As an entertainment addict I try to remain open to all things related to music, movies, theater, television, books, etc., but I know many people who claim that they simply do not like whole categories of entertainment. Most likely you know someone who has made declarations like, "I just don't like country music." Or you know a guy who will never, no matter what, go with you to see a romantic comedy.

I sometimes have a hard time with scary movies, but I can't say that I'll never watch one. My boyfriend used to swear up and down that he hates musicals, but then he came along with me to see Avenue Q, which is mostly puppets singing dirty songs with swear words. He changed his tune after that.
So what say you? Are there certain genres you've never liked and don't think you ever will?

I've made the comment about scary movies and country music! I make exceptions for some country songs that I feel are less "twangy" but over all I'm just not a fan. And I'm too big a whimp for scary movies. My husband swears he will never watch Sci-Fi, but he loves LOST so I think I'm breaking him.
1yep. i never, ever watch horror movies!
2Same here about scary movies.
3I used to swear some off, but as I've gotten older, I'm more open to them. Rap, for instance, can sometimes be great while working out. I thought I hated Sci-Fi until my husband introduced me to Star Trek!
4video games. guitar hero; stupidest thing ever invented
xbox; total waste of money. who would pay that amount for something that seems to need to be upgraded every year at chriatmas CHA-CHING!
5No slasher films for me

No matter how you feel about them, video games are actually a really good value. The cost of entertainment per hour is VERY low compared to a lot of other activities. New generations of consoles come out every five years (not every Christmas), and individual games have AT least ten hours of gameplay and usually have a lot more.
As for me, I hate books on tape and country music.
7I loathe musical theatre. I've given it more than enough chances, and I hate every second of it. It's awful.
8HATE scary, gore movies. And I really tend to stay away from religious music...it just really turns me off for some reason. Probably because the infomercials are annoying.
9Can't stand sci-fi anything. And no death/black metal for me or bluegrass.
10I have never watched reality shows and never will.
11Scary movies I don't watch at all, and I generally avoid romantic comedies and rap music
12Overly-wrought dramas that take themselves too seriously. And country.
13I love horror movies, slasher pics, thrillers, anything that gets my pulse moving. I like rap, but I LOVE hip hop (yeah, there's a diff) I can usually find something in any genre that I like, except for contemp. christian music and first person shooters.
14I avoid anything scary, gory, sinister (music, movies, etc.)
15I never say never. I don't like country music but I do find an exception in a country song once in a while, the same for rap. Don't like it but once in a while I do find one that I love. I would limit myself in life if I said I wasn't open to something.
16Does 'reality' TV count because if it does, I don't watch that junk, any of it. And rap, just don't consider it real music. On the other hand I just love scary/horror/thriller movies, the scarier/freakier the better.
17I do not like country music and I never watch reality tv, except for AI (I'm a masochist) and So You Think You Can Dance, which in my opinion is not a typical reality show.
18Musicwise... I can't handle the really heavy death metal where you can't even understand where they're "singing" because it's so gutteral and deep. And I hate "pop punk" like Blink 182.
As far as movies go... Not a fan of the super cheesy comedies, like ones with Jim Carrey or Will Farrell or the multitude of American Pie sequels or Scary Movie sequels, etc etc.
I am especially picky with television... I'm reluctant to watch anything on ABC/CBS, because I have had VERY little luck with any of their programming. Or any cop/medical/law television shows, just because ... god, ENOUGH! (I will make exceptions for any that are particularly good or acclaimed though.)
19I wouldn't swear off any entire genre. I don't watch a ton of scary movies or listen to much metal, but I wouldn't want to miss out on something great by just writing off an entire genre altogether.
On a side note, I know so many people who claim to loathe country music, but then say Carrie Underwood is one of their favorite musicians. It makes me laugh.
20Death Metal, Folk, and trance music- I usually cringe at them before turning them off. I really just hate BAD, half a$$ed music regardless of the genre. I will listen to anything once, though.
I really don't care for overly sentimental movies. They irritate me
21I haaaaaaaaaaate musicals. And while I love scary movies, I don't let myself watch them most of the time because I get too freaked out.
22And really loud metal-type music.
23I've sworn off some music genres, mostly rap...
24i dont watch scary movies. what can possibly be enjoyable about scaring urself sh*tless????
25I don't see comedies or romantic comedies or anything other than dark movies/tv because I honestly feel comedies are pointless.
Also, I will not listen to country.
26i don't watch horror movies or reality shows about anything that is not associated with design and beauty.
27and I hate all techno that came out after The Prodigy
