Now that the fifth season of Lost is officially over and we're coming down from the excitement of this week's finale, I've been thinking about how this season's final scene (code-named "The Fork in the Outlet") stacks up against the four that came before it. There's an especially crazy/intense/surprising final scene each season, and each of these final scenes has a specific code name. Which season do you think has had the best?
To refresh your memory on what each final scene entailed (obviously there are spoilers ahead if you have not seen these finales) and talk about your favorites, read more.
To jog my memory, I looked up the synopses of the final scenes over at Lostpedia.
Season One: Code-named "The Bagel," this final scene shows Walt being abducted by Tom and the Others.
Season Two: Code-named "The Challah," this scene has "Henrik and Mathias in the listening station, at a desolate, snow-blanketed location. Upon receiving a computer notification of the detection of some sort of electromagnetic anomaly, they phoned Penelope Widmore to tell her that they had 'found it.'"
Season Three: Code-named "The Rattlesnake in the Mailbox" (or just "The Snake in the Mailbox"), we see a drunk and depressed (and bearded) Jack meeting with Kate and telling her that they have to go back to the Island. This is also the scene in which Kate mentions something about "him" wondering where she is (this turns out to be Aaron, but we didn't know that at the time!). And the scene reveals, "that the episode's flashes have actually been flash-forwards, as opposed to flashbacks."
Season Four: Code-named "The Frozen Donkey Wheel," this scene shows that the body in the coffin is Locke's.
Season Five: Code-named (by a fan) "The Fork in the Outlet," this final scene features a desperate Juliet using a rock to repeatedly beat (eight times) the core of the hydrogen bomb until it presumably detonates and the screen goes to white.
I think my fave was the one from season two ("The Challah"). I do believe I was shrieking at the time.

Season Four to me was the best, because Ben is my favorite.
1I think I liked season 3 finale, showing them off the island, being flash-forwards.
2although season 2 and 3 finals are both greatttt, i'll say season 3 final was the most shocking one
3how can you choooooose?!!?!!? I liked 2 and 3 best I think. I thought one of the seasons ended with the light coming on in the hatch? Or am I completely remembering wrong? I remember THAT scene I was like screaming haha

5Season 3 for sure. I still get chills whenever I hear Jack yelling, "We have to go back!"
That moment when you realize it's in the future and they got off the island was intense.
6Season 3! No one even thought that was a possibility!
7Season 1 for me! That was the first time we ever really saw the Others. I freaked. Also, notably--those episodes contained Sawyer telling Jack he had met his father, Jin, Michael, Sawyer, and Walt sailing off, and Locke blowing the hatch. Awesome!
8Season 3!...but Season 5 is a close second.

11Definitely Season 3 because you realized they got off the island and you were watching a flash forward of Jack the whole episode! crazy...
12Dang. Season 1 was such a surprise — that Walt would be kidnapped by these mysterious hostile characters that I have a soft spot for it; the most recent one was great, I thought, but the most shocking was probably Season 3, when we see them off the island.

14To be honest each one of season finales have been shocking and always left us with this... you know eager and desperate for the next season to see what's going on... Walt's abduction, penny being informed, Jack screaming, John death but 5Th season finale I truly believe was the most shocking... we saw a sawyer desperately holding Juliet, we felt his feelings meanwhile Ben's killing Jacob then Juliet's beating the bomb and then.... you know what I mean!!
15I think season 1 ended just right after they had blown up the hatch door and Jack and John were looking down into thw darkness. I could be wrong ofcourse but I'm pretty certain that I'm not.
My favorite is probably this season's. I mean we really have no idea where it goes from now. Who's dead? Is anyone dead? Right now noone can think nothing about it. And I don't know if you saw the first official season 6 teaser. It really makes it even more confusing (if that is really possible!). This time around it's "destiny found" and it ends with what is probably Jack's eyeshot - as in: the first scene of the show.
163, but 2 is a close, close second. between michael shooting anna lucia and desmond turning the failsafe key, it was a crazy season!
17Each season had a major shock factor, that escalated to an extreme within the last few minutes. If I had to pick I would probably say season 3. The fact that they were off the island, and we didn't know who or how. And Jack yelling "we have to go back"... Amazing.

19I don't think I could pick. I love this show so much and they do a finale like no other show. I can't wait for it to come back. It's going to be a long 8 months.
20Season four shocked me so badly. Then again, i didn't get to see the lost season 3 finale whe it first came out and i had the plot ruined...

22Season 1's finale...I thought they looked down the hatch in the final scene?? I remember being so curious as to what the hatch contained!
Season 1 was just overall the best season, in my opinion.
23Season 3 for sure. It set the show on a completely new path.
24Season 3 was a COMPLETE shock, which probably makes it my favourite.
Season 5 comes at second, as long as Sayid dies and Juliet doesn't... =P
25Season Three is my fave followed by the recent Season 5,
26Season 3 finale stands out for me because it was the first full season of Lost that I watched and the flashfowards surprised me so much as I didn't think they could do that, but I loved it.
sorry but season 1 ended with them looking down in the hatch. this was the best for me, because i was screaming and jumping around at the tv.
also season 3. because everyone was like WTF the next day.
27I loved season three's finale. I actually had already read that it was a flashforward, but i forgot until I saw it was Kate, which rocked. Season Five and One were awesome as well. I liked Two and Four but not as much as those. Lost does finales better than anyone else.
