The film adaptation of Dan Brown's bestselling novel, Angels and Demons starring Tom Hanks, is a global sensation after earning an estimated $104.3 million at the international box office over the weekend.
Here in the US the holy thriller swiped the top spot from Star Trek, which still performed strongly, coming in at No. 2 with an estimated $43 million domestically. According to Variety, positive word-of-mouth thanks to stellar reviews is probably the reason Star Trek continues to be quite the box office powerhouse.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, and Obsessed rounded out the rest of the box office top five coming in third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

star trek is very good indeed! i was positively surprised.
1I loved Star Trek.
Dan Brown is a horrid author -- he's lucky Hollywood took his books and made somewhat decent scripts out of them. I actually expected more from the Da Vinci Code, but ended up falling asleep in the theatre. I'm probably going to see Angels & Demons though -- I've been told it's a better story, and I love Tom Hanks
2I liked Angels and Demons, thought it was fun and makes me want to go to Rome haha. I love tom hanks too!
3Just saw angels and demons and Star Trek yesterday! both great!!!
4I saw both over the weekend. Star Trek was great! Loved the interactions between Kirk and Spock. Angels and Demons was decent, a little slow at times.
5Never saw The Da Vinci Code, but if Angels and Demons was the "better" movie, then DVC must have been pretty terrible because A&D was awful.
6I really liked Angels and Demons. I liked the book better, but that's usually how it goes. I'm a big Dan Brown fan.
7i went to see star trek this weekend, and definitely loved the interactions between kirk and spock.... not to mention zachary quinto as spock was awesome!
8LOL!! Why didn't you mention Jen's film buzzsugar?Maybe because it is tooooooooooooooo embarrassingly flopping?
