Don't freak out — Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is still scheduled to open nationwide on July 14, but for two weeks the only option will be to see the movie on your normal movie screens (with the exception of two theaters: one in New York and one in Los Angeles). Starting July 29, the movie will be available on IMAX screens nationwide.
Why the delay? Apparently it's a result of "the decision by Warner Bros. to push Potter from its originally scheduled November 2008 opening. The new July opening overlaps with Imax's month-long window dedicated to Paramount's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." The delay has some analysts worried that ticket sales will suffer. But then again, the movie "contains 12 minutes of 3-D footage that moviegoers can experience only through IMAX," so there will probably be plenty of folks who go to the theaters twice: once on opening weekend and a second time to experience the movie in IMAX.
What do you think? Will you wait the two weeks for the IMAX experience? Or are you going to see Potter opening weekend no matter what?

I almost had a heart attack! There is no way I am waiting to see Harry Potter! My sister and I always, always go the day it opens and this year will be no different! I think I can live without the 12 minutes of 3-D footage.
1We're waiting 2 weeks anyway, we're going to see it at the dinner and a movie theater by my house for our anniversary. I don't really need to see it in IMAX though.
23-D IMAX makes me dizzy, so it doesn't really apply to me.
3opening night watching it in a regular theater, then i'll go see it in I-MAX when it comes out
4no way i'm waiting another 2 weeks or not seeing it in IMAX haha!
Don't you mean July 15, Buzz?
5i don't think that seeing it in IMAX is really worth the wait - so nope - i'll be seeing it when it comes out to the regular theaters
6I will see it in both. IMAX is totally worth seeing.
7I'll definitely be seeing it in both. I'm way too huge a HP geek lol.
8xlightningboltx — Hmm. Today's article about the IMAX delay that I link to in the post states "July 14," which I assumed meant there would be nighttime/midnight screenings that begin, technically, on the 14th, or something like that? Or it could just be a typo on the part of Hollywood Reporter.
9I kind of hate IMAX. I feel like I can never see the whole screen and then I think I'm missing something! I'll see Harry Potter on the traditional screen. Probably opening day.
10Oh hell no!
11You have to get to some IMAX theaters super early to make sure you get a seat really high in the theater so that you can see the movie properly. Otherwise it just hurts your neck.
Aaaanywho...I'll be there opening weekend. No way I'm waiting longer after waiting for months as it is.
12Haha. Yeah, I was thinking an option would be to see both, but I figure since lines will be so long, and I am too lazy to reserve tickets, I probably won't get tickets or good seats until 2 weeks after. But I refuse to talk to friends who see it before me lol and the trailers look really good. Love the Harry/Hermione scene.
13i was going to say that die hard HP fans will just go see it in both....

14if there's only 12 minutes of 3D then i doubt people would wait!!
these are people who queue round the block for a book at 1am cz they can't wait 6 hours to get it in normal time!!
The 12 minutes that was in 3D IMAX for the 5th one was awful, blurry, and made me feel dizzy. That being said, I'll probably see it again for the 3D anyway. Pisses me off that I'm working out of town for the summer because I wouldn't be affected otherwise since I'm sure it'll open in my closest IMAX theater in LA.
15I saw Batman in IMAX and every time the camera spun in circles around people I started feeling really dizzy. I spent a lot of the movie with my eyes closed so HP- no way!
16I'm not waiting anymore. I've waited to damn long as it is.
