruns. It is a lot smarter than it ever got credit for.
i'm beyond thrilled. i've been waiting for this. definitely one of my favorite shows. and i agree with jinx. this show never got the credit it deserved.
"bite my shiny metal @ss!"
5Yay !! I agree with Jinx, this show is much smarter than most people think (remember the episode when Bender was god?). It's HIGHLY underrated!
6I love that episode runningesq! Love most of them
7love this show! I thought the first few seasons were just ok, but it got so so soooo good.
Every time I see Jurassic Bark, I am moved to tears. And I've seen that episode at least a dozen times
8I never really understood the appeal
9YAY!
10I am soooooooo excited! I love this show. We own all the seasons on DVD and watch it all the time!
11Leslie: I cry every damn time I've seen it. Every time.
12Me too -- Jurrasic Bark is so sad
I love the epi where Fry makes a deal with the robot devil for his hands so he can play that weird instrument for Lila, and then gives them back and plays it for her anyhow. so sweet.
AND, this:
Fry: 'No! Leela, that's what I must of done! I moved the stars themselves to write you a love note in the sky.
13I'm not a fan of the show, but come on - to compare it in any way to the worst show ever in the history of tv (yeah, that would be FG) is just unfair!
14SO stoked! Seriously! I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode several times, and every time I watch, I wish they'd bring it back. I agree that it has the 'smart' humor, but it also has the really funny toilet humor too. One of my favorite scenes is when Bender eats some of the potato chips with olestra in them and then literally poos bricks. Hysterical! (and no, I'm not actually 13).
15Bender: "I thought I saw a 2!"
Fry: "It's ok Bender, 2 doesn't exist!"
Other than a few odd episodes, easily one of the best comedies on TV.
16Yay and all that, but why isn't the press noting that the series ran in syndication from 2003 to 2008 (or so) on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim before Comedy Central picked it up and the four straight-to-DVD films?
17Here's hoping Futurama isn't another Family Guy.
I loved this show, but it seems like so long ago that it was on!
18YAY!!. I love the show and alaways hoped that it would get picked up for new episodes. I love the episode where Brannigan tries to take on the Neutral planet and when they rescue the Professor from the Old Folks Home
19So happy about this! Futarama is one of my favorite shows, it never should have been cancelled in the first place!
20I'm a huge fan of Futurama, and always have been. I was happy when they made the run of films after the fifth season, and I was happy that they gave it a good ending before running it into the ground. Now they're going to do to it what they did to The Simpsons and Family Guy, burn it out and squeeze every last penny from it's rotting corpse. I want to left with good memories of Futurama, not bad ones. I'm devastated that they're actually going to do this.
21I cannot express my excitement enough!
22I am possibly the biggest fan of the series ever, since I have watched all episodes over and over and over and over, if I'd come on a planet with a Melllvar-like type, I would definitely beat him in any quiz of Futurama =D
The show is really great, it has a real story, those characters are really "alive", unlike characters from other series, they seem to be too random too often.
Imho the best episodes are "Put Your Head on My Shoulder", "Parasites Lost", "The Luck of the Fryrish", "Time Keeps On Slippin', "A Pharaoh to Remember", "Godfellas", "Love and Rocket", "Jurassic Bark", "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles", "The Why of Fry", "The Sting", "The Farnsworth Parabox", "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings".
