It would be an understatement indeed to say that we haven't seen Sherlock Holmes quite like this before. As this new trailer shows, Guy Ritchie's big screen Holmes story is full of action, violence, and good-looking people. There are quippy lines a-plenty (it is Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role and Guy Ritchie in the director's chair, after all) and elements of silliness — all of which rounds out to be quite a funny and heart-poundingly tense mystery.
As you'll see in the preview, this Holmes is more of a roguish fighter than a contemplative guy chewing on his pipe. Together with his partner Watson (Jude Law), the detective engages "in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England." Sherlock Holmes opens Dec. 25. Darn, can't see it!
1i can't wait until the movie comes out...it's so frustrating to see trailers now and then have to wait more than 6 months!
2Here is another link to a trailer

can't wait to see this!
4I had no idea Mark Strong was in this. He's great!
Also, isn't that Eddie Marsan
from "Happy-Go-Lucky" at about 0:50? Great to see him in a big production like this.
It's a little strange to see such a different Sherlock Holmes, but the trailer definitely looks good.
5I'm excited!
6My favorite literary character with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law? Who could ask for a better Christmas Gift?!?
7They gave away too much in this trailer.
8I second that Countess.
9yay, i'm excited for this!
10It looks so good! RDJ and Jude Law were perfect choices.
11i wasn't so sure about this movie but the trailer looks awesome! i think i like the new take on sherlock holmes.
12This looks good. I've been looking forward to it for a while already...*sigh* and December 25 is so far away. But I know where I'll be that night!
13*blows kisses at Jude*
Ooh I agree also Countess!
14I can't wait! Action, comedy, and drama? Looks awesome.
15I'm sorry, but though it might be an entertaining movie...that's NOT Sherlock Holmes. I was skeptical about Guy Ritchie's bare-knuckle boxing version of the detective, and it looks just as ridiculous as I feared. I'll stay at home and watch the Jeremy Brett DVDs, thanks.
16this is going to be awesome
17I can't wait! I love the silliness and the action. I was hoping it'd be out sooner though
Also, Rachel McAdams looks so good in that outfit! Makes me feel better about my thighs.
18Oh my gosh, this looks incredible! I can't wait.
19it looks like it should never have been made!!! any reader of watson would find this nothing more then tripe. to start ...at witch point did holmes have anything to do with woamen outside of adler, when did
20a cocaine addict look fat "rdj". this being only a small list that anyone saying "holmes is my favorite" should consider before ever going to see this film

I was rather ambivalent about this movie at first, but now I can't wait to watch it. RDJ is a very different Holmes to be sure but the movie looks very entertaining and that last quip at the end of the trailer was gold.
21are the majority of you brain dead?. i am willing to bet this version of holmes will not get anywhere close to depicting any stories out of the original canon. if anybody wants to see real acting from an actor who was fully dedicated to the role, a real "becomer" watch granadas sherlock holmes series with jeremy brett. jeremy brett will forever be the definitive sherlock holmes. he was the best and will forever eclipse any further (futile) attempts at the role. long live JB.
22Jeez, people, chill.
Nothing is right or wrong here. You have a preference for the "standard" Holmes based on the books....to each his own. For me, it is just a movie and there to entertain me...I am not passing literary judgment on it. Good Lord.
RDJ rocks..cannot wait to see this. Will hold me over until Iron Man 2 comes out in 2010!
23To all the skeptical: First of all, I'd like to know when a Robert Downey Jr performance has EVER disappointed in his 25-year career. That said, I have read all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books, and this version is being faithful to many things the film performances were not. Among many other things, Irene is the only woman to have ever gotten underneath Sherlock's skin (so to speak!); he was a practiced martial arts expert and an accomplished musician with a brilliant mind. RDJ is all of these things. As for being "fat"-ha! He weighed 165 lbs of pure muscle from martial arts workouts, strength training and an almost completely vegetarian diet during filming and was in perfect physical shape for Sherlock as can be seen in the many promos (let's leave the cocaine addict reference alone--it's obvious). Anyway, I had my rant. RDJ will be a marvelous, edgy, brilliant Sherlock, and this movie is going to rock!
24I can't wait to see the movie, I have been waitng a very long time for this movie to come out. I also, agree with Jude that their are many more stories to tell. If we are lucky we will see sequels. I saw the trailer and loved it.
