This week's death of Don Herbert, better known as Mr. Wizard, got me thinking about all the great educational TV shows I watched as a kid, from "Square One" (Mathnet!) to "Reading Rainbow." Did you have a favorite?

Sesame Street!
1I really wanted to be one of those kids that sat next to Elmo/Grover/Harry/letter '_' and looked cute whilst saying something equally endearing.
Sesame Street, hands down!
2Reading Rainbow! I used to watch it every day in second grade.
3Fun poll. I went with Reading Rainbow because Levar Burton was on Star Trek, and well, I am geeksugar.
4Reading Rainbow overall, but I absolutely loved Mathnet, on Square One.
5School House Rock!! I think I still know the words to some of those!!
6Where's the Magic School Bus!!!! That was (haha still is) my favorite
)
7I loved sooo many of these....but my ultimate fave was prob Carmen Sandiago...cant tell you how many hours I spent playing the computer game!!! after watching the show daily of course
8I voted for Bill Nye the Science Guy. We watched that all the time in science class in fifth grade, and now that I'm "all grown up" (snicker) I watch Mythbusters like a crazy woman. I love learning stuff off the TV!
9Sesame Street. I loved Oscar the Grouch!
10RUJUGUJU: you read my mind. when i read the headline, i instantly thought of Magic School Bus. i love how the bus is always entering Arnold's body (i think that it's his name; the kid with red curly hair and freckles). i also loved their teacher.
Oh Buzz, you brought me back to my elementary days where i would turn on the TV to watch magic school bus as soon as i got home.
11I LOVED "Bill Nye!!" When I started watching the Food Network, Alton Brown's "Good Eats" quickly became my favorite show because I thought it was like "Bill Nye the Science Guy" for the foodie set!
I also loved "Reading Rainbow" and "Schoolhouse Rock."
And does anyone remember "Histeria?" Man, that was a good show, too!!
12Bill Nye RULES
13Oh my goodness, I couldn't just pick one. lol I ended up with 321 Contact, but I also liked Schoolhouse Rock and The Electric Company.
14i loved sesame street and reading rainbow!!
15Great poll, buzz! A tie for Sesame Street & 3-2-1 Contact for me--ahhh good times. I now have the 321 contact song in my head and am missing the Bloodhound Gang.
16Sesame Street By Far! Wait, it was educational? I was totally duped by my parents!
17Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. Partly because I was more addicted to the game than I was Oregon Trail and that game where you choose a fish and eat things. But, mainly because Carmen San Diego may have been one of my most prominent childhood crushes!
18School House Rock.
19I know it's not really educational, but I also loved Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. That, Sesame Street, and Reading Rainbow were my favorites.
And I also loved Levar Burton on TNG. I guess I'm a geek too.
20WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SAN DIEGO!!!!!!!!
although I also really like Magic School Bus
21Square One TV!!!! I loved that show. Mathnet was awesome. I also had total love for 3-2-1 Contact and who didn't love Reading Rainbow.
22i personally didn't pick any of them, i liked WISHBONE, once i saw the book they were re-creating with Wishbone [the dog] as a character, I ran out and checked the book out from the library.
23seaseme street- ive got all the books!! and even got stuffed Burt and Ernie
24i LOVED reading rainbow! "take a look, it's in a book"
25but i never really got into sesame street. i just remember thinking "these puppets are silly!" i think it was all of big bird's whining.
I voted for Carmen Sandiego but I also loved Sesame Street and Bill Nye.
26the magic bus!!
27Mr Wizard's World and also a show called Braingames that came on HBO in the early 80's.
28This IS a great poll! Oh my gosh, I couldn't pick just one! I loved School House Rock and 3-2-1 Contact so much! Does anyone remember that show Pinwheel? The theme song was like "Pinwheel pinwheel spinning around, look at my pinwheel and see what I've found..." The theme song is the only thing I REALLY remember about the show (and ONE episode of a muppet-like worm singing the rain rain go away song, which is a really random and specific memory). Anywho, just wondering if anyone remembers it. I think the shows you pick kind of show the age generation everyone is in, because I don't remember some of the shows! :/
29What an awesome poll, Buzz. I loved lots of the shows you named, but ultimately I voted "other" because my favorite was Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. Every now and then when I need a reminder of what my priorities ought to be, I'll watch a youtube clip of his show (or his AMAZING testimony before Congress on the importance of children's educational t.v.). To this day, he remains one of my heroes.
30Oh my God definitely Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow (I can still remember the song from it-butterflies in the sky...I'm a dork), Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (I remember that song too with the a capella group)and Mr. Wizard (RIP Mr. Wizard).
31Sesame Street for me!
32Um, how can I pick ONE?!?!?! I loved Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, Bill Nye, and Carmen Sandiego ... PBS had THE best shows for kids back in the day!
33THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS!
34Reading Rainbow! I loved that show. I too also spent countless hours playing Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? I always hated Magic School Bus. though.
35What about the Magic Schoolbus!?
I loved that show, even though I'm in Oz!
36Reading Rainbow!
37This is great...you can kind of gauge how old everyone is by the answer they give! I was always all about the 3-2-1 Contact. I was actually just schooling my 9 year old on that and Square One this weekend. Not to pass on either of those two GEMS, but why leave out my boy Ben and the Voyage of the Mimi?!
(Hey - who knows which show the Palindrome song is from? Is that Square one? The one that goes "It goes frontwards, it goes backwards, it's a...Palindrome!" I can't remember where that's from for the life of me!)
38Love them ALL, but Sesame Street had to be number 1.
39It was hard to choose just one!
40Man, that was hard! 3-2-1 contact, Reading Rainbow, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, Square One, Mr. Wizard!! They were all my favorite. I was such a geek!
41Mine was.....SLIM GOODBODY.The dude had a white mans afro and wore a body suit that showed all his innards. He talked about nutrition, exercise, how your body works......i loved it. But now i am showing my age.
42Great Space Coaster
43How about The Magic Garden?
44There was a show called Ghostwriter. That was preety damn cool
