If there were a literal music video version of this new, extended trailer for The CW's Vampire Diaries, I think half the captions would read "hot dudes stare hotly." Seriously, there are so many intense looks in this video that by the time the five minutes were up, Paul Wesley's eyes were burned into my brain. (I guess I'm starting to buy that whole "epicly beautiful" thing.)

When we're not staring deeply into Wesley's soul, we're learning more about Elena (Degrassi's Nina Dobrev) and the two vampires who will be battling for her heart and soul: Stefan (Wesley), who seems like a mopey puppydog of a vampire, and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), his smug, sarcastic, and more evil older brother. For me, the trailer picks up when Somerhalder arrives on the scene; I like his snappy comments, and the relationship between the two brothers looks like something I could get used to watching.
There are plenty of cheesy moments, but for whatever reason, I found myself oddly satisfied after watching this preview. Does it make you want to check out the series come Fall — or are you planning to skip it? To check out the video, just read more.

wow.. could they change more things about the books? this is only the first episode and they've changed the town name, the core characteristics of the girls, the history of the salvatore's... i am shocked.. the only saving grace appears to be how damn hot ian is.
1I read these books back in 1992 and just finished re-reading them at the beach. They were in serious need of updating. Everything about them screamed 1980s. I hope they don't completely ruin it though.
2I just read the four books to see what it was all about. They did change a lot, but I agree with NEGG, some of the plot needed updating. Not sure why they changed some of the backstory, though. And it seems like the brothers should be switched look-wise.
I'll give it a go this fall and see if it's worth my time. Even if the plot is different, there are super hot guys running all over that town!
3I've never read the books, and I was kind of hesitant about the idea of this, but the trailer actually was kind of appealing. I might have to check it out.
4i think that it's interesting that vampires are THE IT THING lately but i hope that this show does well for them. i like nina from degrassi so it's nice to see her in something else
5I'll probably watch it for lack of anything better to watch.
6I really hated this girl on Degrassi. I kinda liked the preview, but she's ruining for me.
7I read the books years ago, and it looks like they've changed A LOT. And a lot of the changes seem unnecessary. I will watch the pilot, though, and give it a chance. Ian Somerhalder is fantastic, I can't wait to see more of him as Damon.
8This looks good. I'm definitely going to watch this
9I'll probably tune in for a couple of episodes at least. I love the original books, despite their cheesiness, so it might be neat to see something done in their spirit. I'm kind of glad they're not doing it word-for-word from the books!
10Let's face it, I'll probably watch this. lol
11*cue the teenie-bopper squealing*
I used to LOVE all of LJ Smith books so I'm really excited about this. Kind of reminds of how they changed things for True Blood from the Charlaine Harris books. Despite the changes, it looks like it'll be really fun to watch. Can't wait!!
12This doesn't seem much like the books, but it looks intriguing (for television) nonetheless. I'll watch!
13Scream and Dawson's Creek- that about sums it up, really
Oh and this is ruining everything I learned about vampires from Buffy and the Lost Boys
14I want to see it, but I thought Ian was the good guy and I found him more attractive initially, but now I'm torn between both of them haha. Idk about Nina, I also didn't like her on Degrassi, or maybe it was just her character?? lol.
