Man! This one hurts a little. Twentieth Century Fox and Lakeshore Entertainment are planning a remake of the 1985 teen movie Girls Just Want to Have Fun. The film starred little baby-faced Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker as two teenage friends who love to dance and long to make their way — despite, of course, disapproving parents because parents just don't understand — onto their favorite show: Dance TV.
That part of the news is not too hard to swallow, since everything's being remade these days. '80s remakes, remakes, everywhere. But here's the kicker: according to Variety, "The comedy will be developed as a potential star vehicle for Miley Cyrus."
So, allow me to amend: this one hurts a lot. Miley Cyrus?! Really?

omg - i was almost excited for a second but miley? really? i think that i might just be a little sick! that RUINS the movie for me! SJP should really argue that one!
1I really don't understand the '80s revival fascination. Are people really nostalgic for that already? I know I'm not and probably never will be.
2I say: enough with the remakes. I love the 80's, but I think people should come up with original ideas.
3Oh ouch. Just ouch.
4Oh please God no. This is one of my fave 80s movies. Cheesy yes but NO MILEY.
5i love miley! not sure how she would be in a dance movie tho ...
6I'm so sick of all of these remakes. Can't anyone come up with an original idea anymore?! And its not just movies, its TV too. Kicking off good original programming to remake a new version of a show that went off air long ago and was obviously canceled or had run its course for a reason. Time for Hollywood to get some new ideas and stop recycling the old ones.
7I just cant stand these remakes..
8I dont think miley would be a bad choice though...
Enough with the remakes! Hollywood get some original ideas!
That is all.
9Merrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I'm so horrified I can't even form an actual word.
10I am tired of remakes and personally I wouldn't mind kicking Miley Cyrus in her teeth. This is just..... can't think of a word for it. Exasperation kinda fits here.
11Oh god no. This was the soundtrack of my youth, and I cannot imagine how you could top it.
12haha symphonee. my thoughts exactly.
13right, because we wouldn't want to taint the oscar worthy work in the original.
14NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Not Miley!
Young stars + Hollywood's lack of original creative thought are ruining my childhood memories!
15This one hurts but when they remake Breakfast Club I'm jumping off the earth.
16Noooo, Breakfast club would be a crime! lol
17oh god i loved this movie when i first saw it but Miley? Really r u f@#*%$ kidding me i hate her
18I'm so sick of remakes.I agree they should never make a breakfast club remake but what would really hurt me is if they make a princess bride remake.
19My eighth-grade self just died a little.
20I hope its not true
21My sisters and I love this movie, and my little niece just doesn't get our excitement at all. Well, she's 15 now and too cool for us.
22hooo,i love miley.i think she's the good choice
23is it bad that i totally don't remember this movie? i wonder if these ladies ever worked together thereafter
24Miley is an awesome choice. She is so talented and so cute. The original was far from being a classic (most people probably never even knew there was an original)...and what the hell was the first poster suggesting when she said SJP should fight it??? Is she stupid enough to think that the actors in a movie own the movie rights?
25So Miley will be in a remake of "Adventures in Babysitting" AND Girls Just want to Have Fun? What's next? Dorothty in "The Wizard of Oz" remake? Liesl Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" remake? good luck to her.
26I think Kherington Payne from last season's SYTYCD would be perfect. She is already in the remake of FAME!!
27My sisters and I just don't see Miley working for a remake of this movie. We loved the movie and I like Miley but it would definitely be a mistake. I would prefer no re-make but if they are, they should start considering someone else.
