While I was searching for those "Big Love" back story clips last week, I came across a couple of hysterical fake commercials HBO produced to promote the show's second season. Like the commercials for cremation shakers and fake skin in the first episode of "Six Feet Under," these false ads promote products that would make your life as a polygamist better.
The first, for "Eau de Polygamie," promotes a fragrance that will let you "set yourself apart from all his other wives." It's funny, but I don't think it's nearly as good as the spot for "Polygarol," a Viagra-type pill that promises to make sure the man has energy to take care of all his wives on "their night." I love how it copies every convention of Viagra ads, right down to the guy throwing a football through a tire — only this time, it's three tires.
