This weekend the Fantastic Four sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, "flamed on" to take the top slot at the box office, raking in an impressive $57.4 million. This just beats the first Fantastic Four movie's opening weekend which brought in $56 million last year.
In second place was Ocean's Thirteen with $19 million while Knocked Up followed behind at No. 3 with $14 million. Captain Jack Sparrow and his buddies came in 4th place with $12 million, and family flicks Surf's Up and Shrek the Third took 5th and 6th places, respectively.
Nancy Drew opened in 7th place, unfortunately, bringing in just $7 million. At least she beat out Hostel: Part II, but still, it's disappointing that Nancy didn't draw in too many viewers. Perhaps the books were not adapted for screen very well. This weekend we'll see if Evan can be Almighty enough to get the No. 1 box office slot.

1the silver surfer was a terrible movie. honestly, i've never seen anything else with jessica alba, so my saying she's a terrible actress may not be a very informed opinion. but if it's any consolation, everybody else was right there with her. this is one of the worst movies i've ever seen. seriously.
2I saw the silver surfer this weekend and my expectations must have been low because I didn't think it was that bad...it's not going to win any oscars but I thought it was enjoyable for the 1 1/2 I was in the theatre. no better and no worse than a lot of these "Blockbusters". I wouldn't recommend paying full price though, Matinee definitely
3I liked the first one, which was critically panned, so I'll probably see this one. I don't expect this to be written like a Merchant-Ivory film, but I am looking forward to the cool effects. Although the Silver Surfer himself will have a ways to go in being cooler than the Sandman was in Spiderman 3. Those effects were mind-blowing.
4Please, Please Please Sugar, PLEASE have more posts on the yummy Chris Evans! He is so hot (ummm, put not intended) I can barely stand it.
5I thought this movie was pretty good, especially up against all the other summer sequels (I was disappointed by almost every movie I've seen in theaters so far this summer except for Knocked Up and Ocean's Thirteen). 6why did they feel the need to lighten up jessica alba for this movie? either that, or the makeup crew on f4 1 was much better. she looked awful in this movie.
